- PITCHERS BEWARE!!! // Pitching in slowpitch softball is crazy!
WATCH UNTIL THE END 😳
I have a CRAZY amount of respect for you guys that pitch. 💯 You have to be a real athlete to step on that mound, and maybe just a little bit crazy. 😂 Look at those reaction times!!! #SoftballFacts
EXCUSE MY TYPO 🤦♂️
Special thanks to Dale Weiser! Check out his channel here: / sw48 - กีฬา
That last play is so nasty, it is so hard to make that catch out in front being handcuffed like that. Especially to be able to manipulate the glove to still catch it in the pocket without damaging your hand. Awesome play!
Played pitcher for Class B and most of the time it was preparing for survival first playing second! Pitch and square up going 2 steps back is the key!
I am pitcher, and after several times getting hit, here I am, looking for shin guards. LOL
I wear NHL referee shin guards. They are light weight and no worries about getting hit.
To pitch in today’s game, you have to be fearless, confident, and a little crazy, nothing but respect to you all
Got so much respect for pitchers. Only do it on league nights occasionally and thankfully have been very fortunate not to have gotten hurt
2 Days in ER, not fun but still pitching at the age of 52
Played SS or 2nd from 17-45, but absolutely loved to pitch. The ball gets on you quick, I'd rather react than have time to think. Made more errors on slow rollers than on shots
BALLER!
Pitched for 20 years and still going, I agree with you!! Give me a line shot and not one that bounces several times any day lol
This just brought back some memories. Agreed on gotta be little crazy to play position loved every second always in the action
Did it for 20 years, took many shots up the middle. Glad I got out of game just as bats started getting really hot and pitchers needed to wear equipment!!!
Unfortunately I wasn’t that lucky. Played for about 15 years, and it finally caught up to me. Guy was playing with a hot bat, went right up the middle at me. Knocked me out cold. That’s when the fun started to fade. Just not worth it anymore
same here .. i got pretty good at knowing from my pitch when it had a good chance of eating me up .. i ran backwards a lot .. finally got too old and slow to get out of the way ..
You really must be fearless and brave to pitch against some of these lumber Jack's lol. I've been pitching for about 3 years full time for two teams spring, summer and fall. I've been hit a few times in the gut but it didn't hurt much. Caught dozens and dozens of hard ones up the middle. My best though was a jacked lil islander, phenomenal ball player, smoked one up the middle. Thankfully it hit the ground and i have great reaction timing. It landed in my glove and i no looked magic tossed it to first behind me. My momma was there and everyone was like WTTFFF 😅😂😂😂.
Shoutout to go pitcher at the end taking no glory, "it's an out" an amazing out but an out. Love that guys thinking
That guy with the gold helmet made some spectacular plays in that game/tournament
Problem is not just the high tech bars but obsessive weight and strength training a factor too.
High performance bats coupled with gorilla arms is a dangerous combination.
problem is the bush league play. these guys are talented enough they do it on purpose
@@nate24680 they definitely do, but it’s also part of the game and a lot of the pitchers pitch to these hitters to get these kinds of outs. Granted, it doesn’t always work out. But I’d say from class C on up through the higher divisions the pitchers definitely want you to go through them.
Best part of the whole ball field
This is why I stay trying to hit the inside edge of the zone instead of trying to stay away when facing guys who can rake. If you stay inside, their natural inclination will be to pull it hot by opening up their hips and getting their hands through the zone quickly. Trying to pitch away gets their weight going more in YOUR direction as the pitcher and has gotten me lasered more than any other location.
1:07 Best part of the entire video
I love it!!!
didn't hear one "sorry pitch!" isn't that standard practice? if you hit it up the gut, run to first while yelling "sorry pitch"
It unless you are a douchebag.
Alot of it was probably on purpose.. that pitch at 53 secs was asking for mid smoke though
At that level middles open its part of the field. Hitting pitchers is part of the game esp when it is a situation were your pitcher has been pelted multiple guys. Its protecting your pitcher. Now sets do come after the game but at that level giys are being paid lives are being changed bc of ball so pitchers also pitch to get action back atem or fall in the hole at the wrong time like basically its part of the game
@@THETHUND3rstruck 23 dodds was completely aiming there at 1:09
@@killorbekilled9757 You wanna try the last couple sentences in English, now?
I pitched for 15yrs and i pitched middle/ in for this reason only. If ball was middle /out it was coming back at me.
get rid of the high tech bats, its as easy as that. LIttle leauge and school ball is getting just as bad.
High Tech bats have ruined what used to be all about place hitting.
Little League went to the USA bat standard in 2018, which is highly restricted. High School uses BBCOR standards, which is also restricted.
Or put a screen up if you hit the screen you’re out
Enlarge strike zone
Wood bat leagues require better hitting. You can’t just crush it. Have to hit line drive singles over the infield (not through the infield)
That pitcher with the shin guards, wow why didn't I see this before the feeling in my shins completely died out. I have gotten hit so much on my shins.
As one that's been drilled before, I think nets should be mandatory.
Gotta toss then back peddle, quickly. Maybe toss the aluminum cheaters bat before netting.
Sitting here waiting on word from the orthopedic surgeon about my hand from a middle shot and still can’t wait to get back on the rubber. It’s part of the game and if you pitch you will get hit eventually. My glove just wasn’t fast enough this time.
I too am a line drive hitter usually a doubles guy . Just glad I’m not the pitcher 😂
I've been a slow pitch pitcher for 2 full seasons and let me tell you we get one of these beams every here and there and each one is scary. Where I play we arch the ball high to prevent it from being frequent but it happens.
I was pitching when the composite bats (Miken) first came out ( in the late 90's?).
It was getting ridiculous. Less than a second to react. Maybe a half second. I forgot the details.
I only got hit once, straight to the lower ribcage. I had my glove up and was ready for it because I inadvertently threw an outside pitch. It was a difficult angle to get my glove in a proper position. I was handcuffed and my brain just couldn't react quick enough.
During that era I saw several pitchers take balls to the face, requiring surgery. I also saw a pitcher get knocked unconscious from a ball to the side/back of his head as he was trying to turn and duck. I continued to pitch for a few years and I always got angry when ball whizzed by my ears or between my legs. Eventually I accepted that the only thing I could do was stop pitching. It was a shame because I liked the position because there was always something to do and somewhere to be.
I quit playing a few years ago in my late 60's because my hitting had been suffering for several years. Also I was overweight at the time and I knew I was wrecking my joints. I'm back in shape now at 71 and all the softball videos in my YT feed are making me want to get back to it. :)
Shit comes at you in slow motion
As a slow pitch pitcher myself, I'm shocked at the non-reactions of the pitchers catching those liners right at them. When that happens to me and I'm able to catch them, I do one of two things - 1) stone-cold like these guys or... 2) woo really loudly because the adrenaline just rushes through your veins in that moment. I then apologize quickly so the other team knows I'm not showing them up, but still.
No need to apologize to the other team. Nine times out of ten, when you get a ball ripped back at you, it's because the batter is a jerk-off. Especially now...it's easy to be a tough guy with one of these juiced bats. Really, consistently "going middle" is bad form, and most of these guys can place the ball pretty much wherever they want.
Time slows down in that 1/10th of a second.
Thats because you pitch at a low level. This is upper
dont apologize to the other team, they should get their scrubs in line and do some BP to learn to hit.
I like to flip the glove with a little style like a hockey goalie on a penalty shot breakaway.
My dad actually got an eye put out pitching back in the 90’s
I pitched in an intermediate league in KC (nowhere near the level of these guys) and had a bruised forearm from a ball I caught with my glove. I have no desire to ever pitch in slowpitch again. Too hot of bats and too big of egos.
$400 high-technology bats are the problem. Too hot for safety 🔥
The first play was actually not a force double play. Once the ball hits a fielders glove you can leave the base and "tag" up. The line drive hits so fast the guys foot is still on 1st base when glove touches ball
Pitching for close to 30 years in arkansas usssa Asa have been hit so hard sent to hospital multiple times ..no helmet just shin pads I know preety stupid no helmet
I'd like to see this video for 3rd base.
Pitched my first game kept the ball nice n high didnt come near to getting hit. Never throw low or short balls
Umpired ASA/UTRIP for 15 years in socal from rec to A/B tournies....ive seen some wicked middle shots but the one i remember the most was a girl playing 2B in coed and a lefty hit an absolute lazer right at her....she got her glove up and deflected the ball into RF but started screamimg bloody murder....turns out when the ball hit her glove it caused a compound fracture of he ring finger inside the glove.....
I played mens competitive leagues. Teams with great tournament success. Played in a coed league to get my wife involved, the men bat opposite handed. And I hit a line drive and broke this poor ladies leg. Felt horrible
Was playing intramural in graduate school. We played the best undergrad team. We’re up 3-2. Last inning. Guy lasers one at me. I stopped the ball with my glove but didn’t even have enough time to turn the glove around. I picked up the ball and threw the guy out at first. After the play was over I realized he broke my middle finger. Someone came in and got the last out. One of my proudest moments was helping to win the game Playoffs started the next week and I couldn’t play. We lost in the first round Pitching makes a difference
Mean ass throw to first even though the runner was safe. ...it was on target ..he pulled a tadahido iguchi
And w dirty glass too. Shotgun city
The stories I could tell
Is that slow pitch what is the minimum and maximum ark ? Just curious
It varies with the associations. Generally 6 foot min and 12 foot max arc.
I’m playing my first slow pitch season, not as intense as these guys, but now I’m concerned that I should get more protective gear than just a cup.
Please get a mask
@@Invaliid_Name I did end up buying one a few days ago. I like my teeth, nose, and face too much for rec softball
1:08 "Look what I found!!!"
That last hit was on purpose. Did you see how the batter swung on a horizontal plane
He broke his forearm on the 2nd to last. i remember that
I used to pitch and have never seen so many up the gut on purpose ever, I wondered why the pitcher wore a helmut, l was also a place hitter so I know you can aim your hits pretty good, but I didn't waste time hitting up the gut I would put it in the field where they weren't lol. Just sayin.
As a softball pitcher who doesn't wear a mask, these shots can be scary. I took one to the face almost, got my glove up in a split second time, glove smashed back into my face, even knocked my ass down. Hey, i caught it though.
I'm 48 got out 10yrs ago..... now I'm just keeping a ear out for FOUR.... pitching slow pitch for 15 yrs was a MFer
I pitched for 15 years, never played another position.. i would not trade it for anything...
I've been getting really close to being smoked the last few games. Really isn't much fun anymore
Ya luckily I play in a Rec league so people aren't hitting anywhere near this hard. But the last 2 weeks I got hit square on the front of my left shin last week, and on my right calf this week along with catching one coming at my face. Might need to start wearing gear.
2 words: wood bats.
I pitched for several years in Salem Oregon some of those boys intentionally try to hit you. Gotta have a quick hands and be fearless
The ones who intentionally want to hit you I have issue's with. I once fielded their middle shot then threw it at the batters head as he ran to first. My defense was you want to hit me, I can hit you.
@@hibyhihi2881 I’ve been in a few altercations myself with those trying to take my head off
Should wear catchers gear 😂
3rd no bargain either.
Agreed... A few steps further back, but no helmet/shinguards and no apologies.
Ok. Kinda hate to admit it now, but when I played in college 30yrs ago, I always tried to hit it up the middle. . .
Now I can see why they are dialing the ball back with the lower COR balls. Probably need to look at the thin-walled, super-lite bats too
Time for everyone to adopt the middle rule
What’s the middle rule
Not one “Sorry pitch”! It’s part of the game. Let’s be honest though! All these guys know how to hit everywhere else! I get it, In tourneys once a few batters go middle! Hunting season begins! What I don’t like is when this happens in regular rec league! Me as a hitter, I’ll allow 2 back at my pitcher. After that I’ll ask him if he wants me to return the favor. We, as players, know each other, from recleague to tournament play! It’s pretty much the same people you know unless you’re traveling out of state to play. So as a hitter, I already know who hits where, how hard, etc… we as players, also know the individuals who can’t! That’s why they only play E division. I can see these type of people making a mistake and hitting middle, but the ball won’t be hit as hard. Sometimes it is… not always. For those who hit middle, especially on purpose! You know who you are. You know how to hit to all parts of the field. Again it’s all good. You’ll only get your pitcher lit up. I would light the opposing pitcher up. if my pitcher got one back at him like this! Stay thirsty my friends! Be safe! Wear a mask…. On the field!
Disagree, these are mediocre former baseball players. If they had the control you speak of they would be getting 100000 runs per game.
This guy makes me think of the "I'm Retarded?" meme from Quantum Leap
I was the pitcher for my team this past season. The entire regular season, I had one ball hit at me that ricocheted off my cleat for an out, and I was unhurt. The playoffs come, and I had three come back at me. One that came back in the championship game I thought I caught, but I just knocked it down and earned myself at least what I think is a bone bruise on the tip of my ring finger. Hurt like a bitch to get my glove on for the last inning. I REALLY need to start wearing a helmet.
With time you'll learn.
Helmet AND shin guards. They'll save your arse eventually!! Just go buy them!
@@aaronday2122 Already bought them after the first season because one particular team seemingly made it a point to hit rockets back at me. Helmet and catcher's shin guards. Taken a few off the guards, but luckily not the helmet yet.
These are coming in hot, no doubt. But sorry, not 0.11 seconds. At 50 ft that would be around 300 mph.
So the timer was wrong? What was the correct time?
@@softballfacts5724 Not sure, but using MLB high of 122.2 (Stanton in 2017) at 50ft would get there in just under 0.28.
Most leave the bat in the 110-115 mph range for a top major hitter.
I believe that's one of those timers that go to 0:00:20 before going to 0:01:00. It's too slow to be tenths and hundredths of a second. At 0.11 it would actually be 0.55 seconds.
Although that's roughly 100 ft per second which is only 68 mph.
10-11 frames. so assuming 30frames/s thats 100mph
Where the real business... These are just the ones who survived
A little bit crazy? I guess I was bat shit crazy. I didn't wear no helmet.
Sorry u guys never made it
Middle is open
Top leagues should be using wood bats...pitchers are wearing fucking hockey equipment....🤣😂🤣
Dangerous yes but you're showing conference and A players who hit way harder than average Joe
Anyone in softball and in any league that hit at the pitchers intentionally are all cowards..absolutely zero reason to blowing up pitchers...
It's slow pitch. Plenty of time to get the glove up before bat contact.
A third of a second is "plenty of time" unless you get handcuffed or distracted.
anyone realize that 99% of those pitches are illegal. the ball must be released on the FIRST pass by the waist, none of this rocking back and forth
Somthing about having a ball coming at you at 90+ makes you pretty damn reactive.
My math may be off, but I think 50 feet in 0.10 seconds is 666/mph. Coincidence?
Um, your math is way off. That comes out to 341mph. Still fast, but not nearly as fast. Now the actual distance is 43 feet and the timing was more than likely closer to .15 seconds, which comes out to a little under 200 mph.
@@mcpclearning6835 fast pitch is 43 feet. Slow pitch is 50 to 55 feet depending on which association you play. Like Usssa you get 3 in front or 3 in the back of the 50 foot rubber if u want.
The batters are ridiculous. You can easily control the direction in slow pitch.
YOU DONT GO UP THE MIDDLE
Majority of the time, this is on purpose. A good ball player knows exactly what they’re doing while batting.
I mean in which direction to place the ball
B.S. If that was the case, a 'good ball player' would bat 1.000.
@@bauerj3398 A good hitter can go middle majority of the time, maybe you haven’t played before? All it takes is an outside pitch and it’s either going opposite field or middle, hopefully that’s simple enough terms for you to understand
This is exactly why a ball up the middle needs to be at minimum an automatic out (or based on situation) end of inning or ejection of player. I've been in casual rec league for a long time(no where near pro) and I can place that ball where I want. These guys look to be on the professional level and they know exactly where that ball is going. That's why you never hear "sorry pitch" bc it's always on purpose. I've seen to many good guys get hurt for over this.
@@dustin5682 same, I only play Rec and local tournament. There used to be a pitchers lane, if anyone hits inside that lane, it’s an automatic out, etc
@@dustin5682 the last ball wasnt even middle, the pitcher moved a couple feet to the left to field the hole behind him. Even in my league where middle is closed that wouldnt have been an automatic out.
What's with the helmets? Lol
Approx. 4 or 5 years ago I watched a super major tournament at Liberty Park in Warren, MI. Pitcher had all the "hockey" gear on, including the helmet. Batter lasered one up the middle that hit the pitcher's helmet and broke it wide open........Without that helmet, the pitcher would be dead.......That's why

@@tonyh2181 take the mound and take a few 100+mph shots at ya, then continue to be a tough guy 🤣🤣🤣
I'm all for mandatory helmets /facemasks for pitchers. Get rid of the nets .
The bats today are way too hot. Go back to aluminum bats and problem is solved and the game much safer for the pitchers and all infielders.
I used to pitch in the C division in Florida which is actually B level everywhere else in the country...without a mask...not boasting just letting you know what stupid things young people do
If u pumpfake pitching u deserve to get line drived 🤣
If you need hit at the pitcher then this game is not for you
Don't throw the ball on the outside of the plate and you'll be fine.
Unless the batter stands way outside the erased box. If they are 3 or 4 feet outside of the plate, even an inside pitch is an outside pitch. I used to hate those guys and never had an ump do anything about it.
Slowpitch softball was not meant to be played with composite or double-wall bats, not to mention super wound balls, they should be playing modified or fastpitch.
That's why we use a screen !
hitting back at the pitcher is a bush league move
Slow pitch softball is bush league.
Nets should be mandatory or outlaw the hot bats (too much money, will never happen), hit the net and you are DBO!
Hot bats suck. It went from 4 guys in a league that could hit one out to 4 guys per team.
@@johncooper7663 every guy on the team hits them out, all fields. Pitchers in full armor, infielders wearing masks... Good times!
@@kylemc8851 not really. Everyone has $300 less and the best players are now marginalized by technology
@@johncooper7663 pretty sure that’s what I said.
@@kylemc8851 didn't catch the sarcasm. My bad
Oh softball, where the 'major' players just hit the juice. Hitting middle shows lack of hitting skill in this game.
So stupid. These rec leagues should just put a pitching net in front.
Hitting a slow pitch takes only slightly more skill than hitting a tee ball. If you go up the middle on purpose and hit the net, you are out. If you can’t control your $300 bat and go up the middle and hit the net, you are out.
If you can safely hit over the net and go up the middle, you get a single. No one gets injured and the game moves on.
is a straight back shot a cheap hit? isn't it all accidental? Softball fights are mainly dumb has-beens, or never weres. HA
It depends on a lot of factors to see if its intentional or not. There's times I'll accidentally leave a pitch short and outside. More times than not thats coming back at me or in my general direction. If playing a 5 man infield the middle is the most open spot of the field at that point. As a pitcher you still need to be prepared.
I guess no one in the comments played collage ball and take a 92 mph fast back at them? That’s cute.
These bums should use wood bats they’ll look average hits ... and average players what bums
Should be a ball or walk Everytime they do that stupid juke fake pitch crap. Illegal in leagues I played in back in the day.
100% legal in usssa play.
I would catch them all no prob with out a helmet even
You're kidding right!?
🤡😂
Riiiiiight
We have a tournament coming up wanna pitch????
Dude, you’d piss yourself and the way off the field saying “im done” pack your stuff and go home
Should have nets mandatory
Such a scumbag move, going up the middle
Nothing like grown men playing coach pitch hahahah soft but entertaining
@Kelly Mojica yes very true
Not everyone in slowpitch hits that hard. Pretty sure that was mostly highlight from B teams which is a vast minority of slowpitch players
