The Lip Sync Tournament for the Finale is exactly what Canada Season 2 did... However, they used RuPaul songs (presumably because they didn't have the budget for other songs) and thus, the lip syncs were just forgettable.

Queens who have little experience in doing other people's make up (which really isn't something they need for their art) that makeovers are often near the end? There is a large number of talents that are tested in drag race. Why is lip syncing off limits? I still think it sucks and just did not fit the story of the season. But I feel Icesis won because she had the better storyline.

If a queen very clearly loses a lip sync and is on the BRINK of elimination but is kept because of storyline reasons it feels wrong. If a queen isn’t good at a challenge like the example of snatch game you gave, they have a chance to redeem themselves by lip syncing. That’s the whole name of the game. It would be different if they lip synced as the challenge and then had snatch game to save themselves
Was it? We knew that Icesis and Kendall we're not losing and they could not get rid of Pythia over Gia. I love Kendall's and Icesis's performance on that episode but yo me it felt unnecesaary.

Kendall destroyed Synthia and Gia Is not the best at lipsyncing she had won because Beth and Kimora wer just so bad. Pythia We knew could not perform as amazing in a LS even though she could server face. Also Pythia was a frontrunner so they would not kick her. Finally when it was Kendall vs Gia We knew what the outcomes would be. Specially since the wanted the Beat pack and the fashion queens to face each other for the storylines

The thing about the AS4 finale... we were getting a double win either way, no matter what. They planned on giving away $200,000... you have to plan that out. My guess is they wanted to crown Latrila, but Latrice didn't do that well and Naomi Smalls decided to make TV history, so it got down to who we got.
The thing with S9's lip syncs for me is more than them just being "bad", they're also inconsequential - the person who was doing better in the competition stayed except for Valentina vs Nina, and Valentina gave up, so the usual excitement of sending home a potential front runner wasn't there. There was no moment of, say, Naomi eliminating Betty. That changed when Shea and Trinity got eliminated.

i'd like the finale to be an intense final competitive episode instead of an hour long wait just to see who production has chosen. for example, a ball challenge like they did on the s13 finale, and have one of the top 4 get eliminated. then the remaining 3 performing a group number or some other challenge, having a 3rd place queen eliminated. then the top 2 lipsync for the crown. the producers would still pull shenanigans, but it would make sense competition-wise
They also got better numbers? I felt s8 in particular the numbers matched the queens' brands so well. Meanwhile with s14 I just thought they did not get enough time?
we need the return of the top 3 i think and then given them each time in the finale for a performance and interview. finales are always boring anyways so at least just let the girls give a 10/10 performance
The finale should be some kind of legit challenge like Top Chef, Project Runway, Face Off where all contestants in the finale have a shot & it’s a challenge that’s bigger then any of the previous challenges.

I liked the season 12 finale actually. I feel like the songs the queens chose represented them better than any song that production would’ve written for them. I don’t hate the season 7,8,14 format, but I do find the songs that production writes so cringey. Am I the only one that feels that way?
Seasons 7 and 8 will always be my favorite type of finale. Season 9 had a GOOD finale, but production needs to stop trying to recreate the same thing because they won't get that Sasha Velour/Peppermint moment because after sthey did their reveals, EVERY single season finale afterwards had some sort of reveal one way or another so it's become expected. Season 14 was a breath of fresh air because they finally brought back the Season 7/8 finale format with a mix of the current finale format they've been doing, BUT I was already over the whole season mainly because of how long the season was and the top 2 lipsync for the crown was underwhelming for me after watching the top 5's dance numbers (especially with how iconic Willow Pill's number was).
Please let us have more midseason SmackDowns without the shenanigan that is "everyone in the bottom". Somewhere pre-top 5 episode, just so we have that final boost. The final challenge can still be grandiose without the battles, like It was on Thailand s1 or dragula. Individual shows where the queens can PRODUCE their own performances.
A lot of people are talking about the lip sync tournament at the end of Canada 2, which was great, but I also wanna mention that Drag Race France did the same thing in their last competitive episode, which felt satisfying for me both because it removed the arbitrary "we need a top 3 so we send one of you home" elimination and because it reminded you how good the top 2 were at performing.
Halfway through this video and I just thought - a talent show of all the contestants at the end would be an amazing finale they could all have their own original songs planned or dance/comedy routines whatever shows off their best talents to get one last taste of what they all do and would be amazing for the early outs too!

I don't understand the argument that just because the final lip syncs didn't matter in older seasons that they should never matter... are things not allowed to change? The finale shouldn't invalidate the whole season but it definitely should carry some weight otherwise there's no point in doing it, the older finales were extremely boring for that exact reason. What would be the point in any queens actually trying in the finale if there was no chance for them to win because they didn't have the best "track record" of made up points that the show itself doesn't even use.

I want to say, that you are probably the drag race comentator that I practically agree with 100% of the time. I had met too many people trying to say, that Monet had way better track record than Jinkx in AS7, some dare even say that her track record places her 3rd in that season and that your method of scoring performances in each episodes has nothing to do with PPE and is invalid. I had lost any will to even argue with people like that, as most of them just doesn't like Jinkx at all (they still paint her like Roxxy did in S5 - gimmick queen that is only good in comedy).

I really enjoy your videos and commentary. This was insightful. I also agree that the lipsync for the crown should be scrapped completely. I think it was justified in season 9 for all of the reasons you listed above; however after this i think it should have been addressed by production and Ru (as if that was to happen) that a lipsync for the crown would only be held if the lipsyncs were of a low calibre all season long. I like the trajectory of season 14, but it still seemed off ( I think it may have been the top 5 element, too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth). I agree we need something fresh that takes into consideration track record and a 'final stand' for lack of a better term, to choose the winner.
I recently rewatched all stars 2 in 2 days with a friend who had never seen it before, and the resemblance to UK vs the world in terms of eliminations and what occurred are strikingly similar, and yet the fan base outrage was directed in such a different way. Tatiana like Jimbo gets eliminated right after a win. Had Katya gone home in the rusical, she would have gone home after a win as well.
I love the twist of lipsync to get to the finale, thats what canada did in s2, and it was pure fire, to me it would go like this The previus winner or the queen with the most wins, picks the pairs, that would be imo the fairest way
I think the lip sync for the crown was a good thing on s9 not because of the lip syncs of that season but because the winners of each season were very easy to predict, making the final episodes of the competition feel like they had little stakes. My problem with lip sync for the crown is that queens who are amazing performers and talented in areas other than lip sync basically don't have a chance of getting the crown. IMO, the finales should be similar to season 8, with a talent show aspect to it. The final queens inidividually perform something that they want to, which could be anything (dancing, singing, lip sync, comedy, etc) and based on the performances + track records the winner is chosen. I still think that S14 finale was a copy from La Más Draga (México), with way too many people to be fully enjoyable, but the same idea with 3-4 queens and longer numbers would be amazing
Lipsync for the crown are good but, not for every season since season 9... the only seasons who deserves a lipsync for the crown are: Season 11: just for yvie storyline with silky and the rematch against brooke. All stars 6: literally we see the top 4 perform in the season in some moment, maybe a lipsync for the crown here wasnt a bad idea instead of what we had.
Drag Race France did the lipsync tournament for the finale and it was clearly robbery. It was the makeover as last challenge, they were 4 queens and the one that should have won the challenge was eliminated due to this tournament and nobody get a challenge win. Production used that twist to push their 3 favorites and push out the one that they didn't really care or have a good treatment. Our french Top 3 was good as f*** but the fourth placed deserved so much better.😔
I would like finales and even bottom 2 "lipsync for your life" to become a "perform for your life/the crown" kind of situation. Just imagine each queen chosing how they would like to perform versus the other. Comedy, lipsync, roast, quick acting, dance...? Then put both preferences into a box or wathever, and then draw something between theses 2 picks. Both queens would then have to "perform" according to that pick, that one of them decided. Sure, there will still be a lot of lipsync, and that's fine. But it will also give some variety, and mostly give a chance to then queens whose forte is not lipsyncing.
Best way to do a finale is probably to have a she already done had herses competition with the queens who placed 5-8 and then a individual performance for the top 4 queens
If they wanted to keep the LSFC format they could simply choose a top 3 and make them lipsync pair by pair and them decide the winner after the 3 rounds. So if the queen did good in the season (like Aquaria and Shea) and messed up one lipsync, she would still be able to win the overall thing. The season wouldn't depend on a two minute lipsync only.
I think at the finale, they should change the challenge to something more original to the contestants, like a talent show and ball runaway, plus lipsinc can be include but not in a battle format, that can showcase their talent and originalty of each contestants..
Also, s13 and s14 have WHOLE EPISODES dedicated to lip-syncs, and every season now is so lip-sync heavy. But the winner of those seasons is not even a crazy good lip-syncer (Symone, Willow, Jinkx...?)
Season 10's Lip Sync for the Crown was such a rehash (RU-hash, lol) of Season 9.... The "type" of Queens is very ironic. Here they are listed below: Season 9 Competitors for the 👑 Sasha-NYC Fashionista, never bttm2 Trinity- Sassy Southern Pageant Qween Peppermint- Lipsyncer Assassin Shea- A Strong Qween who was urged to talk about her deceased Father & Sister right before lipsyncing. Season 10 Competitors for the 👑 Aquaria- NYC Fashionista, never bttm2 Erueka- Sassy Southern Pageant Qween Kameron- Lipsyncer Assasin Asia- Strong Qween who was urged to talk about her deceased Mother & Father riiiiight before lip syncing. Production and VH1 wanted magic to strike twice SO bad. We all did, I supposed lol. But these types of performers we're redundant from storytelling aspects. Or rather RU-dundant
ironically I think the best format is the one the production didn't have much time to think about: season 12. they should let the queens pick from a list of 10/12 songs, give resources (like celebrity drag race s2) and then go for a top 3 lip sync for a ballad/sad/slow song like UK season 3 and Spain season 1 even if Rupaul has already chosen his winner
Lipsyncing for the win could be alright if there were not certain favourited queens in the finales to begin with. Throughout seasons there is questionable judging that track records can often mean very little, so what really is the most valuable asset when it comes to winning...
I agree with a Lipsync for the Crown not being trashed, but removed as the single deciding/allegedly deciding factor. They should run the finale more similar to how ANTM did with covergirl commercial, photo, and finale runway in the same episode. I think a ball, single performance of the contestants choosing (can be comedy, acting, dance, music), and then a lipsync gauntlet should all be done in the finale episode, with no eliminations. Then at the end, Ru decides weighing in all 3 competitive aspects. Kiiinda similar to pageants. Or lipsync gauntlet to get into the finale. Then finale is ball, rumix performance, and then "variety show "/ performance of their choosing... which should be weighted the heaviest, since that's like a look into what their reign and post-rpdr career will be like.
11:30 "since when did we ever take that into consideration?". I would argue that the show does not ALWAYS consider the final lipsyncs when chosing a winner. However, season 9 clearly did because trinity and shea both lost round 1.... The show also can use the lipsync to justify their prefered winner winning without having the best track record (Yvie). So yes, It HAS mattered but it does not matter every time, which is really fustrating and inconsistent for the show.
The best use of lip syncing tournaments since season 9 was the lip sync amongst the losers in all stars 6 to get back into the competition. I would love to see that back over the lip sync for the crown.
I understand what one the Patreon that said that “there only rely on there revealed and stunt and don’t even fight” but it is the final you got to show everything you got. you got to do good Reveled and stunt and know your word to a song and emotions and finally know what the song about and how your going to turn it to it to get the top 2 or even win the season I know not everything have to be a reveled or Stunt but when there money especially with all star 7 that give aways $200,000 on the line yeah YOU GOT TO TURN IT OUT with all those 4 thing
I think one of the only reasons why drag race has become so lip sync heavy is because a lot of the contestants come back to their home bars and lip sync for a living. This shows their home bars that they are capable of performing which helps them get booked a lot more.
The title of the challenge itself has a problem. If you're going to lip sync for the crown, it automatically alludes to the fact that your previous challenge wins may not count. I think that was what led to the fans' reaction with the AS7 result. If you're going to have a lip sync for the crown, I think it should be made clear at the beginning about what the show is going to do with a queen's previous track record. Is it going to be thrown out the window, or is it still going to be in consideration? Anyway, personally I don't think someone's track record needs to be discarded to favour any particular storyline, or queen because lately, that's what the lip syncs for the crown seem to have done.
This is always the issue with folkx that have no clue about what drag was before this show was mainstream. Just like in any other drag competition, regardless of your "experience" or "track record" whomever is the best that day/night is who wins. For all of that, there should be no lip-sync's at all. For example, why are we keeping the girl who bombed the challenge and the runway saved, because she lip-sync'd well. Same issue. At the end of the day drag is primarily about performance, clothes are a factor but not nearly as big as drag race tries to make it, which is why we get so many queens that are pretty to look at, might have cute clothes, but are as interesting as watching paint dry. As soon as these girls get off t.v. their careers plummet because all they can do is look cute which isn't the culture.
Quite frankly it never really worked. It just fucks everything, even in season 9. There's no way Peppermint should have been top 2, and the idea that she could have won is crazy. Peppermint will say herself that she didn't do well.

Not only do people actually belive that monet should have won as7, I've had MULTIPLE PEOPLE scream at me over instagram because I justified Jinkx winning for having a better track record, not only that, but they genuinely believe that monet had a better track record. Either because of her badges or because "she was high almost every episode and jinkx was just safe". I've also seen people claim that eureka had the best track record of as6 and think that, even if she got eliminated, she should have won 🙄
Imo there should be a lip sync tournament. It shouldn't be in the final four; the placement it had in s14 worked just fine (so have it at eight queens?); more queens also means more banter in the workroom which certainly made both the S14 and the AS6 tournaments more enjoyable. Canada did it in the finale four and it really ruined Pythia's momentum (though I still felt Icesis should have won on Charisma alone). Plus they have three chances to save a fan favourite. What I'd want is a talent show at the finale with 3-4 queens that actually are given a decent amount of time to present a number and a decent budget by production. The best rated episode of drag race is now Espana 2's talent show and what made that special beyond the cast being spectacular was also that the queens seemed well supported with props and dancers (Better than in ANY US All Stars talent show). Btw on Monet's track record on AS4; if we were to count the final episode as a competitive episode, Monet won that challenge hands down. That would change the final record.
I'm not against changing the format again, but I do find lip synchs for the crown more entertaining than solo lipsynchs (s07-08) or anything they did in past seasons.
Lipsync for the crown doesn’t need to go. Moreso, the producers need to award the crown to the ACTUAL winner. If you got a Queen that cannot lipsync, tough shit. There are ways to lipsync and show your creativity. You don’t have to be a Jorgeous or Monet to give a good lipsync. Sasha IMO shouldn’t have won, but you’d have to be crazy to think she didn’t eat the fucking lipsync. Same with Yvie and Willow.
You basically explained all my opinions. The format needs to go. Jinkx won AS7 by being the best competitor but by the rules of the LSFTC they implemented, Monet should have won because she did beat Jinkx in Swish Swish without a doubt. It's like production wants to have their cake (crowning the fan favourite everyone was rooting for) and eat it too (having the LSFTC which allows for the big gag-worthy moment that draw in viewers and reactions.*

Tbh lip syncing for the crown wasn’t the bad descision on AS7, they just shouldn’t have picked a fast/performance heavy song like swish swish. I think they should take away winners of challenges and just give praise to the people who do well and then make the bottoms lsfyl. That way the winners can be more accepted. If the, did better in the finale episode, were valid, Alexis Mateo would won season 3, so, makes no sense that everybody says Monet won AS4 and AS7, even in AS7 I think Trinity won the So What lipsync, but people wold not have it if Monet got eliminated to Trinity
Lip sync for the crown needs to go. They spend an entire season demanding versatility and if you fail the assignment, you lip sync. In the end, it comes down to the very thing considered the bare minimum, only this time to win? Plus the pairing seems very calculated. There was magic in a bottle once and 10-ish seasons later it hasn't happened again. It's just reveal, death drop, repeat. I left this comment on another video last night and have said it many times. That and Ru and Michelle should never be allowed to host international franchises because of their obvious lack of appreciation for other cultures. I feel as though the overuse of Lipsync for the Crown format is kind of a bit of a microcosm for the state of the show. They keep trying to recreate lightning in the bottle with some of the, earlier, more shocking and stand out moments from previous seasons. It keeps falling flat imo. I think part of this is contributing to the drag race fatigue as a whole since things have gotten pretty stale with some of the beats it likes to hit.

i'd like the finale to be an intense final competitive episode instead of an hour long wait just to see who production has chosen. for example, a ball challenge like they did on the s13 finale, and have one of the top 4 get eliminated. then the remaining 3 performing a group number or some other challenge, having a 3rd place queen eliminated. then the top 2 lipsync for the crown. the producers would still pull shenanigans, but it would make sense competition-wise

The finale should be some kind of legit challenge like Top Chef, Project Runway, Face Off where all contestants in the finale have a shot & it’s a challenge that’s bigger then any of the previous challenges.

I liked the season 12 finale actually. I feel like the songs the queens chose represented them better than any song that production would’ve written for them. I don’t hate the season 7,8,14 format, but I do find the songs that production writes so cringey. Am I the only one that feels that way?

Seasons 7 and 8 will always be my favorite type of finale.
Season 9 had a GOOD finale, but production needs to stop trying to recreate the same thing because they won't get that Sasha Velour/Peppermint moment because after sthey did their reveals, EVERY single season finale afterwards had some sort of reveal one way or another so it's become expected.
Season 14 was a breath of fresh air because they finally brought back the Season 7/8 finale format with a mix of the current finale format they've been doing, BUT I was already over the whole season mainly because of how long the season was and the top 2 lipsync for the crown was underwhelming for me after watching the top 5's dance numbers (especially with how iconic Willow Pill's number was).
Please let us have more midseason SmackDowns without the shenanigan that is "everyone in the bottom". Somewhere pre-top 5 episode, just so we have that final boost. The final challenge can still be grandiose without the battles, like It was on Thailand s1 or dragula. Individual shows where the queens can PRODUCE their own performances.
A lot of people are talking about the lip sync tournament at the end of Canada 2, which was great, but I also wanna mention that Drag Race France did the same thing in their last competitive episode, which felt satisfying for me both because it removed the arbitrary "we need a top 3 so we send one of you home" elimination and because it reminded you how good the top 2 were at performing.
Halfway through this video and I just thought - a talent show of all the contestants at the end would be an amazing finale they could all have their own original songs planned or dance/comedy routines whatever shows off their best talents to get one last taste of what they all do and would be amazing for the early outs too!

I don't understand the argument that just because the final lip syncs didn't matter in older seasons that they should never matter... are things not allowed to change? The finale shouldn't invalidate the whole season but it definitely should carry some weight otherwise there's no point in doing it, the older finales were extremely boring for that exact reason. What would be the point in any queens actually trying in the finale if there was no chance for them to win because they didn't have the best "track record" of made up points that the show itself doesn't even use.

I want to say, that you are probably the drag race comentator that I practically agree with 100% of the time. I had met too many people trying to say, that Monet had way better track record than Jinkx in AS7, some dare even say that her track record places her 3rd in that season and that your method of scoring performances in each episodes has nothing to do with PPE and is invalid. I had lost any will to even argue with people like that, as most of them just doesn't like Jinkx at all (they still paint her like Roxxy did in S5 - gimmick queen that is only good in comedy).

I really enjoy your videos and commentary. This was insightful. I also agree that the lipsync for the crown should be scrapped completely. I think it was justified in season 9 for all of the reasons you listed above; however after this i think it should have been addressed by production and Ru (as if that was to happen) that a lipsync for the crown would only be held if the lipsyncs were of a low calibre all season long. I like the trajectory of season 14, but it still seemed off ( I think it may have been the top 5 element, too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth). I agree we need something fresh that takes into consideration track record and a 'final stand' for lack of a better term, to choose the winner.

I recently rewatched all stars 2 in 2 days with a friend who had never seen it before, and the resemblance to UK vs the world in terms of eliminations and what occurred are strikingly similar, and yet the fan base outrage was directed in such a different way. Tatiana like Jimbo gets eliminated right after a win. Had Katya gone home in the rusical, she would have gone home after a win as well.
I love the twist of lipsync to get to the finale, thats what canada did in s2, and it was pure fire, to me it would go like this
The previus winner or the queen with the most wins, picks the pairs, that would be imo the fairest way
I think the lip sync for the crown was a good thing on s9 not because of the lip syncs of that season but because the winners of each season were very easy to predict, making the final episodes of the competition feel like they had little stakes. My problem with lip sync for the crown is that queens who are amazing performers and talented in areas other than lip sync basically don't have a chance of getting the crown.
IMO, the finales should be similar to season 8, with a talent show aspect to it. The final queens inidividually perform something that they want to, which could be anything (dancing, singing, lip sync, comedy, etc) and based on the performances + track records the winner is chosen.

Canada 2 anda France already did the Lip Sync Tournament, and it's maybe a little faulty but definitely better.
I still think that S14 finale was a copy from La Más Draga (México), with way too many people to be fully enjoyable, but the same idea with 3-4 queens and longer numbers would be amazing

Season 11: just for yvie storyline with silky and the rematch against brooke.
All stars 6: literally we see the top 4 perform in the season in some moment, maybe a lipsync for the crown here wasnt a bad idea instead of what we had.
Drag Race France did the lipsync tournament for the finale and it was clearly robbery. It was the makeover as last challenge, they were 4 queens and the one that should have won the challenge was eliminated due to this tournament and nobody get a challenge win. Production used that twist to push their 3 favorites and push out the one that they didn't really care or have a good treatment. Our french Top 3 was good as f*** but the fourth placed deserved so much better.😔
I would like finales and even bottom 2 "lipsync for your life" to become a "perform for your life/the crown" kind of situation.
Just imagine each queen chosing how they would like to perform versus the other. Comedy, lipsync, roast, quick acting, dance...? Then put both preferences into a box or wathever, and then draw something between theses 2 picks. Both queens would then have to "perform" according to that pick, that one of them decided. Sure, there will still be a lot of lipsync, and that's fine. But it will also give some variety, and mostly give a chance to then queens whose forte is not lipsyncing.

Best way to do a finale is probably to have a she already done had herses competition with the queens who placed 5-8 and then a individual performance for the top 4 queens
If they wanted to keep the LSFC format they could simply choose a top 3 and make them lipsync pair by pair and them decide the winner after the 3 rounds. So if the queen did good in the season (like Aquaria and Shea) and messed up one lipsync, she would still be able to win the overall thing. The season wouldn't depend on a two minute lipsync only.
I think at the finale, they should change the challenge to something more original to the contestants, like a talent show and ball runaway, plus lipsinc can be include but not in a battle format, that can showcase their talent and originalty of each contestants..
Also, s13 and s14 have WHOLE EPISODES dedicated to lip-syncs, and every season now is so lip-sync heavy. But the winner of those seasons is not even a crazy good lip-syncer (Symone, Willow, Jinkx...?)
also i felt really bad for jasmine, a lot of her reputation was for her lipsyncs/ dancing, so to have her lose 3 lip syncs in a row must be depressing

ironically I think the best format is the one the production didn't have much time to think about: season 12. they should let the queens pick from a list of 10/12 songs, give resources (like celebrity drag race s2) and then go for a top 3 lip sync for a ballad/sad/slow song like UK season 3 and Spain season 1 even if Rupaul has already chosen his winner
Lipsyncing for the win could be alright if there were not certain favourited queens in the finales to begin with. Throughout seasons there is questionable judging that track records can often mean very little, so what really is the most valuable asset when it comes to winning...
I agree with a Lipsync for the Crown not being trashed, but removed as the single deciding/allegedly deciding factor. They should run the finale more similar to how ANTM did with covergirl commercial, photo, and finale runway in the same episode.
I think a ball, single performance of the contestants choosing (can be comedy, acting, dance, music), and then a lipsync gauntlet should all be done in the finale episode, with no eliminations. Then at the end, Ru decides weighing in all 3 competitive aspects. Kiiinda similar to pageants.
Or lipsync gauntlet to get into the finale. Then finale is ball, rumix performance, and then "variety show "/ performance of their choosing... which should be weighted the heaviest, since that's like a look into what their reign and post-rpdr career will be like.

However, season 9 clearly did because trinity and shea both lost round 1.... The show also can use the lipsync to justify their prefered winner winning without having the best track record (Yvie). So yes, It HAS mattered but it does not matter every time, which is really fustrating and inconsistent for the show.

The best use of lip syncing tournaments since season 9 was the lip sync amongst the losers in all stars 6 to get back into the competition. I would love to see that back over the lip sync for the crown.

I understand what one the Patreon that said that “there only rely on there revealed and stunt and don’t even fight” but it is the final you got to show everything you got. you got to do good Reveled and stunt and know your word to a song and emotions and finally know what the song about and how your going to turn it to it to get the top 2 or even win the season I know not everything have to be a reveled or Stunt but when there money especially with all star 7 that give aways $200,000 on the line yeah YOU GOT TO TURN IT OUT with all those 4 thing
I think one of the only reasons why drag race has become so lip sync heavy is because a lot of the contestants come back to their home bars and lip sync for a living. This shows their home bars that they are capable of performing which helps them get booked a lot more.
The title of the challenge itself has a problem. If you're going to lip sync for the crown, it automatically alludes to the fact that your previous challenge wins may not count. I think that was what led to the fans' reaction with the AS7 result. If you're going to have a lip sync for the crown, I think it should be made clear at the beginning about what the show is going to do with a queen's previous track record. Is it going to be thrown out the window, or is it still going to be in consideration? Anyway, personally I don't think someone's track record needs to be discarded to favour any particular storyline, or queen because lately, that's what the lip syncs for the crown seem to have done.
This is always the issue with folkx that have no clue about what drag was before this show was mainstream. Just like in any other drag competition, regardless of your "experience" or "track record" whomever is the best that day/night is who wins. For all of that, there should be no lip-sync's at all. For example, why are we keeping the girl who bombed the challenge and the runway saved, because she lip-sync'd well. Same issue. At the end of the day drag is primarily about performance, clothes are a factor but not nearly as big as drag race tries to make it, which is why we get so many queens that are pretty to look at, might have cute clothes, but are as interesting as watching paint dry. As soon as these girls get off t.v. their careers plummet because all they can do is look cute which isn't the culture.

Not only do people actually belive that monet should have won as7, I've had MULTIPLE PEOPLE scream at me over instagram because I justified Jinkx winning for having a better track record, not only that, but they genuinely believe that monet had a better track record. Either because of her badges or because "she was high almost every episode and jinkx was just safe". I've also seen people claim that eureka had the best track record of as6 and think that, even if she got eliminated, she should have won 🙄

Imo there should be a lip sync tournament. It shouldn't be in the final four; the placement it had in s14 worked just fine (so have it at eight queens?); more queens also means more banter in the workroom which certainly made both the S14 and the AS6 tournaments more enjoyable. Canada did it in the finale four and it really ruined Pythia's momentum (though I still felt Icesis should have won on Charisma alone). Plus they have three chances to save a fan favourite. What I'd want is a talent show at the finale with 3-4 queens that actually are given a decent amount of time to present a number and a decent budget by production. The best rated episode of drag race is now Espana 2's talent show and what made that special beyond the cast being spectacular was also that the queens seemed well supported with props and dancers (Better than in ANY US All Stars talent show).
Btw on Monet's track record on AS4; if we were to count the final episode as a competitive episode, Monet won that challenge hands down. That would change the final record.
I'm not against changing the format again, but I do find lip synchs for the crown more entertaining than solo lipsynchs (s07-08) or anything they did in past seasons.

There are ways to lipsync and show your creativity. You don’t have to be a Jorgeous or Monet to give a good lipsync. Sasha IMO shouldn’t have won, but you’d have to be crazy to think she didn’t eat the fucking lipsync. Same with Yvie and Willow.

Jinkx won AS7 by being the best competitor but by the rules of the LSFTC they implemented, Monet should have won because she did beat Jinkx in Swish Swish without a doubt. Think Espana 1 and Canada 2, emotional songs just to get the lip sync on more equal levels for everyone because obviously a dancing queen will do better on a dance heavy song

Lip sync for the crown needs to go. They spend an entire season demanding versatility and if you fail the assignment, you lip sync. In the end, it comes down to the very thing considered the bare minimum, only this time to win? Plus the pairing seems very calculated. There was magic in a bottle once and 10-ish seasons later it hasn't happened again. It's just reveal, death drop, repeat.

I feel as though the overuse of Lipsync for the Crown format is kind of a bit of a microcosm for the state of the show. They keep trying to recreate lightning in the bottle with some of the, earlier, more shocking and stand out moments from previous seasons. It keeps falling flat imo.
I think part of this is contributing to the drag race fatigue as a whole since things have gotten pretty stale with some of the beats it likes to hit.
