Listening to Japanese can be a genuine challenge. Everyone has their reasons for facing this challenge. Why do you want to improve your Japanese listening skills? (i.e.-What's your why?)
こんにちは, I'm a fan of anime and their traditions, society, history, and culture! I mostly want to study it for my own sake and to enjoy challenging myself without forcing it, like a normal city college course would. There's always pressure but when it's on your own time it's pretty fun
I've tried their 7-day trial and I'm sold. Been learning 12 hours a day every day throughout the free trial. (Thanks, COVID-19.) They have an officially curated pathway from level 1 all the way to level 5! Aligning with N5 to N2 which is all you really need. All of the other endless extra courses and pathways are bonus content if the curated pathways somehow aren't enough to fill your urge or you want to focus on certain language skills. Also, you can sort the lessons by popularity. So yeah, I would drop the first con, the "Information Overwhelm," because of the recommended curated pathways which guide you through. This video is 2 years old though so maybe that wasn't a thing back then and/or their UI got better over time and was made less confusing. The second con, "The Small Talk," is subjective because I actually enjoyed them lol. On an unrelated note, you look like a really fun guy to hang out with. :3
Thanks for sharing this, Prince! It's good to get a second take from another real user. I'm glad to hear some of my cons get refuted, too LOL. But I do think it's one of the best things out there to bolster listening skills :) P.S. - Thanks for the compliment, too. I like to think I'm a fun guy to hang out with.
So I have a doubt. Soo it is just enough to use their official curated pathways? Like if I finish level 1 , can I go to level 2? Will I miss anything? Or should I do other courses too? Are the level 1,2 etc offcial curated pathways continuous?

There is a kanji-learning component of Japanesepod, that's actually quite decent so you can get a better handle on the kanji you're coming across. Isn’t this learning program good for speaking and writing such as kanji, too? If not, what are some more well-rounded options?
That's a great question, Mason! Yes, I do think it's a great program for speaking, listening & grammar. I have to say it's a bit light on the writing aspect.
There is a kanji-learning component of Japanesepod, that's actually quite decent so you can get a better handle on the kanji you're coming across.
So overall, Japanesepod101 is a well-rounded option ESPECIALLY if you refer to the notes as you listen
(when you play a dialog on your smartphone, you can actually see the full dialog in the notes - pretty detailed).
But if you're looking for more writing practice you might have to step outside of JP101 for that (Kanji in Context, maybe?)
Hope that helps 😬
I subscribed a long time ago when it was fairly new, and I couldn't stand that Peter Galante dude. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I couldn't stand his voice, and he talked ALL the time. It turned me off of it. I heard it's format is different now with different teachers, so I may think about subscribing again.
Totally fair assessment. I could see how you would say that, Mk.
I appreciate you jumping in to share you honest thoughts.
At least your honest. It feels like a scam
I thought the very same things until I had a chance to actually use it. And then after meeting Peter Galante (the creator) and his team, I found out that it was completely the opposite: th-cam.com/video/dwlr5m-FCqA/w-d-xo.html
I got a lifetime free account somehow
That's AWESOME!!!
@@TheJapanGuy I know right!
But doesn’t everybody get lifetime free account, cause the account is free but you can’t access all the lessons
F*ing sponsorships 😒
