Reading some of the comments below scare me. The teachings of the Dalai lama is about peace and love. Don't bring religion into this please .... All I see from religion is segregation and isolation . The anger coming from some people in this comment feed is uncalled for. Live your life with an open and caring heart and it's a simple formula for a beautiful life. The Dalai lama is a wonderful human being.

The unique thing about Buddhism is that it can be viewed as a perspective instead of a religion.

he has a lot of knowledge and he has probably pondered on his message for a long time. How to reach out to the big mass, the mass that needs to understand in order to change something in the world. Charisma, message and truth- and how to improve your own life. That's what everybody seek.

our only purpose in life is that in which we gave ourselves a long time ago, that is our purpose. our task is to remember what that purpose was and for that we need enlightenment. to reach enlightenment we must be compassionate and calm and kind to all creatures and like tha dali said we will live life without regret and therfore fulfilling ur lifes purpose. act in this way and spread love to understand the deeper meaning behind ourselves.

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, full of mercy & good fruit, unwavering & without hypocrisy. The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by them who make peace. Happiness is fleeting. Joy is eternal and comes from knowing the true living God, Jesus Christ. In Him is the fulness of deity in bodily form.

It is not only necessary to have compassion for the friend it is also essential to have compassion for the foe. Empathy does not preclude the presence of a feeling of dislike or disagreement with another. Understanding anything completely is impossible, But having compassion in your work and life transcends all religions, allowing us to understand differences and embrace diversity.

so that will make your life miserable, the concept of Savior in Christianity has really big difference in what really the prophets had written, none of them was fulfilled. Christianity is more of a dualistic concept heavily influenced by Rome, Greek and pre-Islamic Persian empire, which is why rejected by the Jews. There is no Satan(fallen angel from spirit world) in Hebrew scriptures, All are in G-d's team.
But I say, if people are seeking for enlightenment let them seek.
They are putting an effort to make themselves a lot better and meaningful.

Just simply because I don't like that hatred feeling. I just avoid filling my heart my mind with unpleasant feeling. With compassion I see myself in others.

Many people only implement compassion due to their religious obligations. Almost like a moral tally chart if you will; "if this deed goes undone, I may suffer hell." instead of "if this deed goes undone, then the suffering of the other party will continue when it doesn't have to."
I have up-most strength in God, our Lord, but exactly, I do not need His rules to make me do right. I do right, because it's right. The strongest force is Love.
And it wouldn't surprise me if that was God's intention.

your answers are within, not without, stop asking for someone to guide you, search within to know yourself, and all the secrets you wish you knew will be disclosed in plain sight. You need more time observing the nature of your mind. Observe your behavior, observe these discussions you're invoking. Observe the mind behind the actions, and observe the actions that follow the mind. Your answers have been silenced by your will to be guided. You are the guide...let yourself be. Just be.

Thanks, but please know we're all just mirrors my friend, what you see in the reflection is what you project. So if you like what you see in one person, realize the world is waiting to reflect that very same projection. Often, the world as a whole rises (or lowers) to the level of our expectations. Its only scary out there if we don't realize we're all in this together. Its not me that you should be thankful for...its YOU! So, thank you for being such a pleasant reflection! :)

I prefer not to call it anything...I am aware of my actions, I see, and I seek, but I do not exist :) why do you keep trying to find an opposing view...can't you see that I am merely a reflection of you...you're arguing with yourself. This is your chance to show the universe you've really been paying attention. Relinquish yourself from your ideology. Free your mind and you'll find your heart leads you back into the light. Don't be afraid, you're very close.

Humans are animals, it's not a pejorative term. We are all primate mammals. We create our on purpose, instead of surviving and procreating. Our brain has the capability to surpass our instinct thanks to this very well evolved function of consciousness, self-awareness. There is something infantile in the presumption that somebody else has a responsibility to give your life meaning and point; the truly adult view is that our life is as meaningful, as full and as wonderful as we choose to make it.

THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION OF ALL:
    .
What is the underlying law of nature.
    .
As the way of all things, what effect do you suppose its question, knowledge, understanding and application by billions of persons will have on the state of global economics, science, the humanities, education, government and business?
    .
The underlying law of nature is the most important subject any person can investigate and learn about, can proceed to understand, and can then come to personally apply in life.

If there's no purpose ...what is the point of being happy ? Happiness is just state of mind which can be altered, from one thought of emotion to the next at the speed of thought. What is truly happy ? Happiness has various expressions and manifestations ... For some sadism is happiness, to another masochism is happiness, and still another gluttony is happiness. So again ...what is true happiness ?

The problem with his statement is that he never gave a good example to these people about what compassion really is/means. If you do something for someone else it has to be without ANY catch at all or then it is a contract. That's the problem with the church. Giving to the poor, give a donation etc.

I find a lot of people try looking for happiness in tangible things (eg drugs, possessions [including people being used in possessive ways]), and they expect these to keep them happy. The older i get, the more i feel true happiness starts from within, and can spread to anyone you encounter thruogh the day. I don't consider that selfish. If i walked through life screaming at everyone just on principle, i'd consider that much more selfish
