    Reminds me of the 1970 dodge sportsman van my parents bought as our family vehicle when I was about 9. We were in California at the time. Dad had a new motor put in it, my mom did all the body work, and as a family we all painted it with handprints and and crazy colours. It was known as the “handy-van”! We drove it across the continent when we moved back to NL, and it lasted another couple years until a head gasket blew while “in town”. Always a good memory. I love the idea of taking this van and making it what you need it to be as a super duty haul anything machine. Can’t wait for the next instalment!

      Man, that is a fantastic story! Those old dodge vans very styled beautifully, and the idea of a young family doing that is precious!

    Oh man, 1976 was the best 3 years of my life. I'd go into deep detail, but this is a family channel. Until I met my bride, 1976 was possibly the best year of my life. I still get flashbacks, I am still amazed that I survived the summer of '76.

    I've got the exact same project on the go right now, but mine is a '75. Putting the wood down on the deck this weekend and then getting a new windshield next week. Mine is white in color w/tan dash. Gauges don't work but I put in my own and a tach. I've also added LED lights to the deck, extremely bright at night. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who likes the older stuff.

    Ahhhhhh this is excellent, I have a 1973 gmc camper that Ive wanted to turn into a flat bed for years now, I baught it in 2007 and yes used it to camp with when I went out on construction jobs. I hate motels, in fact I slept in this the dead of winter with 4 and half feet of snow and -25c temps. Yes these vans are one tough bunch, my first was a 76 reg van 2500, my second was a short box that I switch out a 6 cyl to a 350 z28 v8 that lit the tires on demand, and for 15 years now Ive owned this 1973 gmc RV. Ill be doing almost the exact same thing as you at first, but I plan to add just one more trick down the road.......adding 4x4 so it goes anywhere that allowes this old clunker size wise to fit, hense a chainsaw will fix any tight spots heheheh, Love the vids Kyle, Ill be showing this seriese to my brother because years ago when I 1st mentioned this project he said I was wacked hahahah, going to whack his but with yer vids, and possible he will join me on such a great project???? I have always thought these old motor homes were full of potential. The heavy duty suspension and transmissions make for a solid base to start on. Many of them are low mileage for there age and have simple systems that are easily repaired. I like the idea of the van cabs because you possibly can extend the cab. Good video!

      @@kyle_noseworthyIt happens to people who don't check the oil before moving off....... I live on a narrowboat (mobile home on a boat) on a canal in England which sounds flash (some are) but mine isn't. It is like living in a long narrow corridor. I am getting a bit knackered (you need to be fit to operate the locks) so might get a mobile home. My friend converted a motorised horse box.
      ..p.s. I am enjoying your knife sharpening classes. You explain it much better than a lot of people. Thanks.

      Great question! I wanted a 1 ton flatbed. To buy an actual 1 ton flatbed is extremely expensive here, even one that is very old with extremely high mileage. With this vehicle, I get what I want without the massive price tag

    Good evening I have a favor to ask you and your family I was wanting to know if you knew anything about the engine because I own a RV just like that :-) I bought it with my Kung flu money and then my ex drug addict so-called friends literally stole the parts off of it and now I can't get it running and don't have the money to take it to a good mechanic :(when I bought it it ran just lovely! I bought it with my kung-flu money for $5,500 only to find out the man paid 600 for it so needless to say I was out some money but if I could get it back running it would be worth it to me! God bless y'all!!!

    A serious case of "confirmation bias" Kyle. I hope after you get it on the road and weigh in the cost of the restore or rebuild, insurance, operation, and how much you will really use it, you can say that it was worth it, I highly doubt it. Makes for great entertainment though Kyle!!

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whether something is 'worth it' is quite subjective, isn't it? What is seen as valuable to one person might not to another. One mans junk.. How to you quantify the value of an awesome shared project between father and son? The challenge and value in learning new skills. The value in having a product that is truly unique. All to be factored in, my friend
