@@GomulDart yes but those guards are not there 24/7 my old school had an on site cop but was only there a few hours of the day because he was responsible for all the schools in the area ( 6 schools ) and some days he wasn’t there at all, the bill was supposed to implement more guards so there would be multiple on site all day every day at every school and better security systems

Don't know about other States but here in Arizona, schools have what they call Resource Officers, who are regular cops assigned to work at schools every day. Kind of like Officer Friendly but not so friendly.
We have resource officer at our schools in RI

We have those in New Orleans as well. Kids are checked with metal detectors before entering the school because the city is crime ridden.
I don't know about statewide, but I know in madison, wisconsin, resource officers are at every high school and some middle schools. I also know that they are in Milwaukee and I'm not sure where else.
Iowa has that as well but Perry is a pretty small town and may have a very small police force not capable of having that time of staffing. In the bigger city of Cedar Rapids for example most all of the schools have SROs

7-minute response time is part of the problem. If cops can't get to schools faster, then teachers need to be capable of protecting the students. Even a person with a knife or a bat could cause tremendous damage with 7 minutes to work with....

All schools should have the option for teachers and staff to take defensive firearm classes that after a certain amount of training hours allows them to conceal carry a handgun while on school grounds, if this became the norm for every single school in the country then schools wouldn't be "soft targets" anymore because you wouldn't know who inside has a gun that could potentially stop an active shooter, even at bare minimum there needs to be two resource officers in schools that have firearms and are watching camera's the entire day.
Because something fishy is going on here. The two feds onn each side of him are making sure he only speaks the narrative.

I work in a school and he said school had not started yet so that made for a better outcome. He also said there were not a lot of teachers or students at the school yet. Based on that, I am guessing the school resource officers were not there yet either. Most likely there were primarily coaches and athletes in the school. Many schools have practice in the mornings now before school starts all the way up through the first period of the day. I bet this person was targeting athletes or coaches because either A. Those are the people he feels like bully him or B. There was some kind of beef going on. Could also be upset that maybe they got benched or removed from a team. Had a coach here in Texas get jumped by a family after the game because he benched their son in a basketball game.
From his total lack of answers it sounds like they just called the school and asked if the shooter had left, standard OP for cops.
They should have made the school a gun free zone. Then this could not possibly happen!

Everyone likes to talk about “common sense” during these events. Common sense tells me that because I have a child, I have the means to defend that child, and I carry it on me at all times. If you are in charge of the safety of 30 children and you DON’T have the means to defend those children (tucked away in your waistband), then you clearly lack common sense. And if more teachers possessed common sense, that active shooter wouldn’t have made it past the first classroom… Problem solved.
But parents shouldn’t even have their children in public schools these days to begin with. If the social media induced pop culture doesn’t rot your child’s brain, the “education” they receive will.

Thank you for a quick response, but are the teachers being taught ways to protect the students until you arrive. An on gaurd police officer maybe faculty being allowed to carry and conceal, on them. Metal detectors at the doors, all doors locked on campus, so to keep out shooters. If kids need to be protected teach them possible ways to be safer. When these alarms are triggered. Even if the shooter hasn't gotten in yet

They don't have a firm count on the number of victims yet because they know of at least one 15 year old victim who left the school and went home without waiting for law enforcement or an ambulance. He had been grazed by a bullet but suffered only a superficial laceration, so he and his parents did not feel the need to go to the doctor yet (possibly wanting to leave the limited medical resources in the area available to more seriously wounded victims).
This is actually not as uncommon as it sounds in mass victim events. People who were not seriously injured go their own way, treat themselves and wait to notify law enforcement until the situation has calmed down. For example, after the mass shooting at the Route 91 mass shooting in Las Vegas, it took 3 days to arrive at a final count of the number of injured victims because so many of those with minor injuries treated themselves initially.
