In Ruth Pt 3: In the Path of Blessing, Walking The Text founder Brad Gray introduces us to a major turn in the story of Ruth. At the beginning of the barley harvest, Ruth finds herself in the field of a man named Boaz. As we’ll see, Boaz and Ruth are both people of integrity, but the combination of their actions and characters creates hope in the midst of despair.
With a name meaning “in him is strength,” it’s no surprise that Boaz is a person of strength and reliability. Despite living in an age of self-interest, he faithfully observed God’s command to allow the poor, the orphan, and the widow to glean at the edges of his field during the harvest. His faithfulness is evident right away as the first words on his lips are words of blessing. And if that weren’t enough, he’s also mindful of Ruth’s protection. He’s not just a man of strength but of deep empathy.
Meanwhile, Ruth continues to win over the people of Bethlehem with her faithfulness, humility, and work ethic. As we’ll learn in Ruth Pt 3: In the Path of Blessing, her humility and willingness to work hard, combined with Boaz’s empathy, will put her directly in the path of God’s blessing.
