I'm a Dunedin surfer and have encountered boisterous sea lions many times. As that swimmer said the sea lion doesn't attack, just bluff and bluster. They could easily attack but they don't. I've had one mouthing my wetsuit booties but they don't bite. Basically they are teenagers wanting some fun. I've been spearfishing with bulls and they glide past like submarines checking you out. Never felt threatened.
The part with the weka was actually filmed up in Marlborough :) I never realised that they are rare down there. But yeah thinking about it now, I actually haven't seen any around Dunedin.
Great spot I don't know that area at all. That Sea Lion was a bit nuts I think! Lovely Rig I pull them out all summer like that they put up a great fight. Looking forward to the next episode.
It's a lovely spot mark as being born in Dunedin my grandfather he'd a crib or bach in wakawhite it's near karatane mate , awesome beaches when I was very young , cheers , shaneo, Nelson, 🍺👍

Great video my old home town Dunedin . Check out Karitane next time it's a relatively safe river bar 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide. No problems in the right conditions in your boat .We used to fish the weed beds opposite the red barn. Good Trumpeter and maybe still the odd blue Cod.

Thanks. That makes sense. I am considering the Aeroo Pro as it looks to be a nice combination of features vs price. What are your overall thoughts after spending some time with it please?
@@shanelangton4520 I think it's a pretty nifty drone. I only had the beta model for testing so far but once I get the final version, I'll make an in-depth review. The beta model has been really good already. A solid drone with good lifting capacity and strong motors. There were a few small issues with the compass calibration in the beta version but this is all fixed in the final release as far as I know. So I'm really keen on getting my hands on it.
You don't like to eat rig ? i love it but it is best deep fried fish & chips style & it does need to sit in a fridge for 24 hours before being deep fried but that is the same for all fish ,but man i would scoffed that rig down yum yum .
We love eating rig as well. We usually only keep the smaller ones as we have only a small fridge in the caravan and it's just the two of us :) My favorite way is baking the fillets with a crust of bread crumbs mixed with olive oil, spices and grated parmesan cheese, yum
@@Fishingreminder Honestly that sounds great i will try that myself ,but i will swap out the grated cheese for parsley sauce i love parsley on my baked fish & with mashed potatoes..
@@Fishingreminder it's great it's really old school ,it's just a simple white sauce but with fresh chopped parsley flavouring it ,if you google,,, Edmonds original cookbook parsley sauce ,,,it will come up for free ,that recipe is from 1908 i do believe the English were the ones who first started using it on fish goes great with salmon also .I love that cookbook it is what most of us old Kiwi's grew up on it was the go to cook book for kiwi house wives..
What do you guys think about this crazy sea lion? This dude was nuts, charging at our boat and then harassing the kayakers and swimmers.

Those sea lions get very territorial aye. We're at Warrington now, the winds so cold though. Nice sized Rig, and we love cockles as well so sweet

Definitely a great tasting fish :) Fresh mackerel probably come closest in taste on the norther hemisphere. Cheers

yeah it makes amazingly good stock, everytime we catch kahawai we look forward to making this stock now :)
I think Kahawai taste better than snapper if you can cook it right after you catch it.

@@Fishingreminder Trumpeter will go for jigs and flasher rigs and are often caught when targeting Blue cod.

yeah it's really good, eh. Still holding up pretty good after 1 and a half year of heavy careless usage. Good fun with the 6hp motor on it.
