  • I built this travel rod locker for my truck. Cost about $75 bucks and super easy. Comment below!

    The metal end caps kit are less secure? The ones that lock with a lock? Because the screws can be removed? One unscrewed plastic end cap and they have your rods out. I bought the metal end cap kit. Way more secure. But i have to say i like the way you did your lettering. Looks good. I should have done mine that way.

      HOOKED OUTDOORS thanks man. Yeah the reason I said “less secure” is I had about $750 worth of G Loomis rods stolen by someone unscrewing the metal ends. What I failed to put in the video is that I drilled the screw ends and use a very strong long pad lock to secure them. A leatherman tool fits in your pocket but most likely not a set of bolt cutters😂👍🏻 thanks for the comment brother!

      I hear ya buddy. I ground the heads of the screws down a bit so they couldn't be removed. Sucks about your rods being stolen. I have a few Loomis rods myself that I would cry like a baby if they were stolen. Sorry to hear that.

      HOOKED OUTDOORS man that’s a great idea.... never thought of grinding the heads down. Yeah I’ve gotten away from G’s now and throw all Falcon but yeah it sucked bad and I did weep just a tad😂

    Good idea. How do you hook it into the truck and how was the plasti dip/paint held up?

      Maine Trout Whisperer thanks for watching. The ideal way to secure the tube to a truck would be large U bolts and a truck rack. I just lay it inside the bed of my truck and strap it with straps. Works fine that way as well. The plasti dip has a few nicks in it but for the most part has held pretty nice. I put a plasti clear coat on it so maybe with a couple more coats of that it would've helped. Thanks again and tight lines.

    Maybe think about changing the title of this video to “DIY truck rod tube” rather than travel rod tube. I think most people think of a travel rod tube as being something that can be taken onto an airplane, which was what I was looking for.

    How do you protect the rods from scratching each other?

      Indiana D'Angler. I use rod sleeves before I slide them in the tube.

    No sanding? How does this look now

    • @bassin9114
      @bassin9114  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Billy Martin no there was no sanding at all. Other than nicks from being used it looks great and still works fantastic. The good thing about using the plasti dip is that you can recover the chipped spots when you need to. I have stickers all over it now.

    What size of a stencil did you use?

      Fishing Almanac I used 3” decals and sprayed the plastidip over them, then peeled them off. Thanks for the comment and view! Subscribe to my channel if you don’t mind! Thanks again.

    Exact material list?

      Kerney Brock I used a 10' section of 6" drain pipe, not schedule 40. I got it at a plumbing store. Lowe's or Home Depot do not carry it. It's just a lot thinner and lighter. You will need 1 female threaded end as well as a coupling and another threaded end. 2 threaded caps, 1 for each end. 1 large jar of pvc glue and a couple cans of plasti dip, whatever color you want. When you get the pipe, just tell them what you're wanting to do with the threaded ends and they will get you the correct adapters to make it work. I spent about $75 bucks and it has held up well. Hope this helps.

      Kerney Brock sorry male threaded ends not female
