Had a friend who had their chainring and chain get messed up by the chairlift and this video assures me that he’s not a idiot if it’s happening to everyone
Oh man, that sucks!! Def not an idiot. I hear that bikes with really long wheelbases can have that happen. I haven’t actually seen the chainring or bleed port issues happen in person but have heard that it is a real issue. Hopefully the fix is put in quickly. Thanks for the comment and heads up.👊
Yes, we mountain bikers are a dramatic bunch but I also think you shouldn't have to worry about your bike being damaged using the lift system. There is most likely differences in the tire support spacing etc and how it was mounted to the chair system here that is causing real problems, not dramatic fake ones. They'll get it sorted though.
From what I understand, they received the new 8 seater chair when it was purchased for another Vail property that could then no longer put it in so they brought it here. To increase uphill capacity they bought the bike carriers that go on the back of each chair. The old system, the bikes actually took up a chairs spot on the cable with no people so this way every chair has bikes and people. It has essentially always been Zone 5 of Aline from what I know, though there used to be an iconic feature called the GLC Drop in the last step ups place. Thanks for the questions.
I have not seen it happen or had it happen, but my understanding from my conversation is that some forks have the bleeder valves on the back, that valve can be supporting the bike in the cradle and depressed/opened the whole chair ride and can start leaking fluid in certain circumstances. Again, just have been told it is something they are working on a fix for, I have not seen that one happen.
@@RidingThruLife makes sense. I wasn’t sure if you meant a bleed port on the brake caliper or the air bleeder. I noticed last week it looked like the bikes swing down pretty hard onto that part of the fork
Ha, I think that was the 3rd of the night and one was in my backyard before I went to the park. They are my absolute fave but you do get used to them. lol Thanks for the comment.
You would think a company like doppelmayer would have been able to simulate every bike in software before designing this stupidity. I’m told my xl v10 is too big to load on the back. Not vails fault per se, it’s that good quality employees are hard to find anymore. Not sure where they all went
There does seem to be a few massive oversights. The only thing I can hope, and am told they are working on, is solutions to the problems. Wow, it has to be sideloaded? I have an XL Tues but it is a few years old so maybe the wheel base is not as long. Thanks for the comment.
@@RidingThruLife mine’s a 2021. I loaded it on the back many times last week but when some of the engineering staff (or whatever they were) were out looking at things they told me to side load because it was too long and the mainstay was hitting. Easy fix would be to raise that rack up the back of the lift two or three inches and/or some rubber on the metal at the bottom where the nylon brushes are.
Ahhh, I see. I cannot comment on the actual fix as it hasn't happened yet but you are not far off what I understand. Bring down and widen/thicken the bottom support so the tire has a larger surface to hit for different sized wheelbases and then bring it out so the bike doesn't swing down and in as much keeping the forks just off the cradle. We'll see.
How are the trails still in such horrible condition? There are holes in the ground in places that have been there for years and likewise with braking bumps. $100/day for that? Embarrassing, and thats not mentioning the chair issues...
The conditions were actually prime for opening on every open trail. Then we had torrential rain plus thousands of riders at the busiest bike park in the world and bingo, soft mud to bumps. The chair issues....... well, thats a whole other conversation that hopefully gets dealt with faster than the bumps. Thanks for the comment.
@@RidingThruLife we have very different definitions of "prime". I saw conditions opening day. Heart of Darkness, for example, looks just as shit as ever. A Line still has large rips in the surface. They don't fix anything.
Maybe we do have different definitions, the only section of Aline that was open on opening day was Zone 5 and it had been totally buffed, every lip had been shaped to start the day, they had to, it went a totally different way last year. Same with Heart. They actually totally reshaped a section on Heart and it was all new dirt/lips heading into the trees at the bottom. Were you here? It got smashed pretty quick but a shovel had hit both trails you are talking about. Maybe I get too excited but when they reshape and pack everything I call it Prime.
You would think the engineers would have thought about the things you mentioned… glad to hear that they’ll be addressing them though
I think there were some oversights........lol But yes, stoked they are being addressed. Thanks for the comment

There were engineer folks mulling around and taking notes on Thursday afternoon.
That’s great to hear Thanks for the heads up
Friendly reminder that the chairlift at the best bikepark in the world is worse than every single one I’ve ever tried in Europe…
Oh man, thanks for the reminder. 😂
No it’s the exact same lift in chatel Les gets avoriaz super morzine 😂 yous are just dramatic

I saw the memes but didn’t get the full story, that stinks! Hope to make it up this year🤘🏻🙏🏻
Ya, lots of memes made this year! They will get it sorted. Get here and come for a shred! Thanks for the comment
A couple questions. Why did they change the bike carriers? And that lowest section of A-line what was it originally called?
I assume to get more people up the mountain faster. rather than swap out every other chair for bikes.

Fade to Blue on Cat’s Meow
Totally looks like a training/practice feature for FTB
Great video! Hope to see you at men’s night again
Hey Afian!!! Thank you and yep, I am signed up for all sessions. Starting Tues. See you there.
Can you fill me in on the bleed port issues? Which brakes were having issues

@@JeremyFacer ahh yes, sorry, fork not caliper. Ya, they def come down with some force. We'll see what the solution is......

Awesome sauce. 😊.
Thanks Leo. We'll move on to some saucier trails now to spice it up.

Put some pool noodles onto the bar to stop chainring bash.
Pool Noodles are kinda like duct tape, so many uses!!!
