DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
1) These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
2) These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
3) All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
4) Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
5) Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
6) Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
7) Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
8) All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
9) Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
Good morning. It's just not complete without you!
A VERY good morning everyone and evening also, enjoy your weekend, thanks Jonathan

Hello 👋 Louise 💐
Dutch defence minister Ollongren has stated that 'our' F16s can be used against targets within Russia. Within customary laws of war, that is. NRC newspaper, 26 April.
If you think about it the F16 becomes Ukraine's after it is taken over so why cant they do what they like? Russia is using Iranian drones to hit inside Ukraine, and north Korean weapons, so what is good for the goose is good for the gander, as the old saying goes
@@davedixon2068 The only condition is: 'Don't commit any humanitarian war crimes'. I think that is not what Ukrainians are doing anyway. No problem.

Good Day JP, TEAM!!!!
Sure you will be on it JP but see some breaking UK news in line with your 'we are at war' position with two UK nationals charged with basically aiding the Russian war effort in burning down UK warehouse property with links to Ukraine war effort here in London.
Good morning ATP team. russia is fast approaching another very grim milestone. There is some debate about US losses in WW2, but the most accepted figure would be 471k KIA. I think the Ukraine General Staff figures are pretty close. Within a few more weeks russia will have passed all the American KIA in all theaters during the World War. If this war goes on like this for another year russia may lose more soldiers than American lost in every war since the American Civil War. This is without Ukraine fielding a single modern airframe and never having a steady supply of ammunition, both of which they will have soon.
Remember, the Ukrainian MoD numbers are killed and wounded.

Those drone cages are only effective on FPV's requiring impact detonation (using a PG-7 RPG warhead typically). The counter is deploying an FPV mounted Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP). It detonates at stand-off ranges and punches a dense metal slug straight through the targets armour. This will smash through most flimsy cages. I believe the AFU has deployed some of these but needs to build more EFP warheads.
A 'cheap and dirty' way of dealing with these may be an FPV double tap. The first FPV carries a 82mm mortar round or similar HE blast warhead with a wide detonator 'bar'. If hits a mesh or cage it explodes and rips a hole in the cage. An alternative may be a flying 'limpet' charge. The first FPV flies over the cage and drops a 2kg HE charge with a magnetic plate and a grenade fuse on to the top of the cage. As the charge falls away from FPV a cable on the drone it rips out the pin on the grenade detonator/fuse. 5 seconds later the charge blows and rips the 'cope cage' open. If you want to go really old school you could use a 'Saving Private Ryan'-style 'sticky bomb' with a grenade fuse if you don't have a magnetic anchor for the bomb.
With the cage ripped open you fly a second 'anti-armour' FPV inside and hit the AFV.
They can always disable one of the tracks.
The drone dropped anti-tank mines.
Jei, first time a long long time, notification actually works, Hi team, thank you Jonathan..

As a person who was in a Cav reg for Years and come across All the Russian equipment.Russians will always travel on the top of their vehicles as there APCs are virtually impossible to get out of.
The weight of a frame on an APC really is an issue and only a Tank has the suspension to hold a substantial structure like a cage . So if getting infantry to a spot is mission critical the tortoise tank is a feasible solution. The thing is they have no experienced soldiers left it’s not that bad if you lose a recruit he’s no different to the one waiting to replace him.
And that really is the biggest issue you can’t fight a modern combined arms offensive action with recruits it’s impossible
Good morning Jonathan and ATP team.
Have a great Friday 😊
So the turtle tank is actually the command tank cum the Armoured engineering vehicle.
The T 55 has a cast turret tank.and likely they don't need to put reactive armour on them.it is cheaper too.
Very smart. The main production focus can be maintained for T90 series.
Also they don't need to fit them with thermal imaging sights .which is expensive. Also that means that the risk of tank to tank combat is essentially non existent - may mean that Russian belive that Ukrainian tank force has been written down or withdrawn.
Time will tell.😊 cheers
Happy weekend Ansel ❤ 🌻

Hi 🔱 🤗
Great works Great days.
yes, the cages might work, but if everyone has to be real close to it, and with fresh shells coming. It's going to be pretty risky all being together in such a small space.
It’s a pity about the loss of the Bradleys, since they are very effective vehicles to have. One must expect losses.

Thank you It's all speculation at all levels from both sides. Even a soldier fighting on the front line will have an opinion based on his subjective experience. His mate 10 miles down the line could well have a completely different opinion. Objectivity is a very scarce commodity in a war. All you can do is report the situation based upon the info. you have at your disposal. Anyone who is participating in biased reporting, from either side, for whatever reason only further clouds the fog of war. Please continue your essential work Jonathan and don't refrain from giving your opinions because you always say that it's your personal opinion and may or may not actually be true. One of the advantages (a huge one) of a democracy is free speech. The right to have and state opinions even though they don't comply with a goverments party line.
16:28 that music and your reaction is priceless.
Thanks for the update Jonathan and team very comprehensive as usual

Would we be here if we minded long updates? Thank you for your continued effort Commander Pearce of the ATP Drone Army!
Well said Paul 🤜
You're loved
That is the first time someone calls MTLB a decent enough APC. This thing is utterly atrocious. It's not even a true APC but more of a tracked artillery towing traktor. It should tow a cannon and carry the artillery crew. All far away from the front lines. It has zero mobility, no firepower and no protection. It doesn't have space for human beings to stay inside.
Looking at its wide tracks and the flat top of the hull speaks volumes. "I'm slow. I'm unarmed. I can carry a multi-rail rocket launcher."
Not modernized old BVP1 is a blast compared to this one.
Ref The Turtle Tanks. The Russians just want to get their troops from A to B on the battlefield, it is not about the fire power of the tanks.
Using them as transport?
Brilliant
Thank you.
The turtle tanks would then be a step back into the First World war, where you had the Sturmpanzerwagen A7V from the Germans. It could carry up to 25 soldiers in its hull.
But the A7V did not pretend to be anything more than it was.
These antidrone cages are very similar to the anti-deer cages that I have to put on my raised beds to stop them eating my veg and fruit
During WW2, the Canadian army developed the Kangaroo APC which was converted from surplus tank and SPG chassis
I think that the reason was that the British universal carrier wasn't very large or well protected and the US half track wasn't available in sufficient numbers
The could carry approx 10 soldiers
Thanks JP. Appreciate the update. Love your breakdown of the Ukrainian aid package. Great granular take. So, now that Russia is going all in on FPV protection, would you say this is a good time to take advantage of the lack of observation and mobility of these tanks? Completely jam drone signals and send in vehicles to directly confront these vehicles.
Hello! About your question of a drone strike by a jet, the answer is... Maybe.
I know, it's not a satisfying answer, but there's too many variables here.
Scenario 1- drone goes into a jet intake... This will almost certainly cause catastrophic engine failure. Best case for the airplane is that they limp home on one working engine, worst case, little pieces of disintegrating engine go ripping through other critical components, causing sudden and catastrophic damage to the airframe.
Scenario 2- drone hits wing leading edge ("front" of wing, for you non-aviation people out there). Assuming the drone *isn't* carrying a weapon, a small quad-copter will likely shatter, but cause minor wing damage. Might keep the plane down for repairs for a little while. If this was a larger "baba yaga" or a fixed-wing drone, however, this could cause some severe damage.
Scenario 3- drone strikes canopy. This will not likely go well for the pilot. 'nuff said.
There's a million variations on what could happen, but the long and short of it is this - the physical damage will be relatively light, but if that damage is done to a critical system, the aircraft is doomed. Most places in a given airplane are not particularly critical, however.
As for your question about the "wind deflecting the drone away," that happens to a certain point, but I've seen enough bird strikes to disprove that particular hypothesis.
Thanks, as always for your excellent coverage on this conflict. I hope this helps!
Legend
Excellent synopsis
@@ATPGeo There are drones that are designed for use at civilian airports. For example, ones intended to check for ice accumulation on aircraft in line for takeoff. Those are designed entirely with lightweight materials that will harmlessly disintegrate on contact with a 50 year old Cessna.
Alternatively, a drone can carry large pieces of tungsten that are shaped such that they will destroy any jet engine that ingests them.
@@hamjudo or an RPG, BOOM, bye bye
As a former Infantryman l would not want to be riding on an obsolete tank covered in corrugated iron into battle. Once the Ukrainians are resupplied with ATGMs and cluster ammunition, those things are toast.
Thanks for serving ❤ 🔱
On cages:
-I note that on one vehicle, one side has chicken wire, the other has bedsprings.
So, whether good or bad, your statement 'desperation' seems confirmed.
-My view is that (if well done), it can give a trade of one advantage for a number of other disadvantages.
Like access for maintenance, loading/unloading, entering/exiting, vision and ability to move, store or hide.
If for instance, that truck needs to go into the workshop, the door had better be high enough, and the shop empty.
If you need to relocate to another sector, you might not be able to pass another vehicle on the road, and if the turtle manoevers, better stay far away, it's big, powerful, and almost blind.
Drones piece's can get in to the jet engine and blow up the engine, this is more common with bird collisions. Many airports are built near where birds collect and avary sanctuaries. They can make jet's crash.
Hi team! @jp re your question on the jet hitting the drone, the jet would be destroyed if it hit the drone. Birds have caused many crashes in aviation, and birds are very light and soft!
As always, thank you for your service 🫡🇺🇦🇬🇧🇮🇪
I'm not an expert by any stretch but the Su-25 should be kinda thick as it is meant to attack ground targets. I'm sorry if I mislead someone. There is a high chance I don't understand something.
Not T55. Blyattanks have 6 wheels.
Barrel lumps look like T64
07:36 I find myself wondering how these will perform in summer heat...cooked rather than cooked off perhaps...🤔
Morning John, I fear that the eastern front is collapsing.
With regard to the Russian SU 25 mid-air collision or near miss, the worst case would be the ingestion of the Mavic into an engine intake. That could be catastrophic. Beyond that, the SU in question is a pretty tough plane. However, even bird strikes are dangerous for planes, and a Mavic would be comparable to most in size and weight. I was impressed at the drone's ability to remain stable in that situation, nonetheless. Some fascinating footage there.

a claymore on a fpv and the orcs are soup under the tin roof
Their adaptations are grasps at straws. These sad defensive cages keep being put out to solve a problem that is waving a stick at a bird. Neither side has a great answer, but the answer is again innovation looking at the problem backward. Screening in 2 ways that doesn't involve silly cages, but does involve more tech and people to operate. So Russia will not be able to get past this but Ukraine with more imagination and change in tactics will.
If you destroy the lead turtle it becomes a road block. Not impressed with the cages as anything with hooks can hang off it.
If the russians wash their clothes, it would make a good drying rack 🤷♀️
exactly same as bird strike on an airliner, sucked in engine destruction
and birds dont carry RPG warheads
So I just learned or re-found out that the US has at least 2 Aegis Ashore Batteries, 1 in Poland & 1 in Romania! Loaded with all SM-3 for Ballistic Defense! So now I really do not understand why we cannot come up with 10 or 20 Patriot systems?!?!? Like WTF! Each System contains 8 VLS Cells and 3 Batteries per system. Why are we not building shit like this in Ukraine!!! I really totally forgot about the System! Kinda on the Newer side of systems...
Drone being struck by fighter, my thoughts. The battery on a drone is heavy and dense. This coming into contact with any part of the plane or pilot will cause serious damage. If sucked into/impacts an engine then end of that engine. If it is carrying a bomb then no chance for plane.
Toodle-pips, Jonathan! 🥰

@@surpriseitsus9622 Awwww mannnnnnn
There was an incident at an airshow where a Russian jet sucked up a bird, the engine cut out, and the airman ejected, and the jet crashed. I think if the drone hit any other part of the plane and the jet would be fine
Maybe not the canopy.
@@davinki2885 ya, and maybe some jets would take more damage than others. Carbon fiber leading edges would probably crack or shatter where aircraft aluminum would only dent
@ATP food for thought: We have seen the Russian artillery being hit hard. Where in the beginning Msta-Bs where being hit everywhere, now even with all the artillery being hit (40 a day) it is less and less. Their main artillery when attacking is being replaced by the glide bomb.
It can be the are stocking for artillery, of the which the ammo factory is still producing, but in the field, there are few. Like the Msta-B.
Remember we see the D20/D30 being hit regularly. This is a very, very old (1955/1960) artillery piece and fairly short range (operating within drone range). A piece you would certainly NOT want to use in a conflict (if you didn't had to).
... *_supplemented by glide bombs_* ...
I have heard various military analysts and tank experts state how tanks remain a vital component of a modern battlefield. Almost simultaneously, Abrams tanks have been withdrawn from the front lines in Ukraine due to their vulnerability to drones. These points are highly contradictory.
I have to defend the blyatmobile - if it works, it works.
It is useful when the main reason how Russians advance are not armoured breakthroughs but infantry ones. Just being able to drop off a squad unharmed to a destination is relevant and I wouldn't be surprised if Ukrainians do something Similar for their eventual offensive. The frontal vehicle is also ma ned with EW. Remember they also tried this few months ago with only EW and no armour. Now with armour they seem to have success.
Ukraine needs a lot of portable AA and AT equipment and artillery to combat these.
1. It doesn't work. The tank is blind except for straight ahead. The turret cannot turn. Sheet metal does not stop even a hand grenade.
2. As a troop delivery vehicle, it fails as well. No troops are ever seen exiting in the available videos. Exhaust fumes are mostly trapped inside the shed leading to toxic carbon monoxide build up. Any slip and the troops are guided under the treads.
3. If the vehicle hits a mine, the blast will rip the shed off and kill the troops. Sheet metal will not protect, but it will limit movement.
@@sirsmeal3192 All true, but given that literally any vehicle will be disabled when they run over a mine or get hit by a FPV then it is still a viable strategy to have a literal "tank" in front to guide the column. We can say and discuss how stupid it looks or is, but it seems to work somehow.
What is the vehicle in western arsenal that would be equivalent and could be used in abundance?
If the dumb vehicle is in the front and ensures that the column is somewhat protected from mines.. then it is a big advantange already. I bet this would have been also very useful when Ukrainians did their counter-offensive last summer, no?
I'd also like to add that of course this isn't viable if you want to advance 10km, but if we are discussing about advancing 1-2km then it is a different perspective. Using broken tanks for that purpose - i mean, why not.
@17:24 ... that would have been like a Bird Stike with a Bomb included ... That aircraft would have been no more ... that pilot was damned lucky
Yes a drone could take out a plane if it’s sucked into the engine. Please note I said “could”. Passenger aircraft jet engines found on large commercial planes are tested with frozen chickens shot into them. But frozen chickens are not steel, so it depends on the drone and if its carrying any munitions and if that munition is then triggered. I’d actually say the jet missed the drone by a lot, or it was photoshopped footage. The air displacement by a jet is considerable… think of the shed I. The latest topgun movie.
👋
If the Drone was to get sucked into the Air Intakes on both sides of the fusalog, would certainly cause problems and very well could take one down! It be hard unless it is heavy enough, which that drone seemed heavy enough. But if the jet just crashed into it without it getting sucked into it's intakes, it would probably destroy the drone and do nothing to the Jet. It have to go inside the Engine, and those intakes are right up front almost on each side of the Pilots seat!
At min 25, the intact fallen UAV. Imagine if that was the Taurus missile. That´s the fear of Germany i guess.
60 MM mortar, switch to instead of drone.
have the drones lay or be a mine to cripple it
Algo
15:23 turtle working BECAUSE NOT STAY RPG JAVELIN AND COMPANY PLUS A ARTILLERY 155 MM. OR TURTLE WITH 155 MM CAN only burn
Remember ww1 tanks that didn't exhaust the fumes from the engine and the crews got sick from riding inside? I wonder if these Russian turtle tanks keep the exhaust in or away from the crew? I ask this because the back has been sealed to keep out drones, and that's where the tailpipe of the tank is
Inside. Most Russian tanks exhaust from the sides above the tracks and these sheet metal cope cages go down over the tracks.
If the drone was ingested into the engine it is game over for the jet. It will loose one engine very fast.
You cannot judge distance from a video. It depends on the x power of the drone camera. The drone may have been a mile from that jet and probably was, there's no way a close pass by a jet wouldn't have caused severe movements of air and the drone.
I found the German ministers comments very odd.
Do not see extended exhaust pipe…hmmmm
Exactly.
The Russian tanks are not in good state. Take one that has a jammed turret and making it into a troop transport with anti-drone equipment makes sense to me.
A parade of captured Ukrainian equipment will just show how rubbish Russian stuff is.
😂
Would expect the done would total the jet if it went in an engine. Otherwise, i don't know.
From civil aviation it seems that hitting a drone is comparable to a bird strike. So if you hit the engine there may or may not be a problem (unless the drone carries explosives ofc). Not an expert though.
18:17 if Mavic have a MUNITIONS Anti tank mine as BABAYAGA I think SU 25 dropping on field
Could the Ukrainian Air Force be adding man pads to drones to take down planes inside Russia. If you keep hinting its S200 Russia is looking the other way for the cause.

Artillery is at about 20% remaining for the Russians. That will not be the best of the last pieces. On the other hand some systems will have been repaired. All together this is the last year of Russias artillery.
Meanwhile, their shell production is up to 3 million a year. All internal - no more shoddy North Korean shells.
@sirsmeal3192 Target 3 m or achieved? Could be achieved if they release 8000 shells per day. It is totally different than the 60.000 per day they were shooting in the first year.

Since no civilians are allowed on the Square to watch, it would be a "clean" military target of Russia's best equipment.

Lol both T34s they have left
The scenery has been digitally reduced/simplified. The camera movements have no natural dynamics, the jet is farcically unrealistic, and the drone wouldn't wobble, it would spin helplessly and possibly overturn by the draught from something that size speed and proximity.
Other than that is just so realistic isn't it
Yes no wake turbulence at all!
And good morning mate
Storage depletion: When these commentators say “depleted” do they mean going to zero. So 921 MTLBs, are we calculating the days to get to zero? I think we shouldn’t. Russia can’t afford to go to zero on all these categories- surely it needs a minimum stock?
Especially since they expect to go to war with NATO soon.
i dont think its possible for a jet to pass that close to a drone without taking it down or turning it upside down . the wash off one of those jets is crazy insanly powerful .. it has to be fake or maybe the lens is at full zoom to give you the impression its close but the reality is its really far away... just my humble opinion
