We were blown away at the massive underground lake at Bonne Terre Mine in Bonne Terre, Missouri!
The Bonne Terre Lake boat tour is awe inspiring. You'll see underground waterfalls and hear all sorts of incredible Bonne Terre Mine history.
This lead mine is five-stories deep, and much of it is completely flooded. Check out this amazing tour the next time your are near Bonne Terre, Missouri!

My wife and I went to Boone Terre the first year they were open. The boat tour was on a 4 person pedal boat with flashlights, they hadn't strung up lighting yet. Not near as fancy as you show it now, but an awesome trip just the same. Being in a completely black mine with just a couple flashlights gave it a very unique vibe.
The pedal boat sounds awesome!

Awesome vid. Ran across this while planning a trip to this. One minor thing though. The New Madrid earthquake along the New Madrid Fault line caused the Mississippi to flow backward, it didn't create the Mississippi. Although it did create a lake. ☺

Fun fact…the elementary school was right next to the mine and it’s now apartments….behind that used to be a huge chat dump from the stuff they dug out of the mine…it was huge…I went to elementary school in that building and we used to run on the chat dump in gym class…they have since removed it…pretty sure it wasn’t safe but 🤷🏼♀️….awesome video!

You guys were literally 5 miles from where I live I haven't been to Bonne Terre mines in years it's pretty cool though hard to imagine all that was dug out isn't it

If you ever get the chance to visit Bonne Terre mines to dive if certified, TH-cam video The Story of Lead.
How did they get the boat down there? Wow!!! Reminds me of The Lost Sea in Sweetwater TN.
They took it apart and separately lowered it down one of the old elevator shaft.
Very cool. I have friends from there, but I've never gone through the mine. I need to.
And just FYI, New Madrid is pronounced New Mad-rid. Gotta love Missouri and how we say things. :)
