Looks very good! I painted the entire outside of my Hijet mini truck with two gallons of gray Monstaliner polyurethane bed liner, rolled on with 4" textured roller for the rough bed liner finish and with 1" brushes for the trim. I still need to paint the interior with the third gallon of Monstaliner but that will be a job for late spring or early summer. It was a pain working around the cool weather, rain and short days to do the exterior bed liner painting in the fall. The Monstaliner is a two part bed liner. Once mixed, there is maybe two hours before it cures so it's imperative to do all of the prep in advance. I sanded with maroon ScotchBrite pads and wiped with acetone to remove any dust and oils. I used the expensive yellow 3M automotive painter's tape. It gives a cleaner line than the blue house painter's tape. I've had my Hijet for a year and am only halfway finished installing the upgrades that I bought. I just 3D printed a custom battery cover that I designed and installed it. Maybe I'll get the seats reupholstered and the heated seats installed before the cold winter weather arrives. I need to remove the old Dunlap street tires, power blast the paint off the rims, powder coat them and install the new Yokohama Geolander tires. Lots of LED auxiliary lighting to install, as well as the Atoto double DIN Android stereo, remote keyless entry, etc.
You haven’t posted in a while 😢 I was about to start lining my truck bed/rack and just rewatched your video as a refresher. Going to get started with sanding today and maybe liner paint tomorrow 🤞🏽
I just bought an exhaust for my van. It was 78$ new but cost close to $300 to ship to USA. You can get one of those smaller aftermarket ones if you want the loud exhaust, or go to a custom muffler shop and have them fab something for cheaper.
I found an exhaust on eBay! I've seen a few others install it on TH-cam so I went with it. It's more expensive than I wanted, but I hope it will be a worthwhile upgrade.
I put a galvanized steel sheet over the load bay of my truck.Smooth surface, and protects the truck floor.I just touch in the paint every year, which I painted grey,
looks sweet! i'm watching to pick up tips & tricks for cleaning up the rust on my Sambar. it's way rustier than the pics when from when i ordered the import, but what can ya do! my question for you: after painting the bed do you have any issues with removing the top engine access hatch? if so, what would you have done differently / or / did you make an special preparations for painting around that hatch? thanks, -- new sub
I just did this. Kinda same way as you . Have you had to take ur engine cover off yet? I’m afraid it will rip it like a Sticker in more then just the “line” for the engine cover.
Did you consider using the remaining part of the 2nd can on the welded joints under the truck to prevent rust? Especially since it won’t matter about the color difference or on the light bar just behind the cab?
I used the expensive yellow 3M automotive masking tape and got very clean lines when Monstaliner painting my Hijet mini truck. It's also able to curve to cover stuff like rounded corners on window trim. The blue tape is good for painting houses, but not vehicles.
Great job! Looks terrific! I wanted to see how easily that rustoleum liner went on. You can get that muffler fixed at a muffler shop for around $100 here in NC anyway
I'm sorry, but while I commend your initiative and "can do" spirit, this is a rushed, sloppy and half hearted effort. Truck should have been masked, taped, sanded, wiped down with acetone and primed. Product should be rolled on with a 1/4 nap roller, not brushed. If the bed gets used, it will be coming off in a matter of months because it was not chemically bound to the substrate
Hi James, I appreciate your candor. While I did mask and sand the bed prior to painting, I understand it could have been done to a more professional level. However, so far for my purposes, the bed liner is holding up well. My main focus was to treat the existing surface rust and prevent further rust from developing on the bed and I believe I addressed that concern. For now, I am very happy with the results. Perhaps in the future when the truck is closer to being finishing I can post an update video on how it’s doing.
i think i just binged this whole series lol. i cant wait to get my hijet and do all the things
I have a Suzuki Carry and I'm still using these Acty videos as a learning point. Great job!
"The line isnt super straight, but neither am I..." 😆
Watching this all the way from Wales 🏴 in the UK. Amazing videos keep up the good work
Hey Mike, thank you for tuning in! I appreciate the support!
Nice work Jules… That truck is badass!!!!
It turned out so good! Truck is coming together nicely
Thank you! Working on the interior next! Stay tuned
It looks way better!
Cheap upgrade was definitely worth it!

Keep up the good work. :)

You should have used a paint roller

Bruh i want an acty too
You can! I’m going to make an import/cost how to video soon.
I may have a blue 1990 model for sale soon!
have found it is better to roll on that type of bedliner.
Ahh, good to know. Thank you for sharing!
Pro tip for any future painting projects is to use the green FrogTape brand. Those scotch blue tapes are hot garbage you almost never get clean lines.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! I ended up buying a Wirus win exhaust and installing that!
How did that stuff work out?
So far it’s holding up well! I will do an update video when the truck is further along
Nice, I'm hoping to try it out too.

Looks a lot better than your video tutorial of how to do it 😂 I’m JS.
