Are there any Game Boy launch titles that stick out to you? We'll be tackling either the Wii or Sega Dreamcast next, and don't worry! The PS1/PS2 will come around soon enough. Thanks for all your amazing support with this series!
I don't understand the "everything I've got" meme from these videos and I've never asked a question before so I'm going to ask. This I've. Got. Can somebody tell me thank you lol.
Got my Gameboy for Xmas 1990 and alleyway and Mario tennis and super Mario land. I still own my game boy 30 years later and still plays fantastic today. There was dance tune for super Mario land and tetris that came out in the UK charts around 1992.
I had Super Mario World bundled with my Game Boy Pocket (clear plastic version, melon farmers!) So that was my favourite out of these. By the time I got it though I had also got Pokémon blue.
Super Mario Land was my first ever game that was all mine. On my first ever video game system that was all mine, a Game Boy Pocket. And yes, the music absolutely slaps. It is the game that taught 5 year old David how to think about a video game and how it can sometimes be fundamentally different from real life (I remember it not being super obvious to me why you could jump on enemies and smash your head into bricks. I literally had to learn to test out these simple game mechanics and trust in their consistency. It was a big moment for me both in terms of gaming, but also I think in generally being able to think about the world complexly and not just what was happening right in front of my face and my reaction to it)
There was another game other than Tetris? Still have my Gameboy that I got for Christmas that year, gave all the games away 15+ years ago and still don't know why I've kept it all these years.
The one thing you forgot to mention about Super Mario Land was the INFINITE ricochet fireballs! No greater feeling than grabbing a bunch of coins and kill a koopa or two in a single perfectly timed sniper shot. Glorious.
I want you to know I say the “oh here we go…sports time” bit with you ever time. And now I say it in my daily life whenever I’m doing something for the first time.
These videos just get better and better. They always have a few moments that make me laugh, but Ben’s looks to the camera after entering naughty player names had me absolutely rolling.
I can't count how many times I had traded games I had to play again and again Super Mario Land back then. Tetris my buddy gift me one because for some reason he had two. It was package with the console, but I had taken a different bundle with R-Type, Magnetic Soccer & Gargoyle's Quest. From the rest games mentioned another friend of mine had that tennis, I liked it back then. I think I've played Alleway too, maybe in one of those 50 games in 1 people were getting from vacations in Thailand. Great times!
I’m watching this vid because I believe baseball is the only launch/early game I have never played and don’t own. Not having the controls explained to u in game goes with the territory. I’m looking forward to the manual. Nintendo manuals were decent back then.
Just think, there's someone at Famitsu who played Tetris at launch and rated it 65%, the video game equivalent of that guy who didn't think the Beatles were worth signing because he didn't think guitar bands were gonna be that popular.
I wanna see you guys rank all the Gameboy/Gameboy color titles. Quarth may have not been launch title, but it was certainly one of the best, and easily one of the most unique puzzle games, combining with a bit of a shoot em up
When I was a kid I had Mario Land. It's a pretty mediocre game. Usually you have nostalgia for the game you played where you was a kid, but that's not the case. Sequels were an ENORMOUS improvement.
Bit harsh, I'd say it's still very much worth a go, even if you're right that the sequels were better still. It's over in under an hour, there's some nice ideas with things like the submarine and airplane that hadn't been tried before in Mario, and the music is great.
I thought the first Mario Land game was the best of the series. Yes the graphics were tiny but the gameplay was super fun, the music was amazing and you could play through the whole thing in under an hour. The sequels may have looked prettier but the gameplay felt slow and boring and too long for a handheld platform game. I thought the difficulty level was perfectly calibrated so that I always got a bit further each time I played.
Spending a romantic evening with Ben and a lot of classic games. Perhaps if you run out of consoles you could choose a release year and play those games?
Please make another video series about playing the last few games of the consoles before they were discontinued. There would be lots of sports time and even some radical cool bird man for the Nintendo 64.
I was going to quote Sports Time, but then I saw two or three other people already doing that and now I'm sad. I've been sad before and I've even watched people be sad on TV
A 65% Tetris score from Famitsu? That's interesting. It created a genre, and it deserves some respect for that. Most people look at it through heavily rose-tinted glasses though. The nature of the game doesn't allow for combos (chain reactions) like Puyo Puyo, Tetris Attack (Puzzle League), Puzzle Fighter, Wario's Woods, Dr. Mario, Bejewled, etc. This makes it a really shallow experience, compared to its peers. At the time though, I feel it did its job of offering something new, and killing time effectively. Tetris is one of those games that's just Taboo to say anything negative about in modern times, so it's neat to see a perspective from when it was fresh.
@@yamyam_1978 It wasn't. It was the cheapest option for Nintendo which always used off the shelf parts. That worked for them but don't think it was state of the art.
It's either "cannot be overstated" or "should not be understated." "It cannot be understated" implies that it is so little the case as to be impossible to understate how little it is the case. ..welcome 😀👍

Oh boy I hope there moments of sports with those!
I’d love to see the Dreamcast one, it’s my favourite console. As for the Wii, I’m just picturing Get Fit with Mel B all over again...
Tetris is probably the game I've spent the most time on by far cumulatively over my whole life. My top score is 620,000 ish
Yay Dreamcast
I don't understand the "everything I've got" meme from these videos and I've never asked a question before so I'm going to ask. This I've. Got.
Can somebody tell me thank you lol.
I haven't even started the game, but based on the thumbnail, I'm ready for "Oh yeahhhh!!! HERE WE GO!! SPORTS TIME!!!"
whoever came up with this series need a pint buying for them. fantastic!
Can't we all just settle this over a pint?
"OH YEAH HERE WE GO... SPORTS TIME!" Is a quote I'm trying to use in my every day life as often as I can
OH YEAH, HERE WE GO, SPORTS TIME!!!
God I love Ben's sense of humor and his silly faces.
I’ll admit I found Sports Time kind of grating at first but it’s now one of my favorite running gags on TH-cam
OH YEAH HERE WE GO, SPORTS TIME
I laugh every time.
Everytime I love it. I want to know what ppl who don't play sports think of sports :)
Cuz for dam sure he's only played futbol
So annoying

"Pokémon Red and Blue, Tetris, *Super Mario World* "
I can already tell this is gonna be one of those videos.
Based on that intro, I think Ben has finally lost his mind, and I am here for it
It finally happened; he's slightly mad!
@matt now you do, and it'll be with you forever. Your life, dreams, afterlife... it'll be there...
If that was you playing Tetris you've made me violently ill.
It actually made me furious watching whoever that was haha...
Why? Because you can't get a game over as fast as he can? Get on his level, scrub!
My favorite part of every one of these videos is definitely "SPORTS TIME"
The intro had me rolling. Great work from Bumjamin Potter
Bumjamin Pooter
So nobody going to mention he said Super Mario WORLD at the beginning?
I was going to, but I saw you beat me to it.
I still play Super Mario Land and Tetris to this day.

“I’ve never actually sat down and played Tetris”. Based on that demonstration it shows!
I had Super Mario World bundled with my Game Boy Pocket (clear plastic version, melon farmers!)
So that was my favourite out of these. By the time I got it though I had also got Pokémon blue.
Do every launch line up.
First system I got at launch was GBC, first home console was the 360.
The sports time quote is the only thing getting me through quarantine. I thank you.
I chose ARSE as my starter Pokémon too!
Countless car trips in my childhood were spent playing Super Mario Land and Tetris on my Game Boy, I loved that thing. Also, Revenge of the Gator!
That opening gag should become permanent like sports time, it absolutely kills 😂
That intro omg. So perfect

Lost track of how many times I've rewatched that intro. Those faces get me every time.
I love how all the top liked comments are the recurring "sports time!" quote, and yet all feel justified being rated as such 🤣🤣
I had super Mario land for the Gameboy at launch. I was able to beat it with one life easily. Such a good game

I can't believe I'm 35 and still laughing at bum and willy
@matt alan That's not a good thing
This series is so much fun to watch, cant wait to see whats next!
You're killing me, Ben! The intro made me laugh out loud. Thanks for making these videos!
The most relatable intro
I wanted one of these so badly. Years later I finally got a Gameboy Advance SP. So late to the party.
Probably gonna remember more of these than any of the series so far!
I'm so old :(
Only start worrying if you can remember the first games released for the Atari 2600. If you can't remember them, enjoy your youth.

Super Mario Land.

*TETRIS*
The most addictive game in the history. There is none higher. 😎
Just a word on Tennis; you COULD control the distance of your shots using up/down, giving extra variety to the gameplay..
As a massive gameboy fan, seeing Pokemon in a ‘launch’ game video is infuriating.
That intro is brilliant! 🤣
When he says about the super mario bonus level is overwhelming got me 😂😂😂🤣🤣
I like how you added a GB graphic to the sides of the footage instead of just having it be blank space.

I hate how baserunning isn't automatic in Baseball. Every time I got a hit, I was only ever a single.
From here on out, I declare that all Outfielders in the sport of baseball are now referred to as "Catchy Bois"... 😂
Super mario world? On gameboy? Am i missing something?
I hope that was just a snafu in the script... I groaned too. Super Mario LAND.

Ben and his friend Ben playing a Marjong game on their old channel was very funny just quietly
