    Great response to a question I’ve had forever! My question is when you play different games, for example Deuces Bonus Wild vs Double Double bonus, do the chances of certain cards getting dealt change based on that game being played? Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been dealt the huge payoff hand if I was just playing the other game I just switched from. Whether I get 4 aces or 4 deuces, I always seem to be playing the wrong game! 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Thank you for your comment and question!
      No. The odds of receiving the card you hope for does not change because of the VP variant. The overall probability of getting certain winning hands might be different between variants, but only because of the difference in strategy. I’ll explain in further detail in a future video. 🙂

    Thanks Mike for explaining how RNG works, my question is there one RNG and one deck of cards for all the games especially on multi game machines ?

    • @ClubMikeV
      @ClubMikeV  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The purpose of the RNG is to pick the deal and draw cards at random from a range of options. In most video poker games, there are 52 of these options, 1 for each card in the deck. However, some games have 53-card decks in the case of Joker Poker. So basically, there is one RNG for the whole machine, but the range of options it can choose from can be different depending on the game and composition of the deck. Hope this makes sense. 👍

    Thank you so much. Been wondering the same thing.. now my question is how the double or nothing on some of the video poker game online? When you hit yes the computer show you 5 cards, one facing up and 4 facing down... does the computer really gives you 5 cards or just one card?

    Thanks Mike! That was a clear and concise video. It would be interesting to see how the RNG changes between games like double double and triple double or if it even has to change? I sometimes go back to your other videos for review before going to Pechanga in San Diego. Your videos have been very helpful, but would love to see you play in real life at a casino to see your results. I know that video poker is still a game of luck, some days will always be better then others, but it is one of the few games where you have a choice on strategy. Thanks again for all of your help!

    Hi Mike, I always watch your poker videos, because I am a video poker programmer, in fact, I have created variants of every kind of poker like Double Double, Jacks or Better, etc. but I have not published them yet.

    The random part doesn't seem random. If you play jacks or better vs say duce's wild, you'll see a huge variation of the new cards that you've discarded or even the hands you're first dealt between the versions of the games. If it's truly random you shouldn't see any variations. Also the different games like extra draw frenzy where you need 3 of the same cards to get the bonus rarely come up but if you play a different game with no bonus it'll come more often. That shouldn't happen if it's truly random.

    On occasion I will get one or more of my discard cards back, sometimes in the same spot. How does this happen? They shouldn't be in the shuffle/deal.

    • @ClubMikeV

      It’s not possible. Unless the game you are playing is not true video poker, but rather a class 2 bingo/pull tab machine disguised as video poker.

    At 4:31 your example starts (before save) with 5C, 5D, 10H, 9H, 2D. After you hold the two 5's you save the hand to memory. When you load your save it comes back: 5C, 5D, "10S, 9S, 2D". Wouldn't a saved hand to memory be reloaded the same exact way? If so then how can we trust the new outcome with the pair of K's to be true if your program (which is different from actual casino video poker programs) cant even reload saved hands properly? Not putting your info down, just wondering if you noticed what I noticed with the reload of save point.

      The ten and nine are still hearts, not spades. There is a graphical glitch whenever you load a save. Notice that the hearts are black.

    RNG does not shuffle cards. It will pick random slots to deal. When you discard, the discarded card(s) goes back in the deck and the RNG picks the required number of slots to fill the empty spots. On occasion you get the same card you discarded. I have actually seen this happen. You are assuming it pulls cards from the top of the deck. With RNG there is no top of the deck.

    • @ClubMikeV
      @ClubMikeV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, mathematically it makes no difference whether the cards are dealt from the "top of the deck" or a different order. I know that with slots, the RNG generates random numbers even when the machine is not being played, so I assume that is also the case with video poker (the so-called "shuffle"). Not mentioned in this video, I have also found out an alternative method of replacing the discards, so the example shown is not the only way that the RNG can be programmed to deal out the cards.
      As for your claim on discarded cards, I have to disagree. I have never seen a card I discard reappear on the draw. Never in my entire life. Either you are seeing things or you are not playing a proper video poker machine.

That's Probably Why I Haven't Hit A Royal Flash, In My 5yrs Of Playing @ The Casino...🤦‍♂️

    I do not believe that this explanation is correct. From what I have read from experts on the workings of video poker, such as Bob Dancer, both the initial five cards, plus five replacement cards, are all selected when the hand is begun. According to them, there is no RNG/timing aspect for the draw action. However, there is a difference between older and newer machines in how the five replacement cards are used. In older machines, the five cards are "behind" the original dealt cards (parallel), and in newer machines, they come out sequentially replacing any cards that are discarded (serial).

    • @ClubMikeV
      @ClubMikeV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I did not mention this in the video, but I have seen the second method you describe in which the draw cards come out (serial). It was also on a Player's Edge Plus game (an international one). I need to do another experiment to confirm this. However both methods that you mention do not explain why in this video, I was able to get different replacements after using a save state to revert back to before the draw. Clearly in my example, the replacements are not selected when the hand began.
      In any case, I will be making a follow-up to this video. 👍

      @MrBrain4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ClubMikeV Oh, I missed that part, so perhaps I (or Bob Dancer) am mistaken! Possibly this is another difference based on the particular machine. It will be really interesting to see what you find next!
