Discussed about switch assembly -
initially no points and crossing, it diverting tracks is called stub switch diverting from one line to other line.
then improved from stub to undercut switch, in this stock rails inside flange cut and removed up to tongue rail housing portion.
further improved from undercut to overriding straight switches presently using
straight replaced by curved then thick web switches since maximum safety and comfort and increasing speeds on turnouts depend on angle of X-ing.
