Hi Tim thanks very much for this tutorial and the painting is beautiful. Tim can I ask what the drying time would be after finishing the painting using these water soluble oils with the linseed oil. I know the real oils are pain cos they take so much longer than any other paint to dry. I believe the ordinary oils take up to 3 months before they are even touch dry and then to try to store them safely so they dont get destroyed. And thevsmell is not great for me cos I have chest problems. I love the look of oils but I cant use them mostly because of my chest. But also to try and store them safely. Its a no go area really. I was wondering how long approx these would take to dry completely. Id love to try them out. Thanks again for this because this is the first time I' ve seen a tutorial with water soluble oil paints. Thank you so much. God bless Susan
This is very good information. Thank you. One question-when you did the red color wash and then the trees in the darker color - did you paint them with acrylics?
Great tutorial. I couldn't tell but you didn't mix linseed into the paints, right? I have a set but haven't been able to use them yet, I do love my acrylics.
I go back and forth between oils and acrylics; maybe I should give these water-solubles another look. If they are as convenient as acrylics I’d be very happy!
Thank you so much from Athens! I really love oils but latelythe smells annoy my husband..so I turned to Acrylics which dry too fast... I have unfinished oil paintings..can I finish them off with watersoluble oils? I cant find why not...
How economic is water-soluble oil vs acrylic, especially for a beginner? How long does it take to dry? Also, can you just paint over the oil with gesso if you don't like the painting?
It can be much more economical because the paints stay workable much longer... days even weeks if you use a standard wet palette. I would not re coat them with gesso... I',m not sure how good the adhesion would be
Such a beautiful painting- the pop of colors--wow! Can I ask if there is time elapsed in this painting? Meaning, do you wait for anything paint to dry before going to the next stage or was this painting done in one sitting? Thanks so much for sharing so much with us.

Here's his response to a similar question asked further down in the comments -- Hi Lorrie... it depends on the paints you are using , how thickly they are applied and whether or not you are using any mediums with the paints. Some colours (reds especially) take forever to dry, while some colours dry very quickly. Thick paint takes longer to cure... and some mediums (impasto medium) can drastically speed up drying time. The main thing is to make sure the paint has fully cured and dried all the way through before varnishing. You can do a touch test to determine whether or not the paint has cured. Areas of thick paint should feel firm and not soft and squishy... if in doubt you are better to give the painting a little more time before varnishing😊👍
Hi I am confused if you have to finish the painting in one day or can you continue the next day or a few days later with this method? Does the painting have to be touch dry to paint more layers ? And do you have to follow fat over lean rule ? Thanks
you can work on the painting over multiple days. Because we are just applying the thin coat of oil to the canvas as the first step and are not using the oil medium any more during the process... you don't need to worry about the fat over lean rule. and I paint wet into wet paint layers
⁉️❓❓❓Can you paint acrylic over water mixable oil paint? I have an old painting that I never finished that it was with this type of oil paint. I’d like and preferred to paint over it with acrylic and finish the painting. I have used an acrylic varnish over the entire painting as an acrylic surface.. is this possible?
I’m just learning to use oils, starting with water mixable ones. Why did you put the linseed oil over your base colors of the red and the black trees? Is that because the linseed oil should not be put directly on the canvas. Can you finish your painting with an oil varnish or does it have to be a water mixable oil varnish? And lastly, I want to do some paintings on brushed aluminum. What would I prime that with? Thank you.
@@wiffor1 I put the linseed oil so that the paints slide on easily… otherwise it is like painting brush…I use Krylon’s Kamar spray varnish. I would use gesso to prime the aluminum… I’m pretty sure u can get a clear gesso if you want the aluminum to show through👍
@ there are different water soluble oil mediums of varying consistency… some thinner ones are more like baby oil, while thicker ones are more like syrup… there are also transparent gel mediums and impasto mediums to thicken the paint 👍😊
@@HueyPProductions it’s not really an issue because all of the mediums that I use, at the start of the painting process speed up the drying time. The paint by itself is the “fattest” paint in the process.👍
Hi Tim, beautiful work! I accidentally put the linseed oil on late this evening and dont have time to start the painting! WIll I now have to wait for it to dry before applying another coat of the oil to paint into? Can you tell me the typical drying time for linseed oil if I have to wait? Thanks for any tips or suggestions.
Tim How long should I wait to varnish my painting. I read that water soluble oil dries in 3-5 days but then I read you should wait 6 months til you varnish… what is your method?
Hi Lorrie... it depends on the paints you are using , how thickly they are applied and whether or not you are using any mediums with the paints. Some colours (reds especially) take forever to dry, while some colours dry very quickly. Thick paint takes longer to cure... and some mediums (impasto medium) can drastically speed up drying time. No... you shouldn't put acrylic over oil... it will not adhere properly
Where do you find them?
I’m just learning to use oils, starting with water mixable ones. Why did you put the linseed oil over your base colors of the red and the black trees? Is that because the linseed oil should not be put directly on the canvas. Can you finish your painting with an oil varnish or does it have to be a water mixable oil varnish? And lastly, I want to do some paintings on brushed aluminum. What would I prime that with? Thank you.
@@wiffor1 I put the linseed oil so that the paints slide on easily… otherwise it is like painting brush…I use Krylon’s Kamar spray varnish. I would use gesso to prime the aluminum… I’m pretty sure u can get a clear gesso if you want the aluminum to show through👍
@@timpackerfinearts thank you! Will do!!
@@wiffor1 😊👍
How long do I let the acrylic paint to dry before painting
@@HueyPProductions it only takes a few minutes to dry 👍
@ what do you use for paint thinner on wmo paint?
@ there are different water soluble oil mediums of varying consistency… some thinner ones are more like baby oil, while thicker ones are more like syrup… there are also transparent gel mediums and impasto mediums to thicken the paint 👍😊
@@timpackerfinearts how do you follow the fat over lean rule with the mediums you mix
@@HueyPProductions it’s not really an issue because all of the mediums that I use, at the start of the painting process speed up the drying time. The paint by itself is the “fattest” paint in the process.👍
Beautiful work!!
Vanessa N.N. Paintings thank you 😊🙏
Hi Tim, beautiful work! I accidentally put the linseed oil on late this evening and dont have time to start the painting! WIll I now have to wait for it to dry before applying another coat of the oil to paint into? Can you tell me the typical drying time for linseed oil if I have to wait? Thanks for any tips or suggestions.
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. If the oil is still wet you can paint into it the next day. If it dries you can reapply 😊👍
Tim is there a way to do a wet on wet technique like Bill Alexander or Bob Ross?
You would have to try it out and see 👍🖌
Great video, thank you 😊
You are welcome 😊👍
Tim How long should I wait to varnish my painting. I read that water soluble oil dries in 3-5 days but then I read you should wait 6 months til you varnish… what is your method?
Hi Lorrie... it depends on the paints you are using , how thickly they are applied and whether or not you are using any mediums with the paints.
Some colours (reds especially) take forever to dry, while some colours dry very quickly. Thick paint takes longer to cure... and some mediums (impasto medium) can drastically speed up drying time. The main thing is to make sure the paint has fully cured and dried all the way through before varnishing. You can do a touch test to determine whether or not the paint has cured. Areas of thick paint should feel firm and not soft and squishy... if in doubt you are better to give the painting a little more time before varnishing😊👍

Bellisimo, gracias por compartir tu sabiduría
my pleasure😊🙏
I use them.no problems🎃
The sound is a little off,but I like the palette paper even though more expensive than glass.
