Dear Nate, my wife just lost her four year battle with cancer. In fact, at the time of me writing this she has been home with Jesus less than 24 hours. And to make matters worse, it was just a few days before our 28th wedding anniversary. Just to let you know, you were by far her's and my favorite comedian. Near the end, I would very regularly cycle through all your specials. It would put a smile on our faces to listen to your jokes and it would take our mind off of our very tragic circumstances. Listening to your comedy those last few months really meant the world to us. It is a goal of mine to meet you one day. God bless and keep up the Lord's work.

I think you guys stumbled onto something without realizing it. Your fans need to see Nate, Aaron, Dusty, and Bovery at different times in your life.
You definitely should do an episode or even just a portion of an episode where you show us a bunch of old pictures of yourselves and rip on each other. Or maybe us folks can send you our pictures. I have a school pic where I’m wearing cowboy boots and holding a skateboard as a prop and I think seeing nonsense like that would bring joy to the world. I’ll email you the picture for your viewing pleasure.

I love how during the funeral discussion, Broomsticks says “I go to at least one a week”, and nothing, no one says a word.
Don’t worry, it got a laugh here.

I stay at a hotel once a week every week for work and have gotten some pretty awkward experiences out of it. One time I checked in at about 11pm after working outside in the heat all day and couldn’t wait to just take a shower and go to bed. So I get my room key, go upstairs and open the door and see towels all over the floor, the tv on, and somebody’s feet sticking up at the end of the bed. I closed the door and went downstairs and told the lady at the front desk and all she said was “huh…that’s weird” and then gave me another room and said “let me know if there’s somebody in that one” not even in a joking way.

Same thing happened to me. Very upsetting to me, anything could’ve happened. Oh well it’s only happened to me once in 3 years, which is like 400 stays for me. Not as bad but still annoying is when the keycard just doesn’t work.

GIDEONS!?!? Fun Fact! My husband is a Gideon! A couple years ago, a group of them went to a local hotel to place bibles in all the rooms. A week later we were driving by and we realized they had torn the entire hotel down! He was flabbergasted, but I couldn't stop laughing. Also, my Father was the International President of the organization in my late 20's. (I realize that it sounds like the only people who belong to this group are members of my family)

I was a Director of Housekeeping at a large hospital in Cincinnati. Believe it or not, all of the mops and rags that the housekeepers used were chipped. You would be blown away at how many were either taken or lost each month. We would scan bundles and could track each employees usage through an app. Kind of seems crazy typing that out and makes it seem like prison but that’s what we did!

Regarding bed bugs, if Dusty or any of you happen to get them look into Diatomaceous Earth. It's kind of like Boric Acid for roach infestations but better. Sprinkle some diatomaceous earth around the bed and (if it's a bad infestation) under the mattress and around the edges of the walls and floorboards.
Diatomaceous Earth works by drying out the exoskeleton of insects like bedbugs. Worked for me, got rid of more than 6 month infestation.
    Love the show btw!

Just be careful not to breathe it in! It fossilized algae, so it's super sharp. I know that's how it can kill parasites if taken internally, because it basically rips them up as they crawl across it. Safe for the digestive system - NOT safe for lungs - Not safe for parasites and bed bugs...

Dusty thinking you needed an invitation to a funeral had me cracking up. My dad was a pastor, and he once performed a graveside service where, after he finished, one of the guests pulled him aside and said, “Pastor, I need you to do one for George real quick.” He walked my dad to his car, opened the trunk, moved aside a bunch of empty beer cans and pulled out an urn and a shovel. He then proceeded to dig a hole, bury the urn, and ask my dad to say a few words for his friend. Clearly there are no rules at funerals, Dusty.

Hey Nate, I'm a reading specialist. Dyslexic people often struggle to remember and comprehend what they read because their brains are working so hard to decode the words. That's probably why you can't remember much of what you've read. But also, dyslexic people also have higher than average IQs. So a bonus there.

When I was in my 30’s my mom surprised my brother, sister and I at a holiday family gathering with old Momentos and pictures from our childhoods. She pulled out some pictures and then immediately reminded me of how awkward not only the 80s and 90s were but I was as a teenager in the 90s.
These photos were of skinny 13-year-old me with no shirt on holding all these metals I got from baseball and soccer. Not even the first place medals but gold/silver and bronze all around my neck and draped over my arms like I was an Olympic champion.
Other pictures were me wearing a gold chain.
Not only did I take these pictures of myself but I remember I used to send these out to girls I met online back when chat rooms were first really big.
    What an awkward time.

I watched the documentary about bed bugs and when a hotel has a bed bug problem they will often times bring in a company that will put equipment in each room that will heat the room up to over 130°. That will kill every bed bug and kill their eggs. It works way better than foggers.

From what I’ve read, companies that ask you to “round up” for charity, use that money they collect as a charitable deduction. So yes, charities get the money, but these large corporations get a tax write off without ever actually spending their own money.

A quick note regarding the charitable donations at the register. The companies CAN'T claim that as a tax deduction, although that is commonly believed. The companies will work with a charity they want to support and your donation does not have any impact on the stores taxes, it goes directly to the charity. These campaigns are actually very successful and have raised a ton of money for charities, so if it is one you want to support it is basically a quick and easy way to donate to them. In fact, the donation will actually be on your receipt and you'll be able to deduct it on your taxes (although I never remember to do that...)

    Hello folks!
On our way up to Maine, my family and I stayed at Hilton in Nashville after being on the road for nearly 11 hours. We managed to check in to the room and get our things inside the room. We walked out to grab a few more things from our vehicle and came back to find out the battery died on the lock to the door. We had to wait for over an hour and a half in the hallway with our two small children. The “technician” came and opened the door with a metal hanger he unraveled and slid underneath the door to open it from the inside.
    Love the podcast!

I was already getting the heebie-jeebies because the office was in a separate building from the rooms ... then just before handing me the key, the desk clerk says "now, do you have life insurance?" I was so startled by the question that we literally stared at each other silently for 30 seconds before I slowly said "yeeeesss??" Then I took the key, went to my room and put everything I could in front of the door ... luggage, chair, ironing board.

I’m almost positive when companies “round up your purchase” they actually just charge the customer whatever that amount is. Then, at the end of the year, however much money was made in donation charges is donated to the charity of choice, BUT IN THE COMPANIES NAME. Meaning they get all the benefits & perks of some huge write off, but they never actually donated any of their own money. Not to mention they now have allll that extra interest free capital to work with for the entire year.

Sounds kind of like a win win. The company is helped and the charity still gets money. Just wish the companies would stop acting so high and mighty about it but I guess they are facilitating some money going to a charity, even if they have ulterior motives.

When I was a kid we stayed at the beach the week after a minor hurricane had come through with no major damage, just some minor flooding. We were staying on like the 4th or 5th floor of this hotel. After a long day of traveling we all plopped down on our respective beds to chill for a few. Within minutes my Mom started accusing me and my Dad of passing gas, which was a legitimate concern, but not true. We were not flatulating. But she kept complaining that she smelled poop. This went on for a while. She eventually called housekeeping and they blamed it on the hurricane saying it was probably mildew from the flooding. We knew the flood waters hadn't reached the 4th floor so we asked for housekeeping to come up and investigate further. While we waited my Mom pulled back the sheets on her side of the mattress and to our shock there was a huge BROWN SKIDMARK down the side of the mattress! The cause of the poop smell revealed! When housekeeping arrived she continued the "mildew" narrative until we pointed out the skid mark. She then put her nose directly down to the brown stain and winced and said, "That ain't mildew...that's DooDoo!" We changed rooms ...

In 10 seconds, Nate and Dusty were able to completely bungle the very concept of math with these gems:
    - from "1 in 10" (aka 10%) to "1 in 9"(aka 11%) means they had less people to ask
    - instead of "1 in 9" (11%) just say "2 in 10" (20%)
    - instead of "1 in 9" just say "1 in 5" (also 20%)
Keep up the good work guys

As a Newport News adjacent resident, I suggest next time you just crash at my house in Virginia Beach. Fresh black towels. Jack and Jill bathrooms, and all the fixins of a 5-star establishment, except for the sheer terror you’ll feel at 5 in the morning when my small children stand over you watching you sleep until you wake up and are given the level of heart attack only a small child can give you just before dawn.

My wife and I went and saw Aaron and Bates in Woodstock, it was such a great show! Before we went I told my wife I think we should wear our Nate Rain Check shirts we bought when we saw him last year in Greenville. My wife thought maybe it would be weird to wear another comedian’s shirt to a show but I was able to convince her it would be fine. After the show we get in line to buy merch and the guys comment on our shirts and I ask if it’s ok we’re wearing them and they say oh ya, of course, no big deal. Then we walk away and see the opener, Andrew, and tell him we enjoyed his bit. He immediately says “oh, so you’re wearing another comedian’s shirt to a comic show?” Definitely heard it from the wife on the ride home.

She has a hunch they are escaping with her two boys who travel to their dad's once or twice each week. They deny this could be the case and their dad isn't acknowledging an increased inventory of broken in towels so this chip idea could prove her theory. Love the program. Looking forward to seeing Dusty in KC later this year.

Hey, fellas, enjoying the show, it's always just a nice laid back mellowed vibe. Anyway, as to what Brain was talking about at the beginning- you should look up the story of Micheal Dick and his daughter. Long story short, he went looking for his estranged Daughter, an ad was put in the paper with a picture of the dad taken by the paper, and the daughter is coincidently caught in the picture.

I don’t have anything interesting to say about hotels but I’m going to see Nate in Edmonton, Alberta Canada this Saturday and I’m just so freaking excited. He has been on my bucket list of comedians for such a long time so thank you for coming to Canada on this tour! The show will be long done by the time anyone reads this I’m sure, but I already know it’s gonna be a great time.
Keep up the great work on the pod guys. I look forward to Wednesdays because I know I’ll laugh out loud so many times each episode. Sincerely, a Canadian “Folk”

Dusty was being tested for H pylori. Its is called an H. pylori breath test and involves breathing into a balloon-like bag. It's a safe and easy way to detect H. pylori bacteria, diagnosis H. pylori infection, and determine if treatment cured the infection. H. pylori infection is a major cause of peptic ulcer disease. Its presence also increases your risk of gastritis and stomach cancer.

I got the opportunity to preach at Barton’s Creek Baptist Church in Lebanon last weekend and opened up with a hearty “Hello folks!”. Didn’t get a big reaction. Going to keep trying it. Living where Brian is from I was hoping someone might pick up on it.

I related so much to this weeks episode different areas.
    1. Hotel- We went to a hotel and had to move a chair to set up a playpen as soon as we got there. I saw something black in the corner. Not thinking, I full handed grabbed and picked it up. I then realized it was a pair of men's underwear from the previous guest! I picked it up with my full hand!
    2. We didn't grown up with much and also had a 2bedroom house with a small den/office area. Our living room served as my parent's bedroom and the living room. Growing up, my mom would constantly change the furniture around. I never thought about it being like a new house every time she did it. I just thought she was nuts. She still lives in the house and every time we visit, the furniture is different. Also bedrooms are all changed around. I think she has claimed every room as her bedroom at some point.
    3. Also, growing up in humid south Texas, we had to set off roach bombs every so often. You set them off all over the house, leave for a couple of hours then come back to clean all the little dead roach bodies up. I never remember washing any bedsheets or anything afterwards so maybe that explains a lot now.
I'm learning more about myself and my childhood experiences now that Dusty has joined the show!

The first time I used an uber I was in Chicago. I had little experience with taxis even and when he pulled up I got right in the front seat. Didn't think about it being wrong until way later even though he had to move his tissue box and papers he had in the front seat. I think this made him comfortable though because in stopped traffic on the highway he pulled onto the shoulder to drive up next to a cool car. Then he cut that person off from the shoulder. Good guy. 5 stars

Graphic designer here to give a bit of typography input. The 'Open' in OpenDyslexic referes to the fact that it is an open-source typeface - similar to Open Sans, a typeface widely used across the internet.
Something that may help Nate's reading on the podcast is adjusting the typography of the show notes. The default font on Microsoft Word is 12-point Calibri, but I would suggest trying something like Arial at a 14-point size or more since it has a taller x-height that helps with character size. Also, justify the text instead of aligning left - this creates a cleaner, easier to navigate block of text. You could also try to place the text in columns like a magazine. This creates shorter line lengths and minimizes how far the eyes have to jump from the end of one line to the beginning of the next.

That is SO COOL Aaron. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. It may not seem like alot now but like nate said in 25 years it will be really cool and will have alot of meaning and if, no when you make it big your biographer will be able to do something awesome with that maybe not so much the keys but with the dates and places and probably a few important keys 1st and big events crowd wise and meaningful wise. I hope you continue it till you retire

Growing up my family had to stay in a motel between apartments. We walked in the room and there were about 8 or 9 bullet holes in the wall above the headboard. My mom mentioned it to the front desk and the 80 year old high attendant said, "Dont worry. No one was hit or even killed so its ok." Needless to say, we checked out right away. JHS

The Gideons used to come to church and make presentations looking for donations. As kids it was always frustrating because I thought church was done and I would be able to watch the NFL pregame show, but then... SURPRISE! Here's a guy talking for an extra 15 minutes!
This of course doesn't take away from the fact that they were good guys and have a great mission.
Also Gideon is a neat Bible character. He has a complete story arc in the book of Judges.
    I'll go proofread this now.

I traveled all over the US with competitive gymnastics and collected hotel key cards along the way. My friend's families and my extended family knew about it and would bring me key cards after they went on their own trips. I never knew how many I had in total, definitely over a thousand. Would have submitted to have the world record if I knew that was a thing.
In college, I had an assignment in my art class where we had to create something without using traditional art supplies. I used the cards to make a sculpture. I kept that for a few weeks before it started falling apart. I was going through a minimizing phase and ended up tossing it. Oh well.

Wait, I thought the TV was to prevent the break in?!?

Something that is very interesting about hotels is that a LOT of hotels in the US are owned by Indian Americans with the last name Patel. This is because the first person who came over from India bought a hotel lived and worked in it with his family, and would bring more family members over and teach them the industry until they were ready to have thier own. It allowed them a place to live work and raise their families.

One time when I checked into a hotel & entered my room the first time & began to make sure it was clean I found several large hairs in the sheets, so I went to ask the cleaning lady in the hall way if I could get some clean sheets. She asked me what room I was in & then said, "Oh I just cleaned that room. That's probably my hair." She acted as if that was a valid response & settled everything. So after I looked at her perplexed I walked to the front desk & asked for a new room. When I came back to get my stuff & then went into a new room, she got offended that I didn't want to stay in the original room with her hair all in the sheets. I'm still baffled at that woman's thought process.

Escalators are down due to maintenance and parts cost because of the covid situation. So it’s easier just to shut them down than to pay for regular maintenance since only specific companies can repair them.

Nate is definitely not alone in not being able to focus or remember things he reads or movies he watches. There is some research linking social media, online articles, and short news clips with a decline in our ability to pay attention to anything longer than a few minutes. We have trained our brains to focus for a few seconds and then move on to something else. The only idea for a cure is to read longer articles or books to retrain ourselves. There was book called Amusing Ourselves to Death that came out in 1985 that talked about this trend beginning with the nighttime news replacing newspapers. Can’t imagine what that author would think about life today!
