Tons of people asked me how I morphed an object while holding it in my hand. Here is the tutorial for the Advanced #Morphing #VFX with Adobe #AfterEffects
Thanks Tobias, for your tutorials. Just a tip that worked for me... I had an egg morph into a chicken, but of course, the chicken kept moving its head around, and it was tedious to track the chicken's movement and the mask tracker could not deal with this. The morph also looked a bit weird, almost like a jump cut because of the chicken's tocky head movement during the morph. What I found was that using freeze frames (Layer-->time-->freeze frames) on the two morph layers was not only much easier and less time consuming for a moving object, but it also looked much smoother. The other layers remained the same, but it was a simple matter to morph the egg at the beginning of the transition directly into the final image of the chicken. This ended up working much smoother for me and made more sense.
@@SurfacedStudio I am morphing two green screen video clips. Although the masking process is a bit tricky but the overall strategy is the same! Thanks again!

Hi Tobias. I have been a keen follower of all your edutainment tutorials and am very greatful and appreciative of all the fantastic content you have provided us over the years. I am an AE CS6 user and this is the first time I actually have a request if it is at all possible of you. could you perhaps do an advanced morph tutorial, but focusing on how to morph a super hero suit onto a person. Kinda like the Power Ranger morph as in the new Power Rangers movie. How does one record the footage? how are the effects applied so that the the suit is part of the person. would a costume be necessary or can the digital suit be tracked on a person? what options are there for the footage? what abut the Ironman suit or trying to create some bionic type suit as an overlay over a person? really hope you could assist us as the web doesn't have any good tutorials as yet regarding the morphing of this kind. thank u so much for all your assistance and help. Abdul from South Africa. ps. I'm actually doing this as a hobby cos I'm currently in the South African Navy. Hence my excitement when it comes to things like this. I'll be sure to credit u sir.
excellent! explanation of the morphing effects. wish you would have touched on how/why to use the Boundary Setting though. I never realized the liquify tool is like the mess warp tool.
Thank you. I do have to make calls on what to cover/what not to cover to keep the tutorials within a reasonable duration and it wasn't needed for the effect. I llike using Liquify for some more 'irregular' warping
LMAO....God damn it Selina... Loved the entire effect. ((Smooth)) Thanks a bunch Tobias! You make going to school fun again. ;D The detail that you put in your tutorials leaves me feeling well educated.
I love all your tutorials, and I watch each one. They have been so much help. When I started using after affects I was so bombarded by the interface, but these tutorials have helped more than anything. I'm still an amateur though and have yet to make my first short film. But thanks heaps for your epic free tutorials! Also, could you do a tutorial on face morphing. I've wanted to know how they do that horror effect where the mouth and eyes get really big and dark. It's creepy but awesome.
I'm yet to make a face morph/demon face tutorial - but there are quite a few of those already out there. Check out the one by Video Copilot on their website, it's probably the best one I've seen so far. Thanks for watching!
Man, this helped out a lot. For some reason, I thought the same way of how you were able to morph the objects while holding them by switching them, while in still motion and the camera still rolling. I'm a genius, lol. Just kiddin'.
+Surfaced Studio lol, exactly bro. It's useful, though. No one would notice if it's done correctly. I wouldn't personally have to time stare at every detail to notice a jump, who has time for that? Not me, hell no, aha.
Wow! Great explanations! I'm going to have to watch this video as I'm trying this effect. You really have a talent in teaching. BTW, I found this by Googling "advanced adobe after effects" and this was the first video.
Yeah, I'm not the linear process kind of guy normally, but I'm going through your 8 part beginner lessons. I normally jump right in, fumble around with the software, and then come up with something mediocre. at best. :D I have a bunch of dog videos I took with my gopro that I want to play around with. I want to see if I can make my 3 dogs look like a whole pack of a dozen or so. It shouldn't be too difficult: just time consuming. I wish there was an intelligent masking tool where you do the outline once, and it analyses each frame after that to adjust the shape of the mask as the target moves. Since the target only moves a small amount between each frame (at least in this example), it shouldn't be too difficult. I wonder if there is a free plugin for that...

many thanks dude with after effects CC 15 this doesn't work with PSDs. but it helped me figure out how. in order to use the reshape tool you have to the merge the separate files into one PSD and import it for creating mask 1 and 2.
it does, but when you try to copy & paste the masks sizes aren't retained and resizing affects both. the separate layers won't transfer or see each other in Reshape so i re-imported the PSD's all on one layer with the start and end mask on that layer and it worked. took about a day of trying different things around your basic setup but i'm new to AE CC
If you're just getting started with AE, might be worth checking out my 8 part beginner tutorial series: th-cam.com/video/pyvyRKtvGXU/w-d-xo.html It's likely due to the layers being scaled differently - when copying masks, their scale is relative to the layer they are applied to
Hello my friend, Do you have any tutorial in how to replace the object like spray bottle, is it difficult to mask the bottle when it is moving. I appreciate your answer soon. Thanks
It's a bit of noise + scale down (animate) the image to shrink + a simple lens flare element (you can get them from free plugin packs such as Ignite Express: th-cam.com/video/Q4HmEqDmFys/w-d-xo.html)
So how did you get that glow when you transitioned the two objects, and where would you get special effects like that and could you maybe do a tutorial on it?I got after ffects for the usage of those special-effects how could you do a tutorial on it please? Oh and by the way great job you're really good at explaining!
hello SURFACED STUDIO. Please i want to learn how you used a remote control to switch yourself off screen. I would really appreciate if you can make a tutorial on that for me. thanks.
I just animated the image to shrink and then fade away. I also added a small optical flare effect to make it seem like a screen going out :) Check out some of my beginner tutorials if you're just getting started
Excellent tutorials, do you have any for making animated videos, I've watched various but they are always chopped in their steps, not entirely complete which in a way sucks, especially when a person as newbie as I am don't know much about AE. Thank you.
carmac I am not sure what you mean with 'animated video'? Also, if you're just getting started in AE, I have a full series for beginners you should check out: After Effects Basic Beginners Tutorial 1/7 - How To Create Cool VFX
carmac Hm, the tutorials are interesting, I doubt I can break them down in a simple TH-cam comment. Basically it's just a bunch of layers that are parented together. They are using Expression controls (like the sliders) to control eyes/mouth animations and then keyframe what needs keyframing to create the final animation. I have tutorials on Parenting, Expression Controls, Expressions and Null Objects on my channel - all of which are relevant to some degree to create this type of animation
Thank you very much I will be checking all your tutorials because they are really great, I am sure that after practicing I'll be able to understand the mechanics behind animating in AE and start my own animation videos using AE, Thanks a bunch, truly appreciate it.
Superb tutorial (5 stars). Question: Does AECC have the codec MPEG-DVD? I ask because I want to do this effect with some friends and their children (for viewing at a party). They will want a DVD of this (for their DVD player). When I create the DVD, I will create a DVD menu (all in Encore). I currently have AECS5.5 Thank you in advance.
montgal52 Never used the codec so I am not sure whether you'd have that in AE. If you will be using Encore to create the DVD, wouldn't that be able to just package any type of video file into the required DVD format?
Surfaced Studio You are right. Encore will package (build and write) files into the DVD-compliant format for DVD players to read. However, I have been following Andrew Kramer's (Video CoPilot) in creating DVD motion menus. When rendering DVD comps in AE, he uses the MPEG-DVD codec because the users of DVD players will be navigating through button choices. If I am going to use AECS6, which really want to use, I will need that particular codec to continue creating DVD motion menus for DVD players. Your thoughts.
Hi! Plis can you HELP ME? In the minut 7:08, the propieties of the mask (NONE - INVERTED) don't appear, they apper in just a second, but when a copy the masks these propieties DO NOT appear and simply I cant do it :( is there any option? I have researched everywhere and I don't know how to make appear them. Thanks!
Hi, if you are new to how to use masks in After Effects, have a look at my beginner tutorial for masks here: th-cam.com/video/OzAkb7Cw0uM/w-d-xo.html :)
hi . thanks again for all your vids ...your fantastic......im having trouble with the liquify tool ......i cant get it to parent with a null object that i have tracked .....even with a adjustment layer , when i move the layer around the liquify effect stays in the same spot .....im trying to bloat the eyes on a face (the face is moving) ? is this possible? any help ? any torturals i can watch that will help? thanks

Surfaced Studio thanks for this clear simple TUT! you can now also use the mask tracker (cc2014only?) instead of tracking masks by hand
Yup, since this video is Pre CC 2014 I didn't do that :) There's always lots of cool new features coming out
Have you bought AE? :O It´s too expensive for me.. =/ But very cool!
Thanks Tobias, for your tutorials. Just a tip that worked for me... This opens so many possibility's, I'm so glad you don't have to mask frame by frame any more.
+Tree Nelson Nope, also you can use the rotobrush tool to make rotoscoping easier (though it's not perfect - good VFX take time)
+Surfaced Studio
time is all ways the best paint brush in all art. and all that is good : )
Your tutorials are great,I have learnt so much in a short space of time than I did for 3 years at uni.

Oh and by the way great job you're really good at explaining!
BarbieBeauty:* I just added a simple 'Glow' effect in AE. I got a tutorial on it here: th-cam.com/video/VB-MKEjao3s/w-d-xo.html
Thank You for your tutorial.
+Mekhias Capitle No worries!
Sir can u please give a tutorial on how teleportation is done in after effects and how the shots are taken....
prtysh nth I can put it on my request list, but I can't make any promises
Surfaced Studio will wait for it someday ...
hello SURFACED STUDIO. Please i want to learn how you used a remote
control to switch yourself off screen. I would really appreciate if you
can make a tutorial on that for me. thanks.
I just animated the image to shrink and then fade away. I also added a small optical flare effect to make it seem like a screen going out :) Check out some of my beginner tutorials if you're just getting started
Loving your videos ;)
Iggy35 Great to hear, thanks!
Can you please make a tutorial on motion capturing please
Unfortunately I don't have the gear (or software) to do motion capturing
Surfaced Studio
You are right.
Thanks! I had been wondering how you did that.
Lots of people have :) Rather than answering every single one of them, now I can just point them to this tutorial!
yes you can. :)
