  • This is a recipe I have tweaked over time and I hope you truly love it. There is nothing like homemade crusty bread.
    Rustic Artisan Dutch Oven Bread
    Ingredients:
    3 cups all purpose flour
    2 tsp kosher salt
    1 tsp yeast
1 1/2 cups very warm water (you should be able to dip your finger in the water)
I am using a 4 qt Dutch oven, but any size similar should work just fine.

I really can vouch for this method. I usually make a 200 gram loaf every other day. 50% whole wheat and 50% AP/bread flour. 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp yeast. For myself I like high hydration dough(100%). But doing the loaf on parchment in the dutch oven.... even I can do it. Which means it's pretty much fool proof. The Mrs likes the bread. Life is good. LOL

Simple. Easy. Hardest part is waiting for it to come out of the oven....

Your grandmother taught you right on measuring flour, I learned that at age 4, because I helped my Gram make baked goods for bakeries! Never measure over the mixing bowl ( except flour) because accidents can happen to the best of bakers.

How about using Self Rising flour? Can omit the salt, but use the yeast?? Please reply!

You use more yeast than other recipes with this type . I'm going to try it and raise overnight ⚘️⚘️⚘️

Nice video. I would suggest putting the dutch oven in the oven so it and the oven heat up in the first 30 minutes instead of waiting an hour to put the bread in.

Jenn, I like your presentation. My question is- the dough does not raise like yours. I use organic stone ground whole wheat flour. Can it be the reason? I would appreciate your input on this. I like the bread I make according to your recipe, but I wonder why I have this issue. Thank you.

It could be a number of things. I have never made this bread with all whole wheat so that very well may be the issue, it could be the temperature of where it's rising, or possibly your yeast.

Great video. I noticed the tobacco basket hanging on your wall. You don't sound it, but I'd guess you're from the South.

I have a 7 qt. dutch oven. Would that be too big to make this bread? Or would it make it more flat? Really don't want that! Thanks!

Since I’m diabetic, do you have anything like this in whole grain?

Jenn, new subscriber here. What size Dutch oven did you use? I think I can do this!

Just a quick tip: place salt on one side and yeast on the other. Salt can potentially kill yeast if it directly contacts. Mix them on opposite sides of the flour then mix everything together.

Is the parchment paper necessary or can I make this bread in my Dutch oven without it. Thanks 🙂

Just make sure to grease your Dutch oven really well. Should be fine!
