- I bring you another “What’s In Bloom” for the month of January 2024. The very first of the year and it’s already starting with a bloom explosion. Usually this is the season the blooms slow down a bit. Even though it does not compare for what Spring and Simmer bring, this season did not disappoint. Come along as I give you a tour. Plus I show what my new orchid projects are all about, and some new orchid events announcements. #orchidcare #floridalife #flowers #cattleya #orchidshow #plants ##blooms #flowers
I enjoy your "What's in Bloom" so much, thank you.
Thank you so much. It’s my favorite of all my videos to film. 💚

Thank you love. 🙏🏼
Wow great looking plants pretty yard enjoyed the video ty for sharing
💚
Thanks Nelson for the video, very interesting and love watching your tube videos.
Thank you💚
Nelson here's a tip for your vanda and phal flowers how to make them look better for display, with your vandas push the center of the flower petals so they cup towards you and it makes them perfect the same with your phals but only with the top centre petal and that is what you do before you put it in a orchid show for a better display try it and see what you think thanks again for your videos Mitch from Australia 🇦🇺.
Thanks Mitch. Julien beat you to it. Lol! He actually showed me that trick last year at the Apopka fair. It does make the flower look more robust and plump. I loved it when I saw him do it. I went back to my greenhouse afterwards and did it to all my Vandas. Lol! 🤣 Thanks for the info. 👍🏼
Nelson you definitely keep it green. Beautiful healthy orchids a result of your loving care. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!💚
Nelson, all your hard work shows in your blooms. Another awesome video. I am waiting for the mid 70’s and less wind. You should be very proud of your collection.
Thank you💚 I am very proud of my collection. 🙏🏼
Thank You Nelson for always sharing the best, you have a special gift! 💖🌸
Thank you Sabrina. 🫶🏼

Nelson you have the most beautiful orchids, takes my breath away. Love the project you did, was waiting to see what you did. Haven’t seen the kittys in a while. Thank you for showing us your collection .💚💚
Well the kitties now all hang out in the front. At night the like to go to the back and hang out with me. Who gets them. Lol!!!!🐈🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛
I really enjoy your backyard ✊🏽
Thank you so much!👍🏼
Love, love your beautiful orchids! Thanks for sharing, your are the best🤗🌺❤️
Thank you so much
AWSOME! And, by the way, congratulations on reaching over 10K subscribers 👏👏👏😍
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼💚
Hi Nelson I love your videos and i really enjoy them all. You have a natural talent to move your camera, I never get dizzy...just one little thing, the plant you called a Dendrobium cobbianum, is actually a Dendrochilum cobianum, confusing namegiving i know and i hope you don't feel offended. i wish you keep on doing what you are doing so well. All the best Andy
Awesome, thank you! I really appreciate your feedback. As far as the Dendrobium goes, I do know that but my brain can’t say Dendrochilum. Lol! I’m a weird learner. Some things I learn really quick like sesquipedale. I learned that word like a pro in no time. Most people have trouble with that word. 🤷🏻♂️
@@naturenel May be you are a weird learner, but all together a great guy...i do hope to see and hear from you in the near future. Thanks a lot❤
Good tip about tamarind wood. There's a tamarind tree in our garden too and I'm going to use that wood.I also read somewhere that star apple wood is widely used for mounts in Phillipines.
Happy to have shared the tamarind wood idea. I love that wood and it’s texture. I’ll look into the apple wood. Thank you!👍🏼
Wow Nel!! The laem sing and the paths blew me away in this video. What is it about the orchid not being available that makes you have to have it!! 🎉
It’s the fact that you can’t get it that entices you to want it even more. Laem Sing are absolutely amazing Vandocostylis. Some day I’ll get more. 🙏🏼
i can't get enough of your garden, you were born to do youtube, or should i say be an influencer and collect orchids. your voice, your look, your videography, your organization, yep a natural!! i bet you take your hair just as serious, if not more so. thank you always!!
You are making me blush! Please don’t stop! Lol! Thank you so much. That truly feels good to hear. When doing these videos I sometimes get in my head. I want to make sure I give you guys valid information and help other orchid people excel in their collections. Yes I take my hair and anything I put my mind to very seriously. As my mom would say I was a little old man trapped in a boys body. Thank you for your beautiful comments. 🙏🏼💚🫶🏼
I feel your statement on the angraecum. I bought a mounted angraecum didieri for my orchidarium, and it’s so sensitive to getting water on the leaves! It’s lost a couple to bacteria/fungus already.
Try you best to water the base only. Also spray fungicide on it a couple of times if you see fungus developing.
Nelson your orchid collection is OUTSTANDING and your ideas 💡 on how to display your dendrobiums on your orchid tower is inspirational 👏 but just one thing is that you could place a pot stand under your pots so you get good air flow around your pots and moisture doesn't rot your decking boards , keep it up you are becoming a orchid professional well done SIR until next time 👍 Mitch from Australia.
I think the same way - I always put bricks - stones - or rocks …. under the pots …. to have some air for the plants drain well.
@@tuyetvo4353 thanks for your comment it's so true the better the drainage of your pots the better the plants 🪴 will grow. What types of orchids do you grow?
Everything is in lava rock now. Their is plenty of drainage on the towers. 👍🏼
I appreciate all your feedbacks. Thanks guys. 🫶🏼
Omg nelson you jungle are amazing ❤❤❤❤lovely
Thank you!
Hi Nelson Everything is very beautiful 😍you take great care ;congratulations 👏👏👏😍🌱🌱🌱🌱
Thank you. 💚
P.S I loveeeee your long videos!
I love that you love them. 🫶🏼
Las d do😂 your such a happy man
🤗
And handsome!
Beautiful as always Nelson 🎉🎉🎉❤
💚
Absolutely incredible what's in bloom! Thank you Nelson for taking us along to view your amazing beauties!
Thank you Curlene. Wait till you see the next what’s in bloom. You’re gonna love it. What is opening new is really nice. 🤩
@@naturenel Ohh I can't wait!!!!!
Your place is getting more and more beautiful. Soon, you will have to charge admission fees, like a botanical garden. Congratulations 🎊 👏
Lol! That’s the running joke here. Charging admission. 😂
What a show!! Even then foliage looks good.
Thanks PC!🙏🏼
Hello Nelson, as usual, I am in AWE of your amazing collection! 👏. I also love what you did with the projects you kept secret from us. I think you could do the same with tomato cages on a smaller scale! ❤❤❤
I am impressed with your what’s in bloom. I have watched it again. I have 2 questions. What do you give to your phals to get them to spike so much. Mine grows big and few spikes
I am am in south Florida. When you cut the mokara/aranda orchid what do you put on the cuttings so it can root and not rot. My mokara and arandas are extremely tall and I need to cut them. I want to ensure with guidance I tried it. ❤🙏I love long videos. No,problem.
Thank you so much! Yes tomato cages would probably work well for smaller Dendrobiums. The large cane Dendrobiums will grow
out of the tomato cage in no time.
Omg Nelson I love all your blooms I have a paph for some years now have not blooms since I bought it
Paphiopedilums do that sometimes. My Mount Toro took about 3 years and now is when it blooms. I believe I got that Paph right at the beginning of my channel. That’s why you should have allot of Paphs so something blooms all the time. 😉👍🏼💚
Beautiful video as usual. Gorgeous blooms. I like your new concept. Thanks for sharing the idea of how you put the styrofoam in the pots to make them lighter. I usually put stones and charcoals which make my pot heavy. I always learn something new each time I looked at your videos. Thank you so much. You are so selfless, always sharing everything that you knew or heard off.Happy Growing and all success on your orchid journey. ❤ and 🙏.
Awe! Thank you so much for your kind words. Im so happy that information helped out. I knew that explaining the styrofoam inside topped with lava rock would be of help to some of you out there. Thanks for that validation. 🫶🏼
Nelson, in your landscape you have orchids in several pots that are full of holes. Do you ever get wasps making their nests in those pots, or do you not have wasps and hornets in your area? In my north Arkansas yard I have to make sure any lawn ornament has no openings where the wasps can enter and make a home. So the nasties go on the house eaves or into the ground, and must be sprayed to kill them. Their stings are very painful. Another great video!
Oh thank God no! We don’t have that issue here. We have wasps but they do their mud nest up high.
Hola Nelson tu jardín siempre está bello ❤❤
Gracias!💚
wow, taking good care of your orchids definitely paid off!!!!
👍🏼👍🏼🤩
Great blooms and keep it green 💚💚
Thanks Michael!👍🏼
Hi . I could watch your videos forever :) I live in San Francisco and so the climate is very different. I collect orchids for over 20 years. At some point I had a greenhouse . Now some of my orchids that I absolutely adore are in a nursery . I gave the rest of my collection away. The reason for it is that I am moving to Costa Rica . Would you know about any nursery in Florida especially selling Vandas that ships to Costa Rica?
Thank you Lukas. I appreciate you. 🙏🏼 Nurseries in Florida rarely ship outside the US. But Costa Rica is known for their amazing orchids. I’m sure you will have a feild day collecting orchids there. And possible orchids you don’t see here. Hope your new endeavors bring you abundance of orchids. 🤗
I'm enjoying the show Nelson😌🙏💞Got to watch the rest later, on my way to work.
Glad to hear. I’ve been busy with lots of filming. More to come!🤩
Hi Nelson ☺️it's nice to see your new video and of course your massive orchid collection, by the way where can I buy orchids books that is useful and lots of information, thanks God bless 👌
I would start with books by Dr. Motes. He’s got so much knowledge on growing orchids. Also if you join the AOS (American Orchid Society), every month you receive their amazing color magazine with tons of information on all types of orchids. It’s one of the best resources on orchids out there. And thirdly…Google! I get some of my growing tips on Google search. 👍🏼
Beautiful blooms
Thank you!💚
OMG!!! The Paph Mount Toro is strikingly gorgeous 😍. Hopefully I can find one and the dendro samurai too at the Redland show that’s coming May 16-19 weekend. Thanks for sharing your beautiful blooms😍
OMG thank you so much for mentioning these dates. I live in CA and this is the show I really wanna go to! My vacation plan for work has to be in by the end of the month and I was able to add this weekend for vacation. Thank you Thank you!
I promise it will be one of the best vacation experiences you’ll ever have as an orchid lover. These shows are so unique to their platform. It’s Disney for orchid people. So happy to hear my announcements to the upcoming shows are helping you shape your next vacation. Awesome!🤩🤩🤩
Thanks!
Thank you so much! 💚🫶🏼🙏🏼
Hi Nelson. How do you ‘tie’ your vandas to your trees? I don’t have any in my collection…..yet…. but was just wondering in case I get one in the near future. 😊 Thank you. I love all your videos.
Hey Gloria. I use tomato tape. You can get it t Home Depot.
Hi Nelson great blooms. Were is the yellow cat that always accompanied you in the videos
Thank you. Morris the orange tabby cat has been mostly next door. It turns out I have more cats staying in my yard. Morris does not like any other cat. So he leaves back home to the neighbor. But he does come by to eat here and there.
Nelson , Christmas cacti are triggered into bloom by short days . That is why they didn't bloom in your apartment , it was the artificial light they were getting.
Oooooh! That’s makes all the sense in the world.
I think the red orchid by your Red Dragon is another arachnis only without stripes. I wish my striped arachnis (Maggie Oie sp?) would bloom. I'm in NE FL, but still. It's 6 years old. My Red Dragon's bloomed :(
Try cutting a cane. I cut most of the canes on my Arachnis on my tree. I usually get new growth from the canes and out of that new growth I get a spike. If you have several canes, test one or two first. Plus make sure it’s getting sun. If you have it in shade or smi shade, slowly acclimate it to full sun. It needs sun to bloom. Be sure that there is plenty of root growth where you cut so that the top and bottom both produce new keikis.
Hello Nelson, from Tampa I always enjoy your beautiful collection, can you give me the information of the guy who sold the Holcoglossum kimbaliana vanda…. very grateful 🤗
Thank you so much. I got that at BL Orchids and Maintenance. That’s how you find him on Facebook. His name is Bernard. Tell him I sent you. He’s super nice.
A mi me relaja mucho.
I liked your new creations Nelson. Beautiful blooms as always. What media do you use for your Paphs.? I grow mine indoor and I'm thinking of trying it outdoor but so scare of moving them outside. I'm in So-Cal.
It may be too dry and hot outdoors for your Paphs. Best thing to do is buy an inexpensive Paph and test it. Mine do great outdoors cause it’s super humid. In the summer sometimes I bring them under the terrace area I use all sorts of medium. I even think no 2 Paphs have the same medium. I would use something that holds moisture but has good drainage. Put styrofoam packing bits at the bottom of pot. Then add a medium like cattleya mix but add some sponge rock. That may work well. There is so many factors. That’s why it’s important to purchase an inexpensive orchid when you want to test them in your environment as well as when trying new feeds.
Thank you Nelson. They have been doing well for me indoor. I will try your tips and see how it goes.
Hi Nel, my Renanthera red dragon lost the top due to crown rot. Does it still have shot or is it a goner?
Because it grows the roots up the cane, it may shoot a keiki off the side of that cane. I would give it a chance to see if it shoots one. 🤞🏼Im taking a guess. I do know my Arachnis does do that. So give it a try and keep me posted.
@@naturenel sounds good :) it’s worth a shot 🤞
