    Hearing Smoky actually was pretty cheerful for me, he sounds so happy to be a bird! Also, I've been really wanting to try brocade, so I'm super glad you did this video for us - thanks a billion!

    Oh how I feel the somewhat exhausted disbelieving "oh, it's February". Hi sweet Smokey!

    Hooray! You’re back! And so is the irreplaceable Smokey, singing the songs of his people! It’s wonderful to see the process of brocading, although I feel a little exhausted just from watching. With this wonderful video, though, I know I can plug along, stopping and starting, and make my may through it. What a splendid teacher you are!

    I'm glad you're back! I hope everyone is doing well and that it isn't too cold where you are.
    I got my PADI certificate in Costa Rica and then never dove again. I lived very close to Lake Ontario for a while, and although the Great Lakes are said to have the best shipwreck diving in the world, I knew that kind of thing to be beyond my skill level. And it was cold. Very, very cold. Besides, now I embroider, knit, sew, crochet and (thanks to you) weave so I really don't need another hobby that might cut into my budget for fibres and materials!

    Yay, you're back! I'm terrified of fish, so scuba/snorkeling seemed beyond me, but then we planned a dream trip to the Galapagos and I had to try snorkeling. Sea turtle with shells bigger than me! Amazing.

    🤩 I do like this technique! I may try it out with a burgundy ground and a rose gold metallic thread. My ears hurt way too much for diving. I am so glad to know you are well and enjoy your videos so much. Thank you!

    Looped band around tensioner is a brilliant solution to keep warp thread out of the groove.

    This is best instructional video on brocade tablet weaving I have found... you were clear and concise. I struggle so much with following patterns on turning forward and back in the right place. And if you mess one row up it's totalled and going back is a pain. I feel like brocade style is more of me because you manually plug in the design instead of hoping and relying on the cards to do the work. I love the idea of a solid base and working a pattern on top

    This is just fascinating! I’ve been making Monk’s Belt bands for the last while and this strikes me as the same pickup technique only using the cards rather than strings as heddles. 🤔 Wonder if my patterns can be translated to this technique…looks like I have some playing around in my future!
    Glad to see you back and hope everyone is well ❤

    I enjoyed watching the brocade process and seeing you do it makes it approachable for me. When I was learning embroidery, specifically the satin stitch, my teacher has us separate the strands of floss and allow the twist to relax. Then we put the strands “back together” so when we did the satin stitches the strands of floss laid next to each other and achieved better coverage. I wonder if you separated the floss strands before winding the shuttle if the pattern would have more coverage. Just a thought.

    • @elewysoffinchingefeld3066
      @elewysoffinchingefeld3066  ปีที่แล้ว

      I separated them, wound it on a shuttle and unwound it, put them back together....they had mostly untwisted by then, but you're right--it would look better to have them all lay parallel rather than twisted!

    What a beautiful weave. I know I’ll give this a go but dexterity is not really my top skill (I keep working on it). Hello Smokey! He’s a happy bird not noisy! My eldest’s next trip will be to the Maldives (hopefully) to catch up with an old uni friend. I’ve never scuba dived but snorkelling on Lord Howe Island was amazing.

    Love your videos! Question- why do a 180* turn when changing directions? Does it give less of a visual that you have changed direction? Thanks!

    Lady Elewys, really pretty pattern! What is that wonderful background music? I don't mean the skwawking bird, but the lute, or harp, or whatever instrument it is.

    Mine is all spaced out between each pick, my weaving thread is it's own row visually, and then the brocade on above it and not on top why is that??

    I am curious if it is really necessary to always turn the cards the same direction or if there is a way to make this a more twist neutral design?

    • @elewysoffinchingefeld3066
      @elewysoffinchingefeld3066  ปีที่แล้ว

      With brocade, you turn in one direction until it's over-twisted, then either flip the cards or reverse the turns in the other direction until it's over-twisted again.

    Thank you very much for showing so clearly how brocade-weaving works !!!
    Somehow I have the impression, that Sari-Borders are made the same way, but with silk.
    I'll have a closer look, when I find the ones I bought years ago. 🙂

    So, if you wanted, say, to use this technique to brocade words, say a line of a poem, along a band, you would be able to just treat it as one immensely long pattern that never repeats, I guess.

    good to see this as I have a load of GTT files. I don't use GTT but I do use TDD, can you design these on TDD (I'm slowly trying to convert the GTT to TDD) and I just found a load of brocade GTT files (also Doublefaced, Egyptian Diagonals, Fonts, Threaded in and Twist Patterned. converting them all is VERY slow going.)
    OH and the link to the pattern does not work, says it found nothing. - just thought you should know

    So a question…🤔🤔
    Could you theoretically do a double faced brocade design using a “triple shed”?
    I’ve noticed most the time when a brocade is applied, it only utilizes the upper portion of the shed to construct the secondary shed. Why can’t this be done with the lower portion of the normal shed to establish 3 sheds?
    Lower shed (reverse brocade design) middle shed (the normal shed for the weft) and the upper shed (front brocade design).
    This would allow you to have the same design on both sides or even have a completely different design on the opposite side while almost eliminating entirely the the unsightly look of the “running stitch” as seen on a single faced brocade.
    I have never tried tablet weaving…but I have a SEVERE fascination with it.
    I’m understand that it would obviously more time consuming and you would most likely have two templates for both front and back (especially if the design was different on each side), but…the possibilities 😊😊
