Yep. It's a pass for me too. Same as Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. I just don't get why they don't release the superior extended cuts in 4k smh.
the added scenes to avatar in the beginning and the school actually made the story have weight, without it its just visual virtue
Yes, I mostly prefer the extended cut. Plus, THE WAY OF WATER pretty much killed my interest in this franchise, unfortunately.
@@michaelhall2709 I found it uneventful too. Not sure why it got good praise. I found the CGI better in the original. Not sure why they felt the need to mess with the original look. And the 3d just looked like 2d conversion. Really could have done without the 30 minutes of "your fingers are different than ours" which is just body positive woke injection. The original had a story while simple, this one was just social agenda crap
Man, I really wish these “stacked” disc releases would stop. I like the 3 and 4-disc holders with the flaps. :(
It's such cheap a*s marketing, the disc holders (or swing trays) are so much better and more worth your buck.

@@Lanosrep And getting your discs scratched and dinted over time? Regardless of CD, DVD or Blu-ray discs, they should *never* be stacked. You clearly don't know proper disc care.
Blu rays last 80-100 years you'll be dead before your disc 😂

Right? It's not worth it to me. The extended cut adds so much more to the movie. I can't stand the theatrical cut. I'm skipping this one but will get Way Of Water.
They never include extended cuts on first release.
I preordered the steelbook from Best Buy for avatar the way of water which I feel is a better buy I’ll probably get the first one at some point
Titanic 3D was also on 2 discs. I assume the 3D files on these really long movies are so large they can't fit them on one disc without sacrificing quality, but then again the first Avatar was only on one disc as far as I remember, and that one is also pretty long, so I don't know. It's a bummer, but at least we get a 3D disc of this. Just too bad they couldn't make some ultimate version with all the version in the same case, I'm getting both the 4K steelbook and the 3D slip-case for this one, which means I'll have 2 regular Blu-Rays and 2 identical bonus discs and two cases on my shelf.

Apple is demoing a 4K 3D version of Avatar the Way of Water on demo Vision Pro sets, presumably they plan on having a 4K 3D library but likely locked to the Vision pro since most 4K displays don't do 3D and the ones that do (projectors mostly) only do HD 3D.
One big thing as to why is because the blu-ray disc association does not have 3D at 4K in the blu-ray spec. If they did add it to the blu-ray spec after some r&d, then we would probably see some high end displays get the feature.
@@railerswim older 4k tvs most certainly can do 3d. I have a 65" LG 4k 3d TV. From about 2016. With a Sony 4k blu ray player with 3d. I have Aquaman on blu ray 3d

@Robert Vosburgh correct, but when they output 3D, they are set to 1080p at max and do not upscale when outputting to 3d.
@railerswim yes. But to say a 4k doesn't do 3d is false. Yes 3d is limited to 1080p. A 4k TV is more than capable of displaying 3d

Ther german 3d blu ray comes with dolby atmos. And as far as i know it is region free.

Honestly glad I got the Best Buy Steelbook for Way of Water because the way it's structured on the inside there aren't any stacked discs. Gonna have to get the standard slip version when it goes on sale tho, cuz the holo foil accents are just beautiful

Do any of the physical releases include the high frame rate?
No physical release will be in HFR for avatar 1 or 2. At this time, at least for now. 48fps is not possible on bluray or 4k bluray. 60fps is but thats because 60fps is in the bluray spec, for instance Billy Lynns long halftime walk and Gemini Man are in 60fps on their 4k bluray releases. 48fps is not in the bluray spec. In order to get 48fps the video would have to undergo a pull down process to fit into a 60fps container. And the results would not look good. It's like when movies are modified for airing on television. They mess with frame pacing and whatnot in a 3:2 pulldown process to fit it into a 30fps container

Hmm, yea I pre-ordered the 4K blue ray from Best Buy in a steel book, while I would of preferred to buy the first avatar in a 4K steel book as well, but they did not release one, for pre-order…

I don't care much about these movies, I just don't find them to be the best movies from any decade, I saw the first one a few years ago I thought it was decent really, but James Cameron needs to bring his early movies to this incredible format. That first avatar cover is neat by the way.
And by his early movies I meant: Aliens, The Terminator, True Lies, The Abyss and Titanic ( Although I heard Titanic has a 4K release coming up ).

It will require a 3D TV or projector and 3D Blu-ray compatible player.
I'm honestly not surprised that the 3D version is split across two discs because the 3D conversion of Titanic was exactly the same way. Makes it somewhat annoying for me as someone that rips movies to their computer and watches in a VR headset because I have no clue how to losslessly mux both files together, but at least I can make a playlist with VLC and save the file. And VLC can fairly quickly load up the next video I find so I don't get much of a gap.
Don't really like just the "A" on the spine, but can't wait to pick these up next week. 👌🏻👌🏻

Yeah. They don’t make 3D TV’s anymore. You would have to go projector to make use of the 3D disc.

@@gabriellabeck1190 LG LM6400 Cinema 3D. Glasses from the movie theater works on my TV, no need to charge batteries.
Unfortunately they stopped making 3D tvs but projectors still are made with 3D capabilities
would love 3D, if there was an easy way to watch for most folks! Shame it was defacto abandoned by most manufacturers

@@MonkeyspankO yeah I never got into plasma but I heard good things about it. Yeah my Sony is 65" so it's pretty nice. I moved on to my 4K projector that could do 3D. It's running at 120" rn and all I can say is wow! We need 4K 3D tho but I doubt that will happen unless 3D really comes back. I'm sure the TV industry needs something to sell right? 16K, HDR20+, and Super Ultra OLED. 😊
3D sales still going strong in EU thou not many new releases. Disney still releases 4K/3D but now only in Japan (region A)

The movies themselves are alright, but they really made those physical editions look appealing.
It would be very useful if you could compare these to the Disney Plus streams as both of those support Dolby Vision, and I've heard these physical releases don't?

Streams ...there is no comparison. Especially on Disney +.
@@cinemaarchivesnirvana2847 It's not as clear cut as it used to be. It depends on your internet speed and equipment to a point, and Disney add things like Dolby Vision and IMAX enhanced to the streams, but not the 4K disc. A better example would be a Christopher Nolan IMAX 4K disc which is miles ahead of any stream, but on Disney it's less simple.
I don’t like curved corners on slipcovers where the spine doesn’t meet the corner. Too easy to bend out of shape. The only one that isn’t like that is the 3D one.
I have no idea why thet put 4k and bluray and what is the resolution of the bluray and never tried any of them i just watched a 1080p from a free website and still enjoy

My son has a Panasonic 3D TV, but won't part with it. I have the Panasonic 3D bluray player to complete the package , but he lost the glasses. 😢 he just bought an 85" 4K/HDR TV too. Sadly, he hung the 3D TV in front of a treadmill...
I personally watch 3D movies in my Oculus quest 2, although that takes more work because I have to rip the movie and then convert it into half side by side. then I just tell the program virtual desktop that I'm looking at a side by side image and it stretches it back into the right shape and splits each frame appropriately. It takes a long time and with this it's going to take longer because the movie is split across two discs but it is worth it for me. Plus I'm considering getting a 3D capable projector which are still being made.
Not a big fan of Avatar, but that slipcover looks so clean I might have to cop it

A flawed release and no surprise that it's from disney. The extended versions of the first film are not present, and the film also isn't in 3D.
And then Avatar 2 is a real shame because the true version of that film will never be released at home. There are no 3D TVs being made, no 4K 3D TVs and no blu ray players capable of playing 4K 3D. The intended 4K/3D/HFR version of the film will forever be lost to time
Why tf should i need a 1080p blue ray of the movie in the same box with the 4K Blue ray?
There is no single reason to buy the 4K version but then watch the 1080p version.

Lame they didn't combine the 3d and 4k like Alita's maybe Cameron doesn't always get what he wants or maybe he just didnt enforce this. Makes me wonder though how hard he had to put his foot down to combine them for Alita.

The HFR would have to be put into a 50 or 60 fps container via step down process since the film's framerate would be 48fps, which wont look good and could be juttery. This would have to be done because the bluray disc association did not include 4k @48fps or HD @ 48fps into the bluray spec. Then the tv manufacturers would also have to support it (which would be easy for them at least)
Did I ask for you to explain why it's not in HFR, NO I did not.
Zero interest in Avatar or its sequels. There are better films that haven't got a bluray release, never mind a 4K one.
