would like to see a GOOD mouse supprt, not the huge circle thing, which seems super dated and really--really want a track pad !! but I don't see that happening as of yet, likely b/c then one could buy only one device and not have to buy BOTH the apple laptop and iPad and it seems Apple likes folks to buy multiple devices. smart for them...not for me though.
They should do one of three things: 1) Do what you suggested and develop an OS just for iPads 2) Throw macOS on the Pro line of iPads and keep iOS for the normal and mini iPads 3) Give iOS a good kick in the ass and throw in mouse support, a good file manager (whether its redesign the iCloud one or make a new one entirely), more support for full fledged apps (which Adobe is doing with Photoshop), etc.
i don’t think it’s iPad vs. Macbook. iPads can do cool things that Macbooks can’t and Macbooks can do things that iPads can’t. they’re different! and used for different things.
@Last Grasp Being able to draw on it and edit images with the pen for one. This is a huge, huge deal for artists and designers, maybe not so much for those who don't need this feature.
Leo Loner I think this is the point. No everyone need iPad the same with MacBook Pro - or any other apple product - someone who don’t work with high quality videos and photos, music, or need high capacity don’t need it, if you uses notebook just to check emails, watch videos, Netflix and do google searches, you know.. daily basics of a basic user, they’re good with MacBook Air which doesn’t mean that MacBook Pro is useless. I agree with you.. there’s certain type of toys for certain types of needs. We have to consider what is the one for us.. I don’t think iPads can compete with MacBooks fairly. 🤷🏽♀️
Yes. I bought a mouse and keyboard for iPad. I don’t use them a lot. I use the apple pencil much more. Macbooks and iPads can't be compared. They have different apps, different uses.
people in the comments section talking about how they gonna use there ipad pros for "professional work* and blah blah blah. just be honest, most of you will be buying this ipad to watch youtube videos and Netflix.
frank1971ification Not true for everyone. I’ve gone iPad Pro only (no more MacBook Pro). Depends on what your profession is. When I had both an iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, I would reach for the iPad 95% of the time.
Denis Frolov I run my financial services business with it (running web based software, email, GoToMeeting for online meetings, Keynote, Numbers for spreadsheets, Scanner Pro for scanning documents, Note taking during client meetings, etc.) It’s much better for filling out forms (being able to turn the screen to vertical orientation is a huge plus). It’s just better for client facing meetings than a MacBook. More engaging and easy to draw concepts for visual learners. I also do photo editing (Photos and Retouch), video editing (LumaFusion), songwriting (GarageBand), writing, ProCreate for drawing, and I could go on. Again, this is MY workflow, but I would choose having the Apple Pecil over a mouse any day. Also, the battery lasts twice as long as my MacBook Pro, so I never have to plug it in throughout the day. And for media consumption, it’s better than the MacBook Pro. Much better PIP functionality, you can download Netflix and Amazon shows, and overall navigation is easier. Did I answer your question?
@@bryanbuff Fair enough, I was just sarcastic, because now what's called tablets (in general, not only iPads) used to be netbooks a while ago. Kinda underpowered notebooks, designed for "nothing heavy lifting" but good enough for web staff and what you mentioned above. So they were priced accordingly. With iPads, different story, they are still netbooks by nature but priced as a midrange - pretty capable laptops. Over the years I bought numerous iPads, minis, airs, pros, etc. And literally spent tens of thousandsof dollars on Apple products, but all my iPads ended up being used for web browsing, kids toys, or glued to the wall as a smart home hub devices. I am not criticising you, doing what you doing I would probably stick with iPad as well, but I am a designer and software developer, so for my work, they all pretty useless. Adobe family, is kinda industry standard nowadays and as far I know Apple barely starting catch up with Adobe products. In terms of heavy lifting aka high definition graphics, animations, 3D rendering, unfortunately Apple products in general sucks. Probably because of their choice of AMD GPUs. So wrapping up, my MacBook Pro is still good as a travel companion and field trip computer, but all serious stuff is done on Windows desktop. And iPads, as I said for youtube, e-mail and netflix. Peace!
Denis Frolov If you’re coding or doing anything related to development, iPad Pro is not for you. However, you can tell how many people WANT the iPad Pro to be a laptop by asking for mouse support and macOS on the iPad. They basically want an Apple version of the Surface Pro, which will never happen. The power they’ve put into these new iPads with the A12x is undeniable, but they do have some catching up to do on the software front. Last year they focused on improving iOS performance, so hopefully we will see some big changes in iOS 13 to take advantage of all the horsepower in these new iPad Pros. Adobe is releasing a full version of Photoshop for the iPad Pro this coming year, so software companies are starting to see this opportunity. I definitely agree that Apple is pushing the “laptop replacement” narrative too much. I would call it more of a ‘laptop alternative.” They are two different animals, and for some people (like me) it’s become a very useful and enjoyable part of my daily life, professional and personal. To each their own.
David Ben James well someone people can’t afford decent pc’s so instead of having a shit pc u can get a decent laptop with the same money n it will work better than the pc Just get a decent laptop for like $1.5-2k and get an external monitor keyboard n mouse Much cheaper than a pc But if u can afford a good pc then go for that but u need Atleast like $3k plus for a good pc
Thomas Horsman Exactly. It can be used like one of those Wacoms that have the screen with Astropad. Works best with usb connection, but can be used wirelessly too through wifi connection.
The iPad Pro cannot replace a laptop, for some people, yet. The iPad Pro can replace a laptop for some people, already. It just depends. For a casual user I would say this is maybe better because it’s easier to carry. It just depends.
chrys lianos Don’t apple mobile cpu’s already run 64bit programs. Sorry if I’m wrong. I do agree on the Mac OS part though the software is holding it back
I’m getting one for drawing purposes; yeah getting a laptop would be more powerful and you can use full drawing softwares but I also have to buy a pen display to draw (which is extra 350$ for the cheap ones, they are good but, and if I want a good one they cost around 80-1k$ the wacom ones), also a laptop with a pen display is definitely less portable. That is why I’m getting an Ipad pro, there’s a lot of powerful app (autodesk sketchbook, procreate, medibang paint, artstudio, affinity photo, etc) that rival drawing softwares, it is also more portable and have great color accuracy.
In general, I prefer the tablets for viewing media and laptops for creating it. It's getting to be less and less like that, but it's still going to take a lot before I give up my laptop. It's indicative that you still can't really even do real software development on iOS.
That for me is the biggest dealbreaker. I own a 10.5” pro which is great for some quick video editing, but since I cannot do any programming on it i’m stuck using a laptop for some java bean grinding ;).
Can we make a list of what it needs? Proper file management Mouse support? Proper apple keyboard case OS should be a hybrid between iOS and OSX? Tablets are insanely useful and the iPad has the best hardware imo, but Apple should realize that hardware is not limiting the software anymore. Does a market exist where the “Computer iPad” can coexist with the macbook, or will the iPad continue to be the overpowered iPhone for interactive tasks and let the macbook be the dream, ARM powered laptop we’ve been witing for? Edit: one more to go 🤩
Aidan Eloff i just got a $29 case with comes with a wireless keyboard and it’s amazing ! The other 2 agree, if they fix this, the this Ipad will be 10/10.
Stop trying to use it like a fuckin laptop and you wouldnt have those issues, there are apps for file management, i have a case for the ipad I’m typing on now that is like a laptop keyboard and i can type 80 words a minute, its not an apple brand case its third party rugged as hell and useful
On my Surface pro I use Adobe Creative premiere 2019, CS6, Sketchup pro, Visual Studio, SQL Studio Manager, Propellerhead Reason, Office 2016, Autodesk, Royal TS, 4 different web browsers, several different full business systems, a lot of encoders, networking scanning and analyzing Tools, three different VPN clients, ISCSI disks etc. An Ipad pro is totally worthless and cannot do anything of the above.
@@johnnyandersson5622 A surface is a laptop in tablet form, and ipad is a tablet that happens to have specs that place it along with many laptops. you're not smarter just because you have a surface, they're not the same thing
How apple sees the world: Your iPhone will be your tablet (6.5 inches) your iPad will be your laptop your MacBook will be your PC and your iMac will be your supercomputer
Yep i need at least that because the app come with the time on any os but we know the f***** ios never is going to have a decent file manager so nop i prefer to use a windows pc,linux pc or even a chrome os with and advanced file manager from android installed
Rammohan Yedave there are quite a few apps on the app store that will allow you to connect your ipad to your PC and use it as an extended screen, I know Duet works pretty well but it‘s 11 bucks
I have the 2nd gen 12.9 iPad pro I love it for digital artwork and photo editing and watching videos but it doesn't replace my laptop (gigabyte aero 15x) my biggest problem with the iPad is the lack mouse support
Titanium Waffle I think hardware wise it’s better than any windows and android tablet but the OS isn’t bad but it’s definitely limited. I think you can at least still do some desktop-like applications? I mean, the iPad beat the i9 MacBook Pro by 3 minutes rendering a video.
@@pissedoffhoneybadger3733 but the ipad can't still run real desktop applications and video editing isn't the only thing that a computer can do how can people be so stupid? Always talking about video editing and gaming it's only just one thing a computer can do wtf !!!!!!!!
Le Chat Botté No, not a full desktop application but I mean I think they ported some to work for the iPad. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it was like photoshop or something.
It's better than a laptop in a way, so it should go for laptop prices. For an artist it's the best thing ever. If you don't believe me look at Wacom tablet PCs and the prices for these.
Text Mode I won’t be happy with the price of an iPad until it comes with the equivalent of a 1060 or better and actually come with some god damn Accessories like they used to
Great take on the iPad Pro! It is an amazing product and is the most fleshed out version of the iPad that Apple have ever made. I am also suffering from that "familiarity syndrome" of using a laptop for so many things that it makes switching over completely harder. But this iPad Pro generation is the closest one to make do that.
To be honest, a tablet seems like a in-between technology Not quite the goal of the future but something in the direction of that Like the notch, just less hated
Tablets are really great for the older generation (not always true) like my parents who are over 60. Too late for them to learn about using PCs (especially staying safe online), so tablets like the iPad is just the go-to device. Easy to learn and use, and enough to do what they need to do. Obviously the new iPad Pros are expensive and too powerful for their needs, so an older model is usually the way to go.
Mc 'Rage the surface is more laptop like anyway so weird to compare, also no need to change anyones mind it comes down to pure opinion and design/interface preferences.
Tbh biggest issues imho with the Surface computers is Microsoft. I had the surface book and it's nice but the Windows issues and the docking issues and that god damn pen. ugh.
@@parkour99ful Well. Didn't expect polite replies. And yes, totally agree, it's a preference thing and what people are looking for when making the purchase. My comment is strictly based on Apple marketing it as 'replacing laptop' because for that purpose a Surface Pro would be a better choice. But as far as tablets are concerned, I'm a firm believer of Apple having no competition in that space.
Now after WWDC , knowing that the new ipad os will enable you to do proper file management, use usb drives, and the mouse support on the ipad pro, im pretty sure that it can now replace a laptop. I guess we ll just have to wait and see.
Lew, please review the Surface Pro 6. I know you just took a look at the Surface Laptop 2, but there are many differences between the Surface Pro series and the Surface Laptop series [like the more flexible keyboard, the kickstands vs hinge, and the uses for the Surface pen on a tablet vs a laptop]. I would like to know what you think of Microsoft's tablet and if it's worth purchasing. Also, since you just tested the IPad Pro, I would love to hear your opinion on how they compare. Thanks
I'am a hardcore Surface Pro user, an I love it. It is absolut worth the money. No other Computer brings the mobility from an Tablet and the power from an Laptop. Sometimes, you have to deal with bad updates, strange behavior and the other Windows 10 problems. But I don't like that there is no Hardware Support after 1 Year. If the SSD died or if the battery capacity low, you have a very expensiv brick.
Microsoft’s Surface line is great. I have the Book 2 and it’s easily one of the most impressive pieces of tech I’ve seen and used. It all depends what your needs are though. The biggest problem with the Pro and Laptop is the lack of USB C and Thunderbolt. My Book 2 has USB C but no Thunderbolt, which is a bummer.
I see a lot of people who recommend surface pros but I had a really bad experience with them. Windows 10 was awful, the battery was bad, and it got so hot just doing basic stuff. I’d be sitting in class watching a TH-cam video and you could hear the fans running at full speed. I was kind of pissed after spending all the money on it and the keyboard and pen. My experience sort of soured me to the surface line. But I do see people recommend so they’ve probably gotten better. I don’t know I wound up selling mine and getting an iPad.
yeah, I've noticed that too. I'd assume that just comes with his experience as a tech reviewer. He has definitely handled and used more devices than the average person so he's a little more comfortable, a little more... rugged.
"A laptop" Be more specific. Laptop covers a huge variety of products used by an even greater variety of people, each of whom has a different use case. The iPad Pro doesn't replace a gaming laptop, or a "workstation" laptop. But 95% of people who own a laptop just use it for web browsing, email, social media, TH-cam, and Netflix. The iPad Pro could replace those people's laptops just fine. Even video editing and sound-mixing is fine on an iPad Pro, though your software options are more limited.
@@nukm4 That's a fair point it is interesting that laptops have stayed in the consumer market as long as they have. I thought everyday consumers would just be on their phones or a tablet at this point. I keep thinking that soon that only laptops/desktops will be for gamers and business related users, but I have been thinking that awhile. Maybe I am wrong haha or maybe not
Roy Coto i wouldn’t call them ‘dumb’. for some ppl, $179 isn’t much, ya know? for some ppl 179 is like $1000, where for others, it’s like $17. it’s all about perspective. now is it reasonable? definitely not.
Michael Dyer true that, and more apps that suit a developer / creator. As a programmer I can’t do zip on this device. I do own a mb pro, which works great. So for me there is no need for a device like the iPad pro. If you are an artist, I have seen what you can do on this device, so for them I can understand that you use an iPad pro.
I have a 15” Macbook Pro-I use my 12.9 Pro 90% of the time. Use the laptop now primarily to access external drives, dual monitor for some work with spreadsheets with Ipad. I have gen 1 and gen 3 12.9, use with a Logitech BT keyboard part of the time and the Pencil (gen 1 and 2 for 2018) or touch. I will not buy the Apple keyboard case-right now using folio case but debating between the new Zugu or the Brydge for 2018-neither are available right now. I have the Logitech Slim combo keyboard case for the gen 1. Waiting for USBc accessories (esp, hoping some mfg does an app for its USBc drive-use a WD wifi/USB external drive now for traveling with Ipad). I have had an Ipad since 1 so I’ve learned how to use it productively (as well as for entertainment) but IOS 11 and 12 made all the difference for me. Are there things I hope happen besides USBc accessories?? Yes, better file system (though have adapted for now), better keyboard case, resizing windows (I live with split screen and change size all the time- plus slide over some), 2 versions of same app side by side-but still prefer using it to my Mac with mouse and BT keyboard.
@@saulloll8547 I have an iPad Pro 11 with Apple Pencil but I'm a digital designer so it got it's place in my workflow. Besides that, notes taking indeed. But I think you can only take real advantage of it when you have like, iPad screen size.
What kind of work do you do on it? Most TH-camrs say you can't replace a laptop because you can't edit vids and whatnot. I just use a laptop to write papers and study. Plus, just got an iPad pro today
No. MacOS has way too much legacy baggage, iOS will catchup just fine, maybe a _short lived_ iPad specific flavor with Mac Like capabilities is the best bet for future.
Guys, this is not the same. If a tablet had an OS like a laptop and accessories like a laptop then it is a laptop! The horses and cars comparison is not valid because you can't upgrade horses to become cars! But you can upgrade tablets to become laptops
@@majdgharib2279 you have flaws in your argument. Tablets and laptops have the line blurred. There are detachables and convertibles everywhere now. The iPad shares the form factor of a convertible, and may look well better than the Surface Pro. With a small update to the File System, it will be the laptop to get.
I’ve had the 11” for about 6 weeks now. I bought the pencil, but didn’t get the keyboard folio. I just bought a regular case instead. I’m finding that I use this more than my Mac Mini. Editing video is only slightly more difficult than doing it on the mini as far as work flow, but only slightly. This thing is also super powerful, as well as being super portable. This is the take anywhere computer, in bed, out in the backyard, on the couch. I even had this thing at Home Depot entering SKU’s and prices into a spreadsheet for a bathroom remodel, just walking around the store and standing in the isle figuring out what I was going to need. Try that with a laptop or even a phone. The speakers are pretty good as well. Often times I don’t bother to pair it to a Bluetooth speaker unless I’m playing music, but like a TH-cam video I can hear that just fine. I haven’t used the USB C for anything yet other than charging the iPad but I’ve been considering getting a memory stick for video files. In short I really like it, and for me it is a laptop replacement. I have the Mac Mini in my office for all the mouse / keyboard traditional computing stuff and find that I just don’t need a laptop at all.
asimple I find it comfortable. It’s about the same size as a regular iPad but with more screen. (It’s actually a half inch longer and wider than the Air 2) I’ve never really used one of the large iPads but they seem a little too big to me, but I’ve never heard anyone say they thought they were too big that had one. You should go to the store and get your hands on both of them before spending a big chunk of change. As far as storage it was recommended to me to not get too crazy with that because you can store quite a bit of media on a 500GB USB C thumb drive for instance, for a lot less than Apple charges for onboard storage, so I went with the 256GB iPad. I May not even run into a storage problem with that much, but time will tell.
I use this thing religiously for work, school, and life. I’m a pilot it’s amazing. That said it has its drawbacks and they all relate to the keyboard. I use a pelican case which I but up with a pair of scissors to make it fit the pencil so it charges. The problem your having is using it with a keyboard but using it without is where the real success is. Apple has some room to grow on utilizing the pencil in apps and work needs to be done to make the apple on screen keyboard better. Idk make it vibrate a little when you press keys or something so it feels more real. That said I’m typing pretty fast on this screen right now cause I’m used to it. But to be 100% honest in the two weeks I’ve had this in my life it’s become absolutely a necessity. Between the utilization for foreflight, the ability to never lose the pencil (for the most part) and with my cell service I can use it anywhere at any time and access my college classes through apps. It’s like 90% perfect for me with 10% that needs to be fixed or optimized within apps or in software. I can list like a ton of things that I wish this thing had but that said I love it.
GXNGHIS It works really well! (There’s the app by microsoft) To create documents i still prefer using pages and exporting it in Word though, I find it more handy
@@ManasSharma07 Yeah we all remember the metro interface and Windows RT, but how did that turn out? =') Otherwise, Surface seems quite nice, but they are also expensive, have bugs (according to reviews, like keyboard or stylus not recognized until you reboot for example), you still have Windows, the stylus isn’t as great and the overall experience just isn’t as nice. iPad have apps really optimized for a tablet device and it works so great so fast (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, ProCreate, Notability, GoodNotes, Onshape, Shapr3D, GarageBand, Auxy and others are just really nice to use). If you want a real tablet, a Windows laptop with a touchscreen isn’t one.
Manas Sharma Having a touch screen on a laptop makes it no where near a tablet...maybe a tiny bit. The Surface is a straight up touchscreen laptop with poor tablet capabilities. The iPad however is more tablet less laptop.
I just got my 11 inch pro. I would never buy a flip case for this. An OtterBox case is strongly suggested due to the bending and thinness. This iPad is a joy to use... Especially with the pen.
Apple be like. Apple watch replaces your iPhone. XS max replaces your tablet. iPad pro replaced your Laptop. MB pro replaces your PC. iMac pro replaces your....... What ? Studio, WorkStation ? I don't know.........
Yes the CHOICE sucks. As a coder an iPad probably will not cut it. But for drawing as an artist Then YES an iPad would work great. I need to upgrade my Surface Pro 3 as It sucks for running Photoshop and it suck to draw with the pen as it has huge latency issues. So I use my smaller Wacom tablet. Main issue is Cost, I can not afford BOTH upgrading to an iPad and getting a PC that can Compile code fast.
Why just not just upgrade to the surface pro 6? You'll get more options to design apps/programs on a surface pro 6 than an iPad, which uses much more dumbed down versions of design apps (such as Photoshop). And you'll be able to code on a surface 6 since it uses windows. And it won't be as expensive as buying an iPad + a coding PC. You'll really get the best of both worlds with a windows Surface tablet. So what you really need is to upgrade. After all Surface pro 3 is getting quite old now specs vice.
mrdoktor911 why? it’s still a laptop. Yes it can be a tablet (albeit a crappy tablet), but if you have a keyboard and trackpad, it’s a laptop. Switching from a normal laptop to a Surface Pro wouldn’t be as drastic compared to this test.
I have a surface pro 3 and a surface book 2. The SP3 kinda sucks. Biggest problem is the keyboard doesn't connect and work on the device 100% of the time. It's not just mine, I've seen it across thousands of SP3s... It''s heavy as fuck, but in my opinion, I think the surface book 2 is the better hybrid of a laptop/tablet, honestly. It can *literally* do everything a laptop can in both "laptop" or "tablet" mode, is fairly powerful, the battery lasts a pretty decent amount of time, and has a SUPER nice 3000x2000dpi display. It's also like, $2000 though. Thing is, if you were going to buy a laptop and a tablet, you're going to spend about that much for two quality units anyway.
@@elesjuan for that amount I rather get a macbook pro... and I wouldn't care about the touchscreen... mayb one day Apple finally caves in and let's their OS become touch friendly or combine iOS with their computer OS... who knows it can happen since their computers dont sell nearly as much as the iPhones do... in the near future where u can charge your phone in like 10mins not an hr and charge truly wirelessly a la AirCharge... where u can have WiFi X the next gen of WiFi all around the house and Gigabit speeds means no buffer ever and 5GAdvanced network speeds are as much as 250mbps which is a dream... oh what a dream the future brings
I bought the 12.9 version a few weeks ago, and love it. I am a college student and it is great, it has almost replaced my MacBook. It’s fine for taking notes in lecture classes on pages, or google docs. It is great for my art classes, I’m using it for my final in both of my art classes. Drawing is fun and pretty easy on it, and the photoshop apps are pretty good, but still not quite the same as on a laptop. The only classes that I can’t replace my laptop in are my film classes. Adobe rush isn’t my favorite, and I need after effects. I agree the outside of the case gets really gross, but over all I really like it, but it definitely isn’t for everyone.
You arent doing anything really demanding so its not that impressive that it almost replaces yout macbook.... Notetaking and drawing ??? What about people studying universitu level tech and sci3nce related stuff? This Ipad replaces laptops the exact same way the previous generations did... Super light users and artists
bruno lopes sorry my being a film and art student isn’t “demanding” like your “‘tech and science related stuff” I was speaking from my perspective, not from someone who does “tech and science related stuff”. Sorry my review isn’t up to your standards. As I said it might not be for everyone.
@@brunolopes2205 So what what I actually study is Chemistry at Uni. The iPad has been much more useful for me in learning however when i'm typing for long periods of time, I switch back over to my macbook (for Lab reports and essay type writing).
As a university student using the new iPad Pro for about 3 weeks now, I have to agree with Lew. I mainly use the iPad Pro with the apple pencil 2 as a ‘physical’ note taking device. I annotate PDFs and articles with ease. I can download and view presentations with ease. The one thing that is challenging and super frustrating is the MS Word app. It’s not the same as it is on a laptop. Typing out a 10 page essay on an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard will probably make you throw the iPad out the window lol.
I am a 11 yr old who uses the 11 inch iPad, it works perfectly for me for typing essays, projects etc. I also love playing higher end mobile games like World Of Tanks and War Robots perfect for me
I say that it can't replace a laptop, but it is an addition to the laptop. Like if you have a MacBook, you can do things that you can't do on a iPad, but for the iPad, there is some things that you can't do on the MacBook. But when you combine the powers of both, you have an incredible amount of power. But it can't replace a laptop, no matter how good it gets.
Make macOS available to this. Or at least get a file explorer for macOS I mean, it's a essential / basic feature! It's like getting a more powerful engine for a car... with blown tires. Fix that first. You can't name something "Pro" if it doesn't have the essential first.
J R The code leaks in the BETAs for IOS 13 show a full fat file system coming to at least the iPad Pros It will still have very much the same layout as the current “Files” App, but with pretty much the Sam functionalities as the standard OSX file system found in out modern MacBooks.
My stupid teacher keeps circling the class so I have to hide my phone every two seconds. But for Lew, it’s worth the risk. Edit: she caught me and told me to put it away Edit2: she caught me again and said bring it up Edit3: on my way to the office
this is the greatest piece of tech for college students and artists. why the fuck else would you need an apple pen for. obviously you wont find any greater benefits to an ipad over a laptop if you dont actively draw or take notes daily.
Hey Lew, I liked that video a lot but you forgot to say something about not beeing able to use a mouse on the Ipad. Do you miss a mouse, or is a mouse not really nesesary ?
Don't need it...fingers and pencil are quicker. Full disclosure: I have a PC (WIN10, AMD Ryzen 7200x 8 core, 16 threads, 32 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1080), a laptop (WIN10, 8th Gen 6 core i7, 16 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1060), and Samsung Tab A and iPad 3. The latest machine is the iPad Pro 3, 12.9" with 512 GB RAM. They all synch, they all have a "place"...no more clunky laptop in meetings or presentations. I cannot imagine wanting to ditch any of these machines (perhaps the older tablets - but they are good e-readers) and I choose to use what makes sense for the task. It's all good in Dec 2018. In a few years, we'll see.
Sophia LZ iOS isnt bad, but it needs a better file management system and mouse support before it’s ready to compete as a laptop replacement. Even Android has both of these requirements already.
Bought the iPad for school about 6 months ago so far it’s been amazing, although i have a desktop where i wright all my essays and reports. It’s the best for taking notes and watching vieos🤫
I have a ZTE tablet that I've had for a while, and although it's a budget tablet and pretty much any iPad blows it out of the water, it works fine, and it's the same idea as this because I've got a keyboard that I use for it. I can edit videos, write scripts and comments, watch videos on the go, etc and I love it because of that. It's the PORTABILITY that does the trick for me, and that's what tablets are for. But as anyone who's ever used a laptop and a tablet and compared them knows, it's not a replacement for a good desktop or laptop. Computers are just the ultimate multitasking electronics.
Apple iPad Pro 2018 - It has its own use cases and target audiences. It's not a laptop or full fledged computer replacement in any means. After all it has iOS on it.
In my theory, it would be nice if it an ipad but with a mac os mojave inside of it. I think this could be the solution for the problem of lew is having.
The issue here is Apple's business and sales strategy. They want you to have a Mac AND an iPad. The A12X chip is more than capable of running MacOS for example, but this would take away sales from their Mac line-up. Same reason why they have limited support for bluetooth and no bluetooth mouse functionality. They don't WANT you to use this in place of your laptop. Also, this keyboard starts at $170 (for the 11 inch pro) and is not illuminated. That is completely unacceptable.
4:30 my sentiments exactly. There’s just something fun about it vs pulling out a laptop. Just type it in real fast if u have to be booting up the MacBook 💻
+All Videos It already runs OSX. iOS was built on OSX’s backbone. As well, Most people have problems with how files are managed in the current Apple provided “Files” App. Code leaks in iOS 13 BETAs give, at least he iPad Pros, the same file management abilities as OSX on a Regular Mac.
I didn’t think for once about getting my dell laptop repaired for last 18 months (wow I just realised it). That speaks a volume about the utility of iPad Pro.
Finally, this review is simple, honest, to the point. Instead of being and emotionally unstable fanboy, you give an opinion, stating the bad, praising the good, this is how its supposed to be.... The iPad is strange, since it is already the best tablet there is with no comparison, now its in the bottom of the computer spectrum... that is amazing and an achievement.
For around $500-$700 more, you can use a 15" or 17" Gaming Laptop with a GTX 1060/1070, a 6 core i7 and with a Nice Quality Keyboard. . You can use it for Video Editing, Playing most New Games on Medium/High Settings, Microsoft 365 for School/Work, Watching TH-cam while Multitasking, and have All the Connectivity you'll Ever Need.
RazorBlade true. But so you have the mobility? THAT is what this device offers. And it’s very clear about it. Without the need for mobility you have no need for this device. So don’t compare it to that. If you have need for very high mobility the device you mentioned might not be portable enough (to heavy/big etc) and it’s not for that. Different devices. Fulfill different needs. That’s all.
Stefan Holmqvist Absolutely. My laptop is mobile enough to put in my case and bring it wherever I want to use it. It's not a desktop duhhh!!. If I want something to bring to bed with me I'll use my 6.4" note9 mobile phone to watch TH-cam, Netflix, ask google random questions, surfing porn, snapping pics, vids and more on all while fitting into my pocket, it also makes calls. The iPad has its place between a laptop and a new smartphone. But at that price point I want a lot more fucking options. What does an iPad do that my phone can't? It doesn't have a place in my life. My phone and laptop are enough
@@TampaGigWorker for me, the ipad for the apple pencil is everything, i use it for every single one of my classes, notes, homework, studying, and drawing and there isnt really a good tablet to compare that too. But if i wasn't doing both of those heavily yea i definitely wouldn't consider an ipad pro so I can see your point
krobjacks I remember a time when pencils, pens and a note books were the way to go for taking down notes in class. I still prefer it for taking notes. But I'm 40, so... I guess I'm old school lol
I have the new 12.9” Pro and it is nice for a few things, but Apple cripples their users with IOS. Ni real file/folder access-forget it. Apple treats their users like their dummies. The keyboard is horrible and dangerous as the rear magnet is weak. And, there is no software to take advantage of the power.
GetoverYourself Honestly i don’t understand why people try to see how this tablet can replace their computers, it’s essentially the same as an iphone xs running ios 12, so if your iphone replaces a laptop than the ipad will be great for you, other than that this is nowhere near a laptop replacement.
@Alexander Well, it *costs* as much as a computer. Personally as a drawing artist I'd love to buy me one, as it has the best drawing tech in the biz and a great screen, but I also really need to buy myself a computer with a proper OS. So the Ipad pro is just too much of an investment.
I usually buy apple accessories for my Apple device but for my iPad Pro 2018 I bought the Logitech one because it protects the iPad more and it secures the Apple Pencil more
Pranav Menon why the keyboard? The OS I agree with but the keyboard is nice and light, if you want more functionality the Logitech slim folio Pro is there
there is no comparison here the surface pro is a far more capable and more accurate to a laptop replacement, for 1 upgrade-able storage then theirs the USB port the fact that you don't have to go round so many loopholes plus it has a track-pad.
One thing that nobody has mentioned, is the fact that It’s all well and good that the paper is to hand if you have a Gucci life and a Gucci office, however if you have to throw it in your bag, or carrier quickly somewhere, it can be knocked off or dropped, and if you do you carry around with you all the time then where do you put the pen to stop it from being knocked off.? The problem is that the cover is great for desktop work, but rubbish for protecting it when carrying it around There are a few covers that have a school desk type theme where it has the next two extended bit at the top or the bottom where you can put the pen for easy access.

Should Apple develop a iPad OS which would be kind of a mix between iOS and macOS...?
would like to see a GOOD mouse supprt, not the huge circle thing, which seems super dated and really--really want a track pad !! but I don't see that happening as of yet, likely b/c then one could buy only one device and not have to buy BOTH the apple laptop and iPad and it seems Apple likes folks to buy multiple devices. smart for them...not for me though.
I like my iPad the way it is and I get allot done
BSKrm already sort of is
They should do one of three things:
1) Do what you suggested and develop an OS just for iPads
2) Throw macOS on the Pro line of iPads and keep iOS for the normal and mini iPads
3) Give iOS a good kick in the ass and throw in mouse support, a good file manager (whether its redesign the iCloud one or make a new one entirely), more support for full fledged apps (which Adobe is doing with Photoshop), etc.
Thats what it comes down to...
i don’t think it’s iPad vs. Macbook. iPads can do cool things that Macbooks can’t and Macbooks can do things that iPads can’t. they’re different! and used for different things.
@Last Grasp you can write notes and draw on an ipad, hold it up while you're laying down to watch videos, scan documents, etc.
Great point!
Bryan B, and what do you do on this, watching TH-cam or Netflix?

That is why I’m getting an Ipad pro, there’s a lot of powerful app (autodesk sketchbook, procreate, medibang paint, artstudio, affinity photo, etc) that rival drawing softwares, it is also more portable and have great color accuracy.
leon kastilyo that’s a good point.
There’s also the fact that there are multiple types of “pro’s” not just video editors.
The key difference is that if you have enough with the iPad Pro, you didn't actually need a laptop to begin with.
In general, I prefer the tablets for viewing media and laptops for creating it. It's getting to be less and less like that, but it's still going to take a lot before I give up my laptop. It's indicative that you still can't really even do real software development on iOS.
atomly Apple is slowly releasing more apps like Final Cut Pro into iPads
That for me is the biggest dealbreaker. I own a 10.5” pro which is great for some quick video editing, but since I cannot do any programming on it i’m stuck using a laptop for some java bean grinding ;).

Great take on the iPad Pro! It is an amazing product and is the most fleshed out version of the iPad that Apple have ever made. I am also suffering from that "familiarity syndrome" of using a laptop for so many things that it makes switching over completely harder. But this iPad Pro generation is the closest one to make do that.
To be honest, a tablet seems like a in-between technology
Not quite the goal of the future but something in the direction of that
Like the notch, just less hated
Tablets are really great for the older generation (not always true) like my parents who are over 60. Too late for them to learn about using PCs (especially staying safe online), so tablets like the iPad is just the go-to device. Easy to learn and use, and enough to do what they need to do. Obviously the new iPad Pros are expensive and too powerful for their needs, so an older model is usually the way to go.

Apple's paradox : If it's cheap, it sucks. If it's good, you can't afford it.
Lol
Sentence it in One rule: We need Mac Os on iPad.
One flaw: it wouldn’t be a tablet if that happens. It would just be a laptop that can’t support itself physically.
That'll never happen. There's a reason they make separate devices.
or a choice when you set up the iPad: macOs or iOS
No. MacOS has way too much legacy baggage, iOS will catchup just fine, maybe a _short lived_ iPad specific flavor with Mac Like capabilities is the best bet for future.
Just as laptops won't ever beat desktops, tablets and iPads won't ever beat laptops. It is as simple as that!
@Thinking X no one thought of that?
Automobiles quickly advanced.
In the last couple of decades most of the changes were cosmetics.
Guys, this is not the same. If a tablet had an OS like a laptop and accessories like a laptop then it is a laptop! The horses and cars comparison is not valid because you can't upgrade horses to become cars! But you can upgrade tablets to become laptops
I agree. The logic is wrong to start with.
@@bottleshark then wouldnt they technically be laptops?
Is the 11 inch a comfortable size? I can't decide between 11 and 12.9 :c
asimple I find it comfortable.
@@mendodave thanks for the reply, I'll end up going for a 64gb version as I don't use a lot of storage.
Don't worry guys. They will fix folding with software update

Nano Mine Apple Watch...?
Nano Mine I agree
Try it again when the new software update comes out.
With iPad OS (which I’m really excited about), iPad is probably *better* than a laptop in many aspects
I have it on mine and it, crazy good
Tom hi mate, could u tell me about Microsoft word please. I’m a uni student looking to buy one and no ones really making vids on it
GXNGHIS It works really well! (There’s the app by microsoft) To create documents i still prefer using pages and exporting it in Word though, I find it more handy
Tablet ≠ Laptop. That’s all.
If you can have both, then it’s the dream. I take all my notes and courses on my iPad Pro 10.5" and it’s so wonderful!
all windows tablets especially the surface series are basically laptops. And many windows laptops come with a touch screen with a flexible keyboard
@@ManasSharma07 Yeah we all remember the metro interface and Windows RT, but how did that turn out? =')
Otherwise, Surface seems quite nice, but they are also expensive, have bugs (according to reviews, like keyboard or stylus not recognized until you reboot for example), you still have Windows, the stylus isn’t as great and the overall experience just isn’t as nice.
iPad have apps really optimized for a tablet device and it works so great so fast (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, ProCreate, Notability, GoodNotes, Onshape, Shapr3D, GarageBand, Auxy and others are just really nice to use).
Apple is bullshit just buy windows or android based things

Yes the CHOICE sucks. As a coder an iPad probably will not cut it. But for drawing as an artist Then YES an iPad would work great. I need to upgrade my Surface Pro 3 as It sucks for running Photoshop and it suck to draw with the pen as it has huge latency issues. So I use my smaller Wacom tablet. Main issue is Cost, I can not afford BOTH upgrading to an iPad and getting a PC that can Compile code fast.
But for now... I think the choice will be just due to Cost and the holidays..... A Nintendo Switch So I can play Smash And Pokemon
Do the same test with Surface Pro.
I second that but he should do it with the surface pro go and the surface pro 6
Damn good idea
mrdoktor911 why? it’s still a laptop.
Will Carlon same! I totally agree with you
Can you use videoleap app in exchange of after effect?
If it could have replaced laptop why would apple make Macbook
Because they can. U dumb bro?

Bro, you bought the vegan case for $250. You should have spent the full $500 for the leather case.
Whole Food Plant-Based Man the vegan case 😂
I say that it can't replace a laptop, but it is an addition to the laptop. Like if you have a MacBook, you can do things that you can't do on a iPad, but for the iPad, there is some things that you can't do on the MacBook. But when you combine the powers of both, you have an incredible amount of power. But it can't replace a laptop, no matter how good it gets.

Jason Arnold It is $199 *USD.* He is talking about Canadian Dollars, which is weak money in comparison to the US Dollar.

I have one for work.
Now I want my own.
Gonna wait and see if they make a new one.
The 13 is a little too big. The 11 is too small. I need a 12.
Well apple won't make it so you buy a macbook
The 11 isnt small at all, its the second biggest display apple has ever produced on an iPad, i love my 11”. Highly recommended
Make macOS available to this. Or at least get a file explorer for macOS
I mean, it's a essential / basic feature! It's like getting a more powerful engine for a car... with blown tires. Fix that first. You can't name something "Pro" if it doesn't have the essential first.
Well Apple seems to hate their customers so they give Pro-consumer ideas the middle finger
J R The code leaks in the BETAs for IOS 13 show a full fat file system coming to at least the iPad Pros It will still have very much the same layout as the current “Files” App, but with pretty much the Sam functionalities as the standard OSX file system found in out modern MacBooks.
Apple can tho. They can name laptops "pro" even if they lack something as basic as necessary ports.
My stupid teacher keeps circling the class so I have to hide my phone every two seconds. But for Lew, it’s worth the risk.

Edit2: she caught me again and said bring it up
Edit3: on my way to the office
this is the greatest piece of tech for college students and artists. why the fuck else would you need an apple pen for. obviously you wont find any greater benefits to an ipad over a laptop if you dont actively draw or take notes daily.
Yes useful, if you not using the pen
iPad Pro with MacOS needed 😂
Yep. A proper OS and file management is a must. A micro-sd slot would be good too. Especially for a device marketed to creatives.
Interesting. I have an iPad Pro and iOS works perfectly for me.
Interesting. I have an IPad Pro and IOS works fine
Sophia LZ iOS isnt bad, but it needs a better file management system and mouse support before it’s ready to compete as a laptop replacement. Even Android has both of these requirements already.
thibaldus3 I agree, but the micro SD card slot is never going to happen. Apple will give you a dongle for that 😂
Bought the iPad for school about 6 months ago so far it’s been amazing, although i have a desktop where i wright all my essays and reports.
Lew: "I like the laptop, I Willie do"!
$170 for a keyboard that is ultra portable and doesnt need to charge, let along connect via bluetooth?
ok

Finally, this review is simple, honest, to the point. Instead of being and emotionally unstable fanboy, you give an opinion, stating the bad, praising the good, this is how its supposed to be.... The iPad is strange, since it is already the best tablet there is with no comparison, now its in the bottom of the computer spectrum... that is amazing and an achievement.
No need for tablets now. ultrabooks are light enough and more versatile.

There are a few covers that have a school desk type theme where it has the next two extended bit at the top or the bottom where you can put the pen for easy access.
