    I've lost count of how many times, during the early 90's, when I had multiple chances to buy this body style Celica at next to nothing prices. I kick myself every time I see one now.

    Yeah, any car modifications that falls into the "trend" category, is just a bad idea. This one here isn't how I would have mine but it looks purposeful.

    Checked out this smaller car-event today and saw an all original(except for the '70:s alloys which were under it) light green first-gen Celica there. Oh yeah, two 240Z:s were parked side by side at the gathering also. All in all, it was a good mix of US rides, Euros and Japanese cars.

    Not a toyata fan but thst car is sweet. By the way that missing head light may not be so much cold air but actual ram air . That was common on American muscle cars and actually the ford thunder bolt used high beam bezels for dual ram air .

    I think, and I DO think, that TA23 is for the liftback, and TA22 is the notchback model. Though there are little differences, they're still first generation. I may be right or wrong on this one. And as for the missing headlight, that's another version for Ram Air induction, to promote cooling, and force more air into the intake. Just as we have our ways of making power, Japanese tuners have theirs. I respect that.

    Not sure if already mentioned but that looks like an RA23. TA23 and RA23 both being the same shape with just the engine being the difference. This one with its 2000GT badge leading me to believe that it is equipped with the 18RG 2.0L DOHC twin Solex carb motor. The TA23 would have the 2TG 1.6L DOHC twin carb engine carried over from the TA22. The lift back variants of the xA23 are the RA25, RA28 and RA29. I used to have an RA23 and my sister an RA28 but with the crap ADM 18RC SOHC engine.

    Sweet looking Celica! But the rear spoiler has me in questions!! Looks more like the duck tail spoiler from a Pontiac Trans-am/Firebird or a '70 Chevy Camaro instead! Non the less, it looks pretty awesome! Thinking of doing the same to mine since these rear wings are pretty much ghosts nowadays!! 8^)

    I would love to get my hands on a 1st gen like this one. I myself have a 3rd gen gts hatch and love that thing but it is so damn hard to find parts for it. Hopefully jz swap but have not decided which one. Thinking the headlight funnel is because it could be boosted and the turbo is right behind the funnel.

    I have a friend with a US spec coupe here in the states that looks almost exactly like this car. To my knowledge the only difference in the US coupes is the bulkier bumpers to comply with crash safety laws. AFAIK the actual body is identical.

    No 1st-get GT Coupes in the US? I probably shouldn't be surprised. Most of the sportier stuff that Japanese manufactures produced never got over there. (Excluding later imports of course.)

    To the best of my memory, it was a regular gt with a flat hood and different rear tail lights and a small 1.6 L two barrel carb. May be it was a left over 76 model ??? Looked like the 2000GT but shorter body wise. Very little over hang over the front or rear. And a very small trunk.^_^

  • @netmatrix75
    @netmatrix75 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are some cosmetic differences in TA and RA series Celicas. If its TA it would mean T series 1.6L and 1.8L engines in 3 different configs. This Celica should be 18RG series 2.0L engine as stated by the badge. Unless the back exhaust is as big as the engine is, it could be some updated transplant of some modern turbo engine. The back duck tail spoiler is quite rare aftermarket item if not customized one. This is more of a Camaro than a Mustang really.

    Hey wasabi do you see a lot of toyota supras (93-98) and if you do can you make a video please

  • @kavinskysmith4094
    @kavinskysmith4094 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Funny I open up the page and see that as the new video and I'm like HELLLOO NURSE!
    anyways with the specs bit, I've found the best way to keep it all together and all that is to actually see what the numbers and options are referring to.
    Like with the new uglier corvette, the ZR51 package is the sports handling package that has taken many forms, and now features a dry sump italian style oil system to help keep the engine lubricated at high G's at the price of daily driving ability

  • @kavinskysmith4094
    @kavinskysmith4094 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    as it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to fully warm up and you do not want to drive the car hard until it is warmed up or you WILL damage the engine and transmission
    along with magnetic shocks that make a hell of a difference in the way it handles
    watch?v=48m1_otpD9c
    which is what all of the new C7 test cars have been equipped with, even though its a 2 + K option on it and is NOT stock at all on it
    meaning anyone caught unaware will not know of this and get stuck with the lesser performing car

  • @oldboygarage

    The front grille is from an ST. I wonder if the car is a ST and they swapped the rear panel for one from a GT 2000, Or is a GT and it now has the ST grille. I have a 76 RA24 ST coupe.

    Nice 1st generation Toyota Celica coupe. If they had offered this model in US, I would have bought it instead of the VW Scirocco. At the time all they offered was the hatch back and regular two door models which looked tiny and not anywhere as good look as this 2000 GT Celica. I have to agree, it does look like a 1st generation Camaro with the rear spoiler or duck wing aka Porsche. And I also agree about the missing headlight being for cold air induction for the carb.'s. ^_^

HAHAHA!!! but that was too much "tuning" I guess :P
