Sign up like I did for fantastic background info on songs we learned in our childhood, without understanding their significance.

Iontach/Fantastic! One correction to the lyrics though, De Valera didn't 'fight' at Boland's Mills. Cowardly, he holed up there, not committing his desperately needed troops to relieve those besieged in the GPO. His American Citizenship saved him from execution, as Britain needed American aid in WW1.

@@eugenedunphy167Even tho' the person is long dead, I can't disclose the source, but one true patriot who was under Dev's command in Boland's Mills who, along with the rest of the Volunteers, wanted to go to support those in the GPO, was very bitter ever after. He coined a joke: Q:- Why is there no road or street in Ireland named after Dev? A - They couldn't find one long enough, narrow enough or crooked enough!

The long fella was a complex character indeed. Liked the story about the street! 👍

@@eugenedunphy167 , We gave "America" many great people. All were emigrants. America gave us De Valera and Globalism-- and "The Troikia." And, almost forgot, the photo op for the chancers carrying a bowl of Shamrock. Thank you the most interesting research you do on the background of many songs. It is very important work.
