“The moment that you realize that you are not the opinion of someone who doesn’t know you or care about you, the moment that you realize that, it’s like you’re clean”- Taylor Swift… probably one of the best quotes to date ♥️
She doesn't how much this words of her helped me to get through a year where I failed and I thought of all the reputation I will have in school after that
Even though what she said is true, the problems is that most people do care what other's think about them, even if they pretend not to and that's one of the biggest problems in the world, what makes it so toxic, people desperate to fit in.
The speech she gave at Hyde Park has had such a lasting impact on me. I wish she hadn't changed it. This is what she said “There are people here from all over the world, so if you travelled to be here, thank you so much for coming. And, you know, looking out at you, thinking about the fact that we all come from different places, maybe we all have different accents, we have different hobbies, different backgrounds, whatever. But there’s one thing that we have in common that I know for sure. That thing is that when we feel a great amount of joy, or a great amount of pain, we turn to music. That’s why we’re all at Hyde Park tonight. From talking to you so much, and getting to know you, it’s never been more apparent to me how difficult it is to feel okay about yourself in 2015. Real talk. I mean, every single day we go online - and trust me, I love the internet, okay? Love it - but, every day we go online and we scroll through the highlight reel of other people’s awesome lives. But we don’t see the highlight reel of our awesome lives - all we see is the behind the scenes. We see every single moment, from when we wake up and we’re like “oh, God, not feeling my hair today. Not going to be a good day today for the hair”. We see our doubts, we see our fears, we see our concerns. You are the only one who is inside your brain feeling all of your anxieties and the voices who are telling you that you can’t be who you want to be, or that you’re not who you want to be, or that you want to be more like that other person over there. Let me tell you, people are mean to each other, but no voice is as mean as our own voices are to ourselves. Is it true or is it false? It’s true, right? Okay, so if there’s one thing that you come away from this night remembering, I want it to be this - every day when you look in the mirror, and your mind is telling you all the things you are not - if those things are that you’re not cool enough, you’re not pretty enough, you’re not popular enough, you’re not successful enough, you’re not special, you’re not wanted, you’re not unique - those are not the things you are not. Let me tell you the things you are not. Okay? You are not somebody else’s opinion. That’s what you’re not. You are not going nowhere just because you’re not where you want to be yet. You are not damaged goods just because you have made mistakes in your life. Those are the things you are not. Let me tell you the things that you are. Would you like to hear the things that you are? You are your own definition of beautiful, and worthwhile, and no one else’s definition. You are wiser, stronger, and smarter because you made mistakes in your life, not damaged. And lastly, London, England, you are someone who is probably standing here tonight going through your own battles, fighting your own ghosts, trying to cover your own scars, stressing about your own stresses. But, rather than wallowing in them, you got up, you put on an awesome outfit, and now we’re all standing here together having the best time of our lives at a concert on a Saturday night. I realise that it’s not about being perfect, it’s not about feeling perfect. I think that sometimes it’s just about getting on with things and realising that you’re happy today. That’s all that matters. I just want you to know that one thing I have learned in 25 years, and I’m still learning, is that if you get rained on, you walk through a bunch of storms, life is constantly coming at you - that doesn’t make you damaged. It makes you clean.”
Clean always give me goosebumps and feeling that I'm in verge of crying. This song remind my darkest days but in a way that those days are just a phase. That after that, I can say that I'm finally clean.
This performance puts me in a trance. A warm, beautiful spell. This is one of her most well-written songs ever. And her interpretation of it is, well, just breathtakingly beautiful.
“So I’ve been watching you the entire night, and, um, some things that I’ve noticed - I’ve noticed that I’m not just seeing people nodding their head to the music politely. I’m seeing people, like, thrashing around and dancing so wildly, as if absolutely no one is watching you. Like no one’s around - you’re just, like, in your bedroom jamming. Um, I’m also not just seeing people mouth the lyrics - I’m hearing people screaming every single word so loudly. And let me tell you why that makes me so happy, because that kind of behaviour is free, and uninhibited, and warm - the way you treat us is open and welcoming. And, you know, these days there are millions of ways for people to tell you how to be, how to act in public, what’s cool, what’s not cool, what’s beautiful, what’s not. And it’s really easy to become completely preoccupied by the idea of trying to be cool. You have a lot of people who will try and make you feel like being cool is being unaffected, and unexcited, and cynical, and chill. But do you know what I think is being cool? It’s being happy. And you seem really happy tonight, Sydney! You know, when somebody criticises you, or says something behind your back - those words that they said about you, it’s like you feel like those words are written all over your face, all over you. And… and then, those words start to become echoes in your own mind. And then, there’s a real risk that those words could become a part of how you see yourself. The moment that you realise that you are not the opinion of somebody who doesn’t know you or care about you - that moment, when you realise that, it’s like you’re clean.” (x)
“You know what I think is better than being cool? Being happy. And you look really happy tonight.” This speech is CARVED into my heart. Turned to it a million times when I was in middle school and a total misfit everywhere I went.
The drought was the very worst (Oh-oh, oh-oh) When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst It was months and months of back and forth (Oh-oh, oh-oh) You're still all over me Like a wine-stained dress I can't wear anymore Hung my head as I lost the war And the sky turned black like a perfect storm Rain came pouring down When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe And by morning Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean (Oh, oh, oh, oh) There was nothing left to do (Oh-oh, oh-oh) When the butterflies turned to dust that covered my whole room So I punched a hole in the roof (Oh-oh, oh-oh) Let the flood carry away all my pictures of you The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud But no one heard a thing Rain came pouring down When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe And by morning Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean (Oh, oh, oh, oh) I think I am finally clean (Oh, oh) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh Said, I think I am finally clean (Oh, oh) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh Ten months sober, I must admit Just because you're clean, don't mean you don't miss it Ten months older, I won't give in Now that I'm clean, I'm never gonna risk it The drought was the very worst (Oh-oh, oh-oh) When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst (Oh) Rain came pouring down When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe And by morning Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean Rain came pouring down When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe And by morning Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean Finally clean Think I'm finally clean (oh, oh) Oh-oh, oh-oh (Oh, oh, oh) Think I'm finally clean
Long live, TS! I am so emotional watching this as we have your own version now. I am always proud of you and our(swifties) journey... I love you forever! LONG LIVE!
Rerecords won't surely capture the raw emotions from the past era but seeing her grow from those heartaches and dramas together with the swifties then seeing her now, that's THE MOMENT.
More than being a single for 1989 TV, I really would want to have a full piano version of this song, hearing it from the rep tour, makes me crave for more 💙
Looking back on 1989 Tour vids, I gotta say, this tour stage was not meant for stadiums like rep was. Videos from arena shows, it is the perfect size. Just something I notice now
Brooklyn 99 got it right: "She makes us all feel things". Lol. When you start really paying attention to her lyrics, you suddenly start seeing there is incredible emotional depth there. Usually really consoling and deeply resonant with a lot of different life experiences
What did we do to deserve such a gift that is Miss Swift?! Im truly in awe of her and I’ve never been one to put another human on a pedestal. Taylor’s music is healing and the fact that she’s the sweetest person ever doesn’t hurt! Im proud to be a fan of hers and will be a Swiftie until I take my last breath!! When I went to the Eras tour I was so nervous because large crowds make me so extremely anxious!! I can’t put into words how I felt so at ease once I was in the stadium. Also, when Taylor was talking to the crowd you felt like she was talking only to you!!!! It’s was truly unbelievable! 🫶🏼😭💙

Unpopular opinion: this is the best song from 1989
Agreed
true
Not unpopular at all!

She makes live versions of her songs better than the studio versions, queen ❤️
This song hits hard particularly when you’re struggling with mental health issues and stuff. 😢

Jennie Kim need this she becomes to much hater for nothing
Don't forget to give props to Imogen Heap for co-writing this with her. It's got Imogen all over it. From the harmonies to the key changes.
I CAN HEAR THE INFLUENCE
Her voice was so rich and deep in the 1989 era 🤩
I would really love it if she did a short film for the rerecording of this song or atleast a music video. It really deserves it.
I hope she re-records Clean in 1989 TV this way ♥️♥️♥️
The repeated “I’m never gonna risk it, no!” Just emphasizes the message of the song even more 💙
Some of the most beautiful lyrics in the song ❤

And you look really happy tonight.”
This speech is CARVED into my heart. Turned to it a million times when I was in middle school and a total misfit everywhere I went.
The drought was the very worst
(Oh-oh, oh-oh)
When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst
It was months and months of back and forth
(Oh-oh, oh-oh)
You're still all over me
Like a wine-stained dress I can't wear anymore
Hung my head as I lost the war
And the sky turned black like a perfect storm
Rain came pouring down
When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe
And by morning
Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
There was nothing left to do
(Oh-oh, oh-oh)
When the butterflies turned to dust that covered my whole room
So I punched a hole in the roof
(Oh-oh, oh-oh)
Let the flood carry away all my pictures of you
The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud
But no one heard a thing
Rain came pouring down
When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe
And by morning
Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
I think I am finally clean
(Oh, oh) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh
Said, I think I am finally clean
(Oh, oh) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh
Ten months sober, I must admit
Just because you're clean, don't mean you don't miss it
Ten months older, I won't give in
Now that I'm clean, I'm never gonna risk it
The drought was the very worst
(Oh-oh, oh-oh)
When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst
(Oh)
Rain came pouring down
When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe
And by morning
Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean
Rain came pouring down
When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe
And by morning
Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean
Finally clean
Think I'm finally clean (oh, oh)
Oh-oh, oh-oh
(Oh, oh, oh) Think I'm finally clean
realizing i might be able to actually see clean live in about 7 months is literally hurting me so much bc i literally cant fathom
ME but in 4
Not anymore babes!
