I've lost count of how many times, during the early 90's, when I had multiple chances to buy this body style Celica at next to nothing prices. I kick myself every time I see one now.
Yeah, any car modifications that falls into the "trend" category, is just a bad idea. This one here isn't how I would have mine but it looks purposeful.
Checked out this smaller car-event today and saw an all original(except for the '70:s alloys which were under it) light green first-gen Celica there. Oh yeah, two 240Z:s were parked side by side at the gathering also. All in all, it was a good mix of US rides, Euros and Japanese cars.
Not a toyata fan but thst car is sweet. By the way that missing head light may not be so much cold air but actual ram air . That was common on American muscle cars and actually the ford thunder bolt used high beam bezels for dual ram air .
I think, and I DO think, that TA23 is for the liftback, and TA22 is the notchback model. Though there are little differences, they're still first generation. I may be right or wrong on this one. And as for the missing headlight, that's another version for Ram Air induction, to promote cooling, and force more air into the intake. Just as we have our ways of making power, Japanese tuners have theirs. I respect that.
Not sure if already mentioned but that looks like an RA23. TA23 and RA23 both being the same shape with just the engine being the difference. This one with its 2000GT badge leading me to believe that it is equipped with the 18RG 2.0L DOHC twin Solex carb motor. The TA23 would have the 2TG 1.6L DOHC twin carb engine carried over from the TA22. The lift back variants of the xA23 are the RA25, RA28 and RA29. I used to have an RA23 and my sister an RA28 but with the crap ADM 18RC SOHC engine.
Sweet looking Celica! But the rear spoiler has me in questions!! Looks more like the duck tail spoiler from a Pontiac Trans-am/Firebird or a '70 Chevy Camaro instead! Non the less, it looks pretty awesome! Thinking of doing the same to mine since these rear wings are pretty much ghosts nowadays!! 8^)
I would love to get my hands on a 1st gen like this one. I myself have a 3rd gen gts hatch and love that thing but it is so damn hard to find parts for it. Hopefully jz swap but have not decided which one. Thinking the headlight funnel is because it could be boosted and the turbo is right behind the funnel.
I have a friend with a US spec coupe here in the states that looks almost exactly like this car. To my knowledge the only difference in the US coupes is the bulkier bumpers to comply with crash safety laws. AFAIK the actual body is identical.
No 1st-get GT Coupes in the US? I probably shouldn't be surprised. Most of the sportier stuff that Japanese manufactures produced never got over there. (Excluding later imports of course.)
different engines 18R (if I'm correct because of regulations) had a ST double barrel, my first car and the best & most fun one to drive Ford Sierra's and fast Mercs couldn't keep up especially driving fast on winding roads, stick-ed like glue on the road mine
To the best of my memory, it was a regular gt with a flat hood and different rear tail lights and a small 1.6 L two barrel carb. May be it was a left over 76 model ??? Looked like the 2000GT but shorter body wise. Very little over hang over the front or rear. And a very small trunk.^_^
There are some cosmetic differences in TA and RA series Celicas. If its TA it would mean T series 1.6L and 1.8L engines in 3 different configs. This Celica should be 18RG series 2.0L engine as stated by the badge. Unless the back exhaust is as big as the engine is, it could be some updated transplant of some modern turbo engine. The back duck tail spoiler is quite rare aftermarket item if not customized one. This is more of a Camaro than a Mustang really.
Funny I open up the page and see that as the new video and I'm like HELLLOO NURSE! anyways with the specs bit, I've found the best way to keep it all together and all that is to actually see what the numbers and options are referring to. Like with the new uglier corvette, the ZR51 package is the sports handling package that has taken many forms, and now features a dry sump italian style oil system to help keep the engine lubricated at high G's at the price of daily driving ability
as it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to fully warm up and you do not want to drive the car hard until it is warmed up or you WILL damage the engine and transmission along with magnetic shocks that make a hell of a difference in the way it handles watch?v=48m1_otpD9c which is what all of the new C7 test cars have been equipped with, even though its a 2 + K option on it and is NOT stock at all on it meaning anyone caught unaware will not know of this and get stuck with the lesser performing car
please does anyone know where I can buy such a rear spoiler in 3 parts: 1?? I have a toyota celica 1975, looking for 3 years for just such a spoiler please link here =)
The front grille is from an ST. I wonder if the car is a ST and they swapped the rear panel for one from a GT 2000, Or is a GT and it now has the ST grille. I have a 76 RA24 ST coupe.
+beatnick35 I don't have an answer for you but by some amazing co-incidence just a few days ago I connected with the owner on instagram: instagram.com/p/_x5THGpwx_/?taken-by=510blue
+WasabiCars Following some of your other vids/cars, I am very envious of you being able to view classic J-tin with your own eyes, even better that you can speak with the owners in some cases!
Nice 1st generation Toyota Celica coupe. If they had offered this model in US, I would have bought it instead of the VW Scirocco. At the time all they offered was the hatch back and regular two door models which looked tiny and not anywhere as good look as this 2000 GT Celica. I have to agree, it does look like a 1st generation Camaro with the rear spoiler or duck wing aka Porsche. And I also agree about the missing headlight being for cold air induction for the carb.'s. ^_^
Yea, the coupe they sold over here was nowhere as good looking as the 2000GT Celica in your picture. The front grill with the twin head light was the same, but the body was very short, almost compacted, one would say. O.o
Thank you for venturing where no car guys are willing to go! Everybody is so obsessed with fire breathing 2JZ's stuffed in cars they dont belong in and slammed "drift" cars to look at some truly beautiful cars.
seems that Japanese guys know what to do to make theirs cars faster and easier to handle. here instead, they add some accessories that make them look like that movie, that I never watched called "fast and furious" and they look odd... like the picture of that 70's Volvo I sent to you. HAHAHA!!! but that was too much "tuning" I guess :P
why in every vid you downgrade yourself like your piss poor at knowing cars? I have seen some of the most unique cars E VER MADE in your vids. so you do know what your looking at. dont play dumb teacher LOL. I almost want to say your doing that because you are a teacher and its part of you to try and leave it open for "US" to learn from?? such cool cars in these vids. thanks for taking the time to share!!
Hahaha. I really aren't that clever. Seriously,my interest in cars is general (I like all cars) and so is my knowledge (I just know the basics.) It's true, I swear. But, thanks for the compliments. :)
I've lost count of how many times, during the early 90's, when I had multiple chances to buy this body style Celica at next to nothing prices. I kick myself every time I see one now.
Sweet looking car. I've always liked first gen Toyota Celicas.
This is one of my favourite cars that you have showed us. This is surprisingly one of my build inspirations
Cool. :)
As a Celica owner myself...I freaking love these cars!! The GTV you posted also is hot! Great job man! I'm one of your biggest fans!
Thanks, Mario. Really appreciate your comment. I've still got some more amazing Celicas to post too. :D
Yeah, any car modifications that falls into the "trend" category, is just a bad idea. This one here isn't how I would have mine but it looks purposeful.
awful spoiler, you're right
This one is awesome!
My husband @arulraj like this so much that car.. Cant find anymore
This is my new favorite car featured on this channel..
Thanks, man. Appreciate your support. :D
Thanks, Ben.
WOW, it is beautiful! Just the way I like old Celicas.
now that's a great looking car, looks tough as hell, another great find, keep em coming :)
Thanks, Manny. :)

Thanks wasabi all your videos are awsome
Thank you! It is a beauty, though rough. :)
Once again, your comments have blown me away. Actually, I wonder if you aren't right on the ball with the finish on those rims.
Thanks. :)
Sweet. Sounds like my kinda car-show. :)
Not a toyata fan but thst car is sweet. By the way that missing head light may not be so much cold air but actual ram air . That was common on American muscle cars and actually the ford thunder bolt used high beam bezels for dual ram air .
Cool, thanks for your insight. :)
Thanks, man. I really should have has this video up over a year ago. Sorry it took so long. :/
Pure awesome. I'm going to have to agree with the "Japanese Camaro" statement.

Thanks! I'd have to agree. :)
Awesome I know a guy here in nz that has a ta22 sexy cars awsome vid keep up the good work I check for updates daily
Thanks. I'll be taking note of your comment because I'm sure I'll need it in the future. :/
Beautiful car great video Daniel mate ;)
Toyota Celica `77 TA23 (long nose) TA22=short nose and other signal lights and dashboard
For sure. I can see that too. :)
One reason is privacy. The other reason is that I didn't take enough care when removing the numbers. :/ Oh, and the red stripe is a temporary plate.
Yeah, it does have that style. Personally, I like that it's a bit different.
Thank you! :)
Not sure if already mentioned but that looks like an RA23. TA23 and RA23 both being the same shape with just the engine being the difference. What does the red slash on the number plate signify?
SSR MkII's. Love that satiny finish. :)
ooh thanks!! i didn't know than those plates where temporary, haha
& that stripe looks cool :D
good channel btw, i always watch your videos...
They are temporary plates, like having a trade/dealer plate or an unregistered permit over here.
I have a friend with a US spec coupe here in the states that looks almost exactly like this car. To my knowledge the only difference in the US coupes is the bulkier bumpers to comply with crash safety laws. AFAIK the actual body is identical.
oohhh i love it and that c210 teasing me
Being a 2000GT it would have an 18RG under the hood. The funnel moves air to the velocity stacks on the carbs.
i own a ta22 and love it. does anyone know what wing that is?
No 1st-get GT Coupes in the US? I probably shouldn't be surprised. Most of the sportier stuff that Japanese manufactures produced never got over there. (Excluding later imports of course.)

'77 ST black like this one, driven in 1988 The Netherlands
owner of a 25th anniversary myself, and as much as i love mine id damn near kill for one of these first gens!
It is a beauty. ;-)
It's a really nice car! :D
RA23 なかなか珍しいですね~
バンパーと一体型のウインカーが堪らんです

Hey wasabi do you see a lot of toyota supras (93-98) and if you do can you make a video please
Funny I open up the page and see that as the new video and I'm like HELLLOO NURSE!

Does anyone know anything about importing a old Japanese car to the uk?
Oh, yeah. The TA23 was a slip of the tongue, which proved my point. That I'm useless with chassis codes. :/
Aren't Ta's coupes and Ra's liftbacks?
Hayashi Racing rims? R22 motor? Nice ride.
Glad you like. :)
please does anyone know where I can buy such a rear spoiler in 3 parts: 1?? I have a toyota celica 1975, looking for 3 years for just such a spoiler please link here =)
Sorry, I don't know. Good luck in your search.
That really looks like a 2nd gen Chevrolet Camaro spoiler, 77-81.
The front grille is from an ST. I wonder if the car is a ST and they swapped the rear panel for one from a GT 2000, Or is a GT and it now has the ST grille. I have a 76 RA24 ST coupe.

S52年だとRA35になるとおもいます自分が乗っていたので
RA23はS49年後期からS50年前期だったですね
書類なしを13年前までもっていたので
I don't actually. And, to be honest, it's a little too new for Wasabicars. Fear not. If I see nice one, I'll shoot a vid. :)
Nice 1st generation Toyota Celica coupe. If they had offered this model in US, I would have bought it instead of the VW Scirocco. Goddamn that car look great
the coupe looks like a first gen Camaro while the lift back reminds me of a 69 or 70 Mustang fastback
why some plates have a red line?? and other cars don't?
but look great anyways haha :D
i was told it's a mechanic/repairman license plate?
Yea, the coupe they sold over here was nowhere as good looking as the 2000GT Celica in your picture. The front grill with the twin head light was the same, but the body was very short, almost compacted, one would say. O.o
Oh those sexy four spoke wheels
I guess its a RA28 :/
Yeah, looks like an RA23 to me :)
Its called an Intake funnal ... It pretty much gets better cooling air than instead of sucking hot tamed air in the engine bay
Thanks. ;-)
Hehe. It was unintentional teasing. :)
Haha, this could be as close as I get. ;-)
Hahaha. I can just imagine what people would be hearing. "Get out of the way!"
Nope, TA and RA are simply the engine models. TA have 2T, 2TG, 3T etc.. engines. RA have 18rg etc.
Thank you for venturing where no car guys are willing to go! Everybody is so obsessed with fire breathing 2JZ's stuffed in cars they dont belong in and slammed "drift" cars to look at some truly beautiful cars.
Thank you so much. Happy to hear you like. Good call too. I'm not a big fan of all that other stuff.
Disappointing but understandable. Looking around, I don't see any cars that will be considered "classics" in 20 years. :/
Hahaha. Now, you KNOW I'm useless with car names/chassis codes. :/
Omg. I wAaaaant

Ahhh ok gotcha.
