I was blessed to be a Regular US Army Service driver for 5 years at the Academy. I worked out of the transportation motor pool from June '71 through June '76. I remember when the Academy LTs came into the line units after their traning, the COs handed them over to us NCOs who had to teach them how to be real soldiers and we werent polite about it.
A fella one year ahead of me in high school went to West Point. He had the morals of an alley cat even while attending West Point. He was back on leave here in town, he got caught along with his old high school buddies breaking into the local Budweiser warehouse and stole beer. That West Pointer got kicked out for being a thief. I saw him years later and asked him about why he did not graduate West Point ? He told me he got out on medical issues. Not only a thief but, a liar also. Had a West Point graduate for a supervisor in civilian life, had to be the most arrogant, self centered persons I've met to date.
You will find all kinds coming out of the Service academies. Some good; some not so. I found that the electrical engineer majors were the most un-phased (un-brainwashed) of all of them. Just real even-keeled individuals who assess everything based on facts.
There are very few dates on each year's calendar that some country somewhere isn't celebrating independence from the British empire. Might rethink that king and country thing. That isn't what keeps Britain going.
