Excellent explanation and easy to follow. Have viewed several methods of calculating HCF and LCM, but I must admit that this method using Venn diagrams is the best. You can visualize the formation of HCF and LCM in a pictorial diagram. Pictorial description is always the best.

But how do we find that we apply HCF or lcm in exam-type questions?

It will just straight up ask you for the HCF or the LCM. It will probably be for a 1 or 2 (max. 3 if it’s both) mark question.
