  • A couple things to note:
    - the Weber carb I mentioned is actually a 38 series.. not a 32/36 (thanks Tommy)
    - I interviewed myself... so it was just me standing there talking to no one lol
    - silica is not pronounced the same way Europeans pronounce Celica, it was just a joke :)
    - I like to dip my lumpia in sriracha

    This is an old video I made last year that wasn't intended for my TH-cam channel, but since I haven't put out anything in a while I figured.. sure why not.

    I owned a 1977 Toyota Celica back in 1981. Great car. Loved the ESP system, which I thought was ahead of its time. It had the 20R engine which gave me no problems what so ever. And yes, the car was brown! It had the 5 speed tranny in it and believe it or not, I got the car up to about 130 mph while driving in the middle of the night to Dallas Texas! Thanks for sharing your video.

    *People laugh when they here that a 95hp engine was made to compete with the Mustang.. But remember, the base model Mustangs of this time had larger displacement 4 cyl's that not only had lower power than the Celica GT, but weighed more, handled poorer, and even a base model Mustang still costed more than a nice Celica. *

    "Celica", "Silica", tom-ato, toma-to haha. I call it either way. On another note, that's a lot of Drive Town Hachi Rokus/Mangos, I've only just gotten the bug to collect more of them.

    • @n0eLoL
      @n0eLoL  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went to a bunch of ToysRus and just bought them all out. If I can find the rare "classic" ones that would be nice.

    • @VWGTHK
      @VWGTHK 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only place I've found them is either at a small store in my homecity (Hong Kong) or on eBay. eBay ones unfortunately already cost $15-20 USD plus another $10 for shipping. Did also grab a few from the Toyota museum when I went to Nagoya for my grad trip.

    • @n0eLoL
      @n0eLoL  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah ebay ones are going for 15-20 PLUS shipping which is another 12.. crazy crazy..
      I noticed the Trueno from the Toyota museum has Watanabes versus the Drive town version has some generic ugly looking mesh wheels.

    Maybe it's a Canadian thing to pronounce it Celica (like the packet at the end). Anyhow...always wanted one as my older brother had one just like urs crept he painted it with marine enamel using a roller...not good...rusted from the inside out...dang salty Canadian winters

    • @n0eLoL
      @n0eLoL  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      its tough, them old Japanese cars were made with some piss poor metals. The ones here on Hawaii rust out due to the salt in the air from the ocean.

  • @zone47
    @zone47 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They pretty much killed the Celica with the lame 78-81 styling even though it was a good running car. The 82 GT model with the flairs (later to be called the GTS) was a nice upgrade and then of course the 82-86.5 Supra was the best of the series. Even the mid to late 90s Celicas were awesome cars if you could get past the front end funky styling. Something happened in the 2000s and Toyota forgot how to style a good looking car. Too bad. I love the 71 - 77s and wish I could find a good example.

  • @roytrudgian4786
    @roytrudgian4786 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fact this model in Australia is the L.T. with a single down draft sole daul throat. The S.T which this maybe with the grill shape, had twin sole carberators. Both had wood grain dash faces. S.T had full integration dash.
    G.T, Had a twin cam engine, some had the Yamaha head. Bigger valves and cams. Other was twin cam, which came as was. Both dual side draft twin bore solex carberators. In Australia we didn't have the bumpers and the intercators as America which are extremely ugly. But that's governments.

    They always said that mimicry was the greatest form of flattery, and to be fair. Toyota copying the Ford Mustang is definitely this as although it looks like a direct copy it was itself its own car, with its own performance and had a good number of followers and to this day the car is beloved.
    Its ironic then that in a strange way, Toyota accidently created the actual Ford Pinto. Fords Pinto was a disaster of a economic car when it came out. Concept designs showed it to be pretty much a more economical mustang. Yet they screwed up the design and cut cost essentially making it a Gremlin and poorer performing than the gremlin.
    Yet here is a Toyota that pretty much embraces the muscle car legacy of the Ford Mustang.

    Nice car. But honestly only America would mispronounce something and call the rest of the world wrong. Go to the source if in doubt. Check the pronunciation in Japan from the original ads. Plus while you are at it coupe is French it’s not a chicken coup. Of course say it however you like but those are variations there is a correct version.
