- In today's video we repair the Gone With The Wind snow globe that we featured in Episode 171. We originally planned to give this globe to Ally's mother for Mother's day, since she is a huge fan of the movie, however, we didn't have he time. So, this will be a late Mother's Day gift. We also had two subscribers request this one. Thanks to DarkenedCharlieXO and T.J.s Animatronics.
This one had brown water, a large air bubble and a non-functioning, over-wound music box mechanism. We replaced the water and added 30% glue in this 4.5 inch globe. Ally went with copper and iridescent white glitter. We got lucky with the music box mechanism, we spun the regulator and that was enough to release the spring. It was actually a much quicker fix than we anticipated and the finished globe looks great.
Thanks for watching!

Yes. Ally's mother loves it!
Mine is dolphins. Exactly what I needed. No water and the sound wasn't working. Thanks!!
You are welcome!
I bought a Gone With the Wind musical globe at a thrift store, Scarlett and Rhett dancing at the charity ball in her black mourning clothes. Im looking up videos on replacing the water, cool In found yours.
Nice, sounds like a cool globe! We're happy that you found our video helpful.
Wonderful job, as always.
Thank you!
Beautiful! Lucky mom!
Thank you!
Nice job Tony
Thank you Missie! It does look much better now.
Beautiful globe ❤️
Yes it is. Haven't seen one like this before.
It's awesome seeing this fixed and working, thank you guys ♥ Ally made me laugh saying "guvnor" LOL I'm from the UK so it ties in.
Although I was the one to ask for flame coloured glitter I do think the gold or copper coloured glitter goes a lot better than orange and red. I think my brain was thinking "irridescent orange would be nice" but now I think on it the orange might be too neon for this pretty globe and take away from it, Ally is good at finding glitters that balance out.
See you guys next time! Take care ♥
"Ello Guvnah!" We went to London for our honeymoon back in 2004. We spent eight days there, except for the one day that we went to Salisbury to see Stonehenge. We loved it! We met a lot of Guvnahs during the trip. A couple of our favorites phrases were on the tube, or subway train as we call it here. The sign above the doors read "Mind your ead" as well as "Mind the gap" (The space between the train and the platform). We also had a lot of fish and chips during the trip.
@@snowgloberescue8887 I myself have only been to London maybe once or twice hehe but yes we really do sound like that at times LOL also fish and chips is the best but even better at the sea side (because it's even more fresh) ♥
Thank you for making this video.I have a Mickey Mouse Disney Musical Water Globe that first has no water and doesn't spin..
I will give it a try tomorrow and see what I can do in possibly repairing ?.
What kind of glue was it you used?...and alcohol?
You are welcome! We use 30% Elmer's Clear Glue and 1/4 cup of Isopropyl Alcohol per gallon of filtered water. Check out Episode 3 where we go over the tools and materials we use.
How many sticks to seal the globe where the air bubble is
It normally takes one to two sticks of glue to seal that size globe.
Do you have a video on how to repair an over-wound one that you wind by twisting the globe? (not using a "key" underneath it). It's a carousel horse by san francisco music box co.
Hi. We do not have a repair video for that type of globe with an over wound music box mechanism. However, It is the same mechanism as the regular snow globes. They music box mechanism is mounted upside down and a cup is attached to the winder shaft that the glass globe is glued into. When you turn the globe it turns the cup which is attached to the winder shaft. Removing the globe may be as easy as turning it counter clockwise to unscrew it from the winder shaft, just like the winder knob on most music boxes. Then you would repair the mechanism just like any other. You can check out Episode 14 to see a globe where you twist the globe to wind the music box. We did not have to fix the music box on this one but it will show you the cup that the globe fits in. There are several videos on the channel where we fix the music box. When it comes to an over wound music box what we found is that when you loosen the barrel and pull it away from the gear that it attaches to on the spring assembly the spring will release, however, you need to hold the winder knob, or in this case the cup, and let the spring tension release slowly. If you don't hold the winder the tension violently releases all at once and breaks the spring. Do a search on the channel for "Music Box" and it will pull up several videos where we work on the music box. Good luck!
Wow with the water change it looks so much better. I have to agree with Charli it goes really good with the gold glitter. I saw the musicbox and it was a little bit rusted. Question: If you got a rusted barrel (sorry if i named it wrong) can u fix it with putting it in vinegar or citric acid? And does it change the tone or is it the same?
Have a good one. See you in the next video.
Yes, the glitter worked out well. You are correct, it is known as a music barrel. Yes, you can soak it in vinegar to remove the corrosion. In most cases it does not affect the tune, however, we had one that was very rusty and once all of the rust was cleaned off it seems that the tune was slightly off. So it appears that it is not an issue as long as the rust is not so bad that that barrel has lost some of the metal.
