@@nvl2691 and Mike B. I agree, but I want to preserve this one. - 2 years later, DINAN stage 2 tuning, now at 58 K miles, B8's in front, all new upper control arms all around and whisper quiet/even with the Dinan axle back muffler. The Getrag 6 speed is notchy when cold but I always give the machine 15 minutes or more to warm up before I tickle the GO pedal. Captain Brown Beard, Years ago I had a 91, 535i 5-speed that had a bad rear end. I found out that not only suspension parts interchanged from the 740i’s but so did differentials. I found one from a Euro 750i not iL that was a 3.73:1 with limited slip unit for only $400.00! I got it installed and OMG! The original diff gears were 3.46:1 so I figured no problems right? What I got was a tire smoking beast. Dump the clutch at 3K and hang on! You had to grab a gear every time you blinked your eye. It reminded me of a 67 Vette I had with the close ratio M-22 Muncie 4-speed and 4.11:1 gears. Between blowing the diff and installing the new one I had rebuilt the engine with a Shrick reworked head with oversized ales, new springs and a cam set up for road racing! A new balanced assembly, Hooker custom tube headers, 3 into one true split duals, 3” custom piping, new cats for an 850 CSI and a pair of replica Corsair turbo charged mufflers from the 60’s. We’re talking Zero Restriction! I had a custom 3” diameter “X” pipe installed in behind the collectors to balance out the exhaust pulses. Custom over the rear axle pipes were installed and I had stock looking exhaust tips installed. After getting the fuel injection sorted out for better flowI had it dyno’d. 341hp at the rear wheels! The 5-speed was from a Euro M-6 and was the dogleg version with 5th gear being direct 1:1 drive! After a 2,500 mile break-in period I put it through its paces. 0-60 was 4.4 seconds, the quarter mile was 13.1@ 111mph! Absolute top speed at 7,000 rpm redline was 149mph! That’s all it takes to make a monster out of a lowly E-34 535i.
The fuck are you talking about? M60's are built like a tank. They have an extremly long lifespan and no they will not implode just by free revving them 🤦
maccaveli, I tell you what young fella, you just keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll not only blow the head gaskets but you’ll wipe the Babbitt layer off of your rod and main bearings. Mechanics love guys like you they keep him busy and wealthy. There’s a young guy in my subdivision that likes free revving his E39 540i as well as drifting it. He’s on his 3rd rebuild. His father came over and asked me to educate him about BMW abuse. I’ve had 7 bummers over the last 25 years including 2 M5’s, 2 M3’s and a Euro M6. When you pay for your own repairs long enough you may wise up. All those popping sounds you hear at the high RPM’s is valve float.
First one sounds the best!! Amazing work on the exhaust!
agreed🤣👌👍👍
10X First one is mine :)
I listen to this very often
3 inch piping from the headers sounds amazing .. just ask me how I know 😂
Have to buy one of these!!

e34 is better

How come bro??
Jayden S Gray because the e34 is better
@@THEBOSS7223 Nothing bad on the E39 but the E34 is really something special
Jayden S Gray Just more classicitude ;)
Does every 540i sound like this ? And does every 540i do have v8?
If so, im totally getting one!
Julian yeah, thats why im asking
Yeah 540i is always a 4 liter V8. The sound is always similar, depends on the exhaust setup.
Makedeth oh damn
xthiccBASSツ 530 3.0 v8 540 4.0 v8 both sound the same but they only sound good with true dual any 2-1 tends to make it sound more ls like
Please do one for the E34 535i
thank you mate for this video
If the E34 M5 had this engine too (which would be titled “S60”), then that would be the first M5 to have a V8, and not the E39.
A good sounding compilation of used BMW 540i's that you shouldn't buy now.
More reliable than anything from e60 and onwards though, friend.

Free revving an M60 or drifting like you see in this video WILL be abusing it and dramatically shorten its life expectancy!
I just cruise in mine with a muffler delete. They too slow by todays standards to be showing off.

you are right my friend. M60 is a good engine, but free revving is deadly for every combustion engine. They have to pay the bill....
