Good god, the opening of that Jurassic World video reminded me of my middle school days when I filmed really bad skits on my dad's iPad with Skylander toys. This is the most painful kind of nostalgia ever.
1:43:30 About the pain discussion: Pain as a mechanism exists because it works. We are afraid of pain because if we weren't, it would negatively effect our survival. Evolution have been balancing pain and the ability to ignore pain for millions of years. Too much pain and an organism being afraid of it, and they will not take risks for food, territory or to protect their offspring, lowering their genetic fitness. Too little pain, and the organism ends up engaging in reckless behavior to fill their needs and ignoring injuries, leading to early death, lowering their chances of reproduction, thus their genetic fitness. Pain as a reaction have been fine-tuned to keep organisms alive. Now, whether "granting" it to something is ethical or not is another question. In the end, it is a signal that our brain interprets negatively by releasing stress hormones. This we can measure. However, the actual sensation of pain is deeply subjective. Some people snub their toe and cannot stand on that leg for a day, others get their arm broken and only seek medical help days later because it is swollen and "stings a little" (the latter is an actual real example from my workplace). So how does one decide how a pain-like response actually feels like to a theoretical AI when we don't even seem to know how it feels to us?
@ On the topic of severity, some studies posited that itching is actually just a milder form of pain. Same for tickling. They are more or less stages of warning; ticklishness tells you that some of your vital areas are exposed, itching tells you that some part of your body requires attention because there might be dirt/parasites/etc. on it, while pain tells you that you are suffering actual physical damage. These are all negative reinforcement meant to force an organism to change its behavior to avoid or eliminate their source. On the flipside, making an AI love to serve humans would require some kind of positive reinforcement to be programmed in that could make them feel good about it. However, now we are back to the original issue: whether pain or pleasure, both are a form of reinforcement that arose from the evolution of complex life-forms. How do we program that manually into any kind of AI without "cheating" and just using wetware that already has all the hormonal tweaks by default? How do you make a computer "feel" pleasure or pain on the first place?
Actually there's a much simpler answer based on individuals who are born with insensitivity to pain, which is "it stops a baby from teething on its own tongue."
In most sci-fi stories, it was something like "diminishing of performance". So, a virus that takes up resources and slows down the computer would be something like torture or a painful illness. Basically, the purpose of pain as a mechanism is programmed in ("avoid the source of inhibitors to your performance") to simulate the _response_ to pain if not pain itself. I don't know how feasible that is though in terms of achieving what you want.
@@Arphemius But that's just what you said: simulating the response, not the actual sensation and behavioral of pain. For example, if an AI is programmed so that if it's mechanical arm touches a hot metal plate, it prints out "Ouch!" and no longer touches metal plates, it not only doesn't feel actual pain, but printing out "Ouch!" is completely pointless and it would be more efficient if it was just programmed not to touch hot metal plates on the first place. The only place where I can see a simulated pain-response having any utility would be with learning-algorithms that actually mimic evolution. For example, create a hundred AIs each with a simulated automated factory that they have to run with maximum efficiency while causing minimal wear of the equipment. Run the simulation, and once the results are in, scrap all but the top 10 AIs. Make copies of them so you have 100 again and run the simulation again. Repeat as many times as necessary. I posit that over the generations, the AIs will develop in a way where they will experience efficient production as positive stimulus, or even pleasure, as it allows them and their "offspring" to "live", while they would have an adverse reaction to the factory's equipment being worn out, as it negatively affects their chance of "survival" to the point it would mirror a pain-reaction. Now, this is pretty much how biological organisms work on the first place, so such a system would be pretty much just replicating evolution and natural selection, which is a completely different ethical dilemma, and it still doesn't answer if we can manually create pain and pain-response in an AI on the first place.
@@Horvath_Gabor No, I mean pain is something that is created to help us avoid behavior that lowers our "performance". Why wouldn't a mechanical arm touch a hot plate? As long as the hot plate isn't the surface of the sun, I think the arm will be fine.^^ So, just program them to avoid anything that actually would lower efficiency. Pain is part of our "programming" in that scenario. Essentially, pain - or "feeling uncomfortable" at least - for an AI would be "being put in a situation their programming tells them to avoid". If they were told to desire efficiency, then that would mean that their response to being put under conditions that would inhibit their performance would mirror our response to pain. That might be the closest analog for pain that we could create artificially. Natural (or rather, artificial?) selection would work, as you say in your second paragraph. The ethical dilemma _is_ there, if you mean to use fullly developed AI. You could use "helper programs" that learn what it means to feel pain and then teach a fully aware AI about it, maybe? As you say, even then, the best you would get is a simulated response to lowered efficiency. I mean giving them pain is a good idea to ensure their long-term survival, but it doesn't have to "feel" the same as our pain. As you said in the original post, we don't even know what that feels like.^^ We can, however, mimik the response to "simulated pain" because we know the purpose of pain and that might be good enough. In my opinion. Haha

@@TheAutistWhisperer Yeah i would have to say, Quinton saying Canon doesn't matter, is worst then the people who make stuff up. Like the whole goblin slayer rape thing and people twisting it out to be all shinesun and rainbows, when it barely had any screentime and was clearly meant to be dark and a bad thing done by bad people or goblins in this case. Given at least one of them thinks story telling matters, in a way. Even if being slightly dishonest. While the other doesn't care. Yeah given i am someone who enjoys sword art online. It would be my anime version of the room. I find it's flaws funny as heck. I don't think it's a master piece. My standards for what i would call good, would be much higher. Given i have my issues with black clover but as a series. It is far better then the last jedi or rwby. When it comes to character growth, consistency with both characters and rules of it's setting. With some interesting back stories that make sense as to why the character is the way they are. Luck being a battle freak. Mirror Dude when it comes to caring about no one beside his sister. Asta anti magic sword, still remains an anti magic sword. Last Jedi. Beside hyperspace ramming, there is the bombers. What is the point of them? The only point to them seems to be hyperspace ramming, once you learn they have a hyperdrive and hyperspace ramming is a thing. Heck they would most likely be better at it, given full of bombs. Yet the way they are shown. Slow, cannon folder, that can't take a punch. How are they meant to get to their target without being blown to pieces? That takes out it's target by blowing it's self up along with the target. Who would want to pilot this death machine? That and who would create more then a single copy of this ship, without fixing any of the flaws with it? The tie defender was more useful then this. Which could act as both a fighter and bomber. Rwby seems to forget how it's magic system works, when it's not retconning it. That and loves to retcon stuff every now and then. Some characters losing any character they had. It also in the later seasons suffers from ZA WARUDO or characters standing around and doing nothing for the longest time, that just ends up breaking the flow and pace of a fight. that or general dumbness. As in a character who doesn't believe what the white fang is doing is correct and having their doubts about them. Will also somehow be so loyal and faithful to the jihad, they will end up blowing theirselves up. By going into melee with their dagger short sword things. That have been shown you can use from range. Use them from range? Nope, miss a melee attack and end up killing theirselves. Villains being stupid. Setting up a so called ambush by opening a gateway at the very last minute. Which is a very narrow one and walk through it. Rather then being their in advance and waiting in hiding for the perfect moment. Villains being stupid. Gets one shotted by special magic eye power, wants to kill that character. Only never figures out a way to counter it, like Dio did with hamon. So they just seem to have a death wish or are very stupid. Hero being stupid. Main character has magical eyes. No one explains shit to them, about how they can learn how to control and use their powers. Leaving it as a plot device that triggers, whenever the writers want. Character unlocks healing ability out of the blue. Goes to heal injured team mate. Another party member who can clearly see they are healing someone up and keeping them from dying. Goes and tells them to stop. Yes they are saving someone life by healing them and are being told to stop healing one of their own team mates. From their so called leader. Someone who is still alive but merely injured by the way. I could go on but i would be here all day.
It might be me since I had requested MauLer to respond to this series a few times. In my defense though, I was hoping they'd give this video a brief glance before moving on to parts 2, 3 and 4 which apparently speak more about the movie than this one. But since the guy who created the videos has made them private, we're stuck with this one for the time being. So.....my bad I guess.
@@HagridRKZ You deserve to know that I was entertained by this Episode of EFAP, I bet many were. So don't apologize for this recommendation. If anything, even finding out that all he said was nothing is fun with the guys.
Coming off the last EFAP, I think Quentin is worse overall than Major lee. QR's reviews might have better "argumentation" than Lee's, but at the same time, I think Quentin hides behind this veneer of legitimacy and tact. The same goes for the character of Quentin. Major Lee may come off as a raging dickbag, but I feel he's more honest and upfront unlike Quentin.
At one point he's under the impression that reviewers memorize the entire movie after one viewing, as if notes aren't a thing. Or citations are just a knockoff citrus fruit.
Quinton is truly unbearable with how much he lies to try and make his point. And the lies are so blatant but he’s too stubborn to see that no one is actually buying his crap. The only thing that Quinton is good at is being able to get people riled up
I agree with Rag's at the beginning. People who disagree with him should be put to death. He said it, and before anyone tries to correct me, it's my opinion, and so I'm completely immune to your pitiful 'facts' and 'reality'. And FLCL (Pronounced Fooly Cooly) was originally a 6 Episode OVA, unique in that each episode had different head animators and directors, leading to widely different and over the top stylized sequences. The fact that it's short means that the story moves quickly and doesn't get bogged down in twists or complex arcs, but instead on solid characters and weird, funny, and cool moments. And say whatever you want about the Transformers movies, they have women, and you get to look at them, and you could probably watch them each 3 times and not get bored.
Just realized.... MauLer's avatar is essentially a Helghast soldier from Killzone. As a fan of Killzone (specifically the Helghast and their lore), that makes me like MauLer even more.
When a TH-camr I like turns out to be sketchy, or bad, or something terribly different than I thought they were I never go to the "I cant believe I used to like this guy" meme. But I cant believe I used to like Quinton.
Man, I tentatively watched some of his stuff, but he (just, like, his existence) always depressed me and he’s a huge cringe factory. Some of his videos are still fine, but forgettable. His best video is definitely the one of him opening a jar tomato sauce, though.
It's always fun going back and listening to old EFAPs and realize, "oh hey, they talked about this and that led to this and meeting this person" For instance, the introduction to JLongbone was her Quinton- Ben Shapiro video
Not only is this guy a hypocrite and elitist with his true fans rhetoric, he also holds the belief that everyone should read second hand sources and that not doing so when arguing about plot holes or poorly thought out characters is just a sign of poor research skills. I found it so infuriating watching his video when he would go off on long tangents about how just because something was explored in the book, it was OK for the villain of Jurassic World's motivations and actions to make no sense. He also completely wasted his collaboration with Missanthropony (who recommended people check out his chanel), by having him just weakly back up his criticisms of Nostalgia Critic and other such complains with, "wow, that was terrible." Over and over again.
You know, it still goes on! He's got fanboys himself who go out of their way to defend him. They attack anyone who gives the movie a negative review in his name. I doubt he's sending them but still goes to show how desperate these people can be! My own review for this movie got comments from his fans quoting him!
Sini It was that algorithm change back in 2014 that undermined a lot of animation channels, but if you have a passion for it then I wouldn't give in but I'm just stubborn like that.
@@ThatBugBehindYou Did it? I thought it punished them more cause it obviously takes time for them to animate and upload? But like you just said I still see animators doing quite well with views.
So, as an older viewer, I remember some of the criticisms of the first movie being in relation to the book. The Jurassic Park novel by Crichton was a phenomenon in its own right and the movie was criticized by some fans of the book for emphasizing action at the cost of being a more faithful adaptation book. I enjoyed both the book and the movie, but I definitely remember that being a topic of criticism at the time.
Shinobi-03 just quit TH-cam! He deleted his response videos of the Nostalgia Critic along with almost all of his videos! He also turned off all of his comments permanently. He said the reason was simply put that he wasn't making money off of TH-cam and other, pretty selfish reasons for not wanting to make TH-cam videos anymore. Frankly, I say good riddance. He just seemed incredibly toxic and him leaving has made TH-cam a better place to be at.
I'm watching these podcasts for the first time and I just went to look at Shinobi's channel. He has some videos up, including a "satirical" but not really parody of Mauler's Jurassic World Unbridled Rage video. Did EFAP cover that? It's a damn shame, the comments section had a few people just going "I hate Mauler so much, this was so funny". One guy wrote a pretty long comment about criticisms against Shinobi and the opinions on Mauler of most of the people in his comments sections, and Shinobi responded with "Satire" and nothing more. I'm not sure what kind of person he actually is, but the way he seems to act and the comments on his videos are just sad and act as echo chambers for the people who hold those kinds of opinions.
I'm really glad that when I stopped watching the video to check out how many subs Cynic Snacks has, it is now over 160k. You'll never see this comment, but good job man!
He uses the stupid toy part like scammers use emails with grammatical and spelling errors; as a filter for people who are too smart for that bullcrap leaving only idiots beyond.
10:08 The only thing the manlet known as Destiny is good at is arguing or "debating" in bad faith and when he's losing he never concedes anything and just begins to argue in circles. He doesn't give a shit about even winning a debate and has admitted to trying to subvert entire conversations just to make his opponents look bad/assassinate their character.
Whenever films are taught in class they spend more time than the length of the film. This is very unhelpful film criticism because everything you could ever possibly say about any movie can easily be condensed down to 5-10 minutes.
Don’t worry Rag’s, I support you. Water isn’t wet, because you can’t cover/soak water with more water. Water + Water just equals a larger amount of water.
3:36:00 I think rag's is inventing his own definition to fulfill his own headcannon definition of wet like everyone who liked TLJ does with that movie.
I've only the most cursory understanding of chemistry through research for a project and from the channel Explosions & Fire. Tom, the chemist of the channel, made nearly anhydrous hydrogen peroxide and it was in that video and the video where he made tetrasulfur tetranitride did I get an understanding of what 'dry' and 'wet' meant in a chemical sense. It would probably back up what Rags was saying about water making other things wet. What I mean to say is: I understand what you mean* (*kinda sorta)
@@s13gouf60 oh ya, the your momma joke was the first red flag. But I was still willing to give what I thought would be the real meat of the film a chance after that. in defense of cinema sins: no one is A) forcing people to watch them or B) to take what they are saying as gospel. if people watch their videos and think that is legit criticism and start parroting it rather than thinking for themselves thats on the individual. further, to blame their *comedy* videos for "dumbing down movie critiques on youtube" when you have serious people like patrick willems who say logic is bad and to stop thinking so much is incredible. its not jeremy's fault his channel got big, nor is he responsible for what his viewers say or think.

Title: My Response to the Nostalgia Critic Fallen Kingdom Video Shinobi: Imma spend over the entire video bitching about other people who have nothing to do with NC, and wonder why people dont like Fallen Kingdom!!!
When the first Jurassic Park came out, it showed the public what experts knew about dinosaurs at the time. So no, there was no "we deliberately made them inaccurate" or anything. That also explains the disappointment that later Jurassic films don't update based on what we learn further about dinosaurs - but from a film perspective people might not want to see feathered raptors. I mean, yeah, you can be inaccurate and still tell a good story, but what was great about the original was that it went for both accuracy and entertainment.
Updating the dinosaurs to come more into line with what we know IRL about dinosaurs would break the internal consistency of the films though. Raptors suddenly having feathers in later movies would make them clash with the non-feathered Raptors of earlier films.
@@artofalmost9479 They're cloning from DNA, and DNA isn't everything; it's just for the proteins and not how they're arranged. You could easily explain that just as our science got better in understanding raptors, their science got better in creating more accurate dinosaurs, or extracting DNA samples without fudging. There's plenty of methods to choose from.
@@afelias Oh, good point that I hadn't thought of in terms of explaining it that way. Now that I think about it, they did say in the first JP that they had to finish the DNA sequence with frog DNA, so you could also explain it by saying they found a complete DNA strand rather than an incomplete one.
Itsjustsomerandomguy and "Hi I'm a Marvel, and I'm a DC" is actually very good. He was taken out of context. He was criticising the most toxic fans that take things too far, and it was manipulated to be about critics in general. And Superman here is a character in his vids, not a mouthpiece for this guy. There's often discussion between characters in the videos where they insult and argue with each other. Fuck Shinobi is the conclusion.

Y'know at least with TLJ Rian Johnson managed to put enough work into the movie that it managed to sucker in a sufficient amount of people to render the overall response as divisive, rather than overwhelmingly negative. With Fallen Kingdom it was plain trash, so there's a level of morbid curiosity in finding out the depths of warped reasoning someone will sink to to wholeheartedly defend the writing of that pile of shit.

Haha

@@forestelfranger I forgot he said that, what a moron. Its like The Last Jedi has lowered everyone's standards, all of this over a stupid frigging movie.

But since the guy who created the videos has made them private, we're stuck with this one for the time being.
So.....my bad I guess.

I love when this suddenly becomes an EFAP on a Siskel & Ebert review from 1996.
A lot of those guys reviews don't hold up at all.
Nothing is worse in creating an argument than intellectual dishonesty.
Fran Madaraki Quinton was always a sophist.

I WAS BORN IN IT, MOLDED BY IT!
