    Ooh, nice haul of butternut squash! I love the colour of young lettuces, so vibrant. I have sweet potato envy, I definitely need to grow some next year!

      First time growing both! I don't know about Wales but it's challenging to grow either here. Yay for undercover growing :)

    First video I've seen of yours and I'm impressed. That greenhouse is awesome and you implemented plenty of amazing ideas. I will have to cover up a well pipe, then raised beds inside the greenhouses will be next.

      I didn't notice :) I am mighty pleased with them though -- not too bad for an understory crop!

    Wonderful squash! Never grown them but will definitely try next year. I wish I could afford a Polycrub, such a great space for plants. Loved the vlog as always Tanya.

      You can make a similar structure with cattle fencing, metal stakes and some scrap wood. Minimum cost would be about $150-$200. For a similar sized space to the one shown, cost would about $300-$350, with main cost being the plastic covering. Growing about 150-300lbs of produce (depending on the produce) will essentially pay for the structure through food savings (doesn’t include cost of fertilizer/compost input or time cost). Not to mention the added nutrient density from home grown fresh food, as well as the satisfaction from a successful season. Definitely worth it if you have some spare time

    Very interesting Tanya and well done on all your yummy produce! Just out of interest as I'm clearing out my greenhouse currently what do you do with all the plants you are discarding? I'm tempted to compost but not too sure. And I have a used growbag too. Can I reuse it for lettuces? Had bottle squash in it.

    Great update! Butternut squash soup! Are the wasps still hanging around the Polycrub?

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They disappeared I'm July! I think it got too hot for them and they left. A big spider lives in the wasp nest now.

    The issue I made a mistake with was overwatering lettuces in the greenhouse border in autumn and winter, I have refrained from watering as much this time and not overhead watering the leaves so much, just near the base of the lettuce and less often in colder weather. Also it is tempting to want to close the doors up all winter, but doing that you end up with mouldy lettuces! without any airflow through the greenhouse or polytunnel.

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good point -- it's important to maintain good aeration, and sensible moisture levels at all times but especially winter.

    How cold does it typically get in your area in winter? I can't imagine anything staying warm enough to survive where I am even in a shelter like the polycrub.

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It usually doesn't dip below 2⁰C (35⁰F) in winter here. Not warm enough for most crops to truly grow from December to February but hardy types can overwinter undercover and give late/early crops. For colder places you'll need to use additional strategies -- too many to list here.

    • @justinburch
      @justinburch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Lovelygreens Thank you replying. I seriously considered a high tunnel for my yard but we're on the boundary between the temperate zone and the sub polar zone so we regularly see -40C in December January and February. I ended up deciding it was not going to benefit me much and, with regret, I did not buy the high tunnel. Instead two smaller greenhouses with the ability to be heated in late spring and early fall to extend my season. I envy you that lovely winter climate! I also very much enjoy your videos. My wife and daughter make your lovely soaps.

    Whats the advantage of having polycrub instead of glass covered greenhouse? Does it make it warmer inside? Thank you.

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more resilient to wind, is double-paned, so warmer in winter, and the plastic shell can last more than thirty years.

    Would you say you had less pest problems inside polycrub than outside?

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Less pest issues by far. I did have wasps in the Polycrub this year which will have helped with eating things like caterpillars. Hoping wasps help me out next year too!

    Hello Tanya Lovely Greens. I have two small glass grow houses i use for Dwarf tomatoes . They are both empty now. So i think i will try grow some Lettuce from seed . Is it too late to grow lettuce from seed. I know i could look on packet or on internet for info . But as i am watching your vid i thought ahh well Ask Tanya . 😊 Thanks .

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on where you live and how cold it is/will get. I could probably squeeze in a last sowing but folks in places that are experiencing frosts and freezes already should wait for spring.
