    Real solid buggy platform. Really durable parts. Doesn't break easily. Very good choice for a beginner or intermediate RC racer. Hobao doesn't get the required promotion. But as said a sleeper brand. Value for money definitely.

      jehan0 have you had one? Can it take hard bashing?

    • @jehan0
      @jehan0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Few of my friends at the track use the Nitro version as well as this version. Definitely can take more than a few hard bashes and crashes. You can take my word for it. Seen its performance first hand, and for the price its unbeatable. Quality parts. Very durable

    Hey Rich, great to see this new series. I miss 1/8 racing and this might make me jump back into it. Would love to see it raced for a day then bashed to get a full round review. Can't wait to see the rest.

    Just a couple notes.. hope these help
    Team Associated Rc8b3 springs fit these shocks perfectly they are 20mm id.
    Agama shock pistons and springs and shock boots also fit perfectly. Because the A8 evo uses 17mm shocks as well.
    Jato or Revo rod ends are a good fit. Also Associated Rc8b3 rod ends.
    You will definitely want to check your the settings on: sway bars, camber, toe.and check steering links for symmetry. Also tear down and fill your diffs with desired fluid. Be sure to check the shimming on all diffs. Associated Rc8b3 shims work . As well as any other diff shims that use an 8x16mm bearing in the diff case.
    I find that Hobao tends to use Locktight on most important areas.

    looks like a good learner vehicle. i want to build a high end 1/8 buggy but i have to admit i'm a novice. maybe this would be a good place to start.

    • @TheRCNetwork
      @TheRCNetwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great place to start. My first 1/8th scale was an XTM XT2e (terrible RC, BTW) I graduated to a Hobao Hyper 9e (at the time) and it was a great progression from an RTR, like the XTM to the Hyper....High end race buggies, like the Tekno EB48.4 will have driver support (set up sheets), better part support at shops and higher end materials like CNC'd aluminum - but pricing will follow. The Hobao comes in at about $270 for the roller vs the Tekno at $549 for the KIT

    • @humblerc841
      @humblerc841 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The RCNetwork thanks, i might try something like that. i don't really want to spend a grand and a half on a buggy if it turns out i suck as a driver. the few times i've been on a track i might as well have been playing pinball.

    • @jamesandonian7829
      @jamesandonian7829 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      humble rc I highly recommend this kit. I've put on a 2200kv castle motor and a 160a hobbywing esc and easily get 100+mph. End cost was ≈ $600 without 6s lipo or charger

    Nice video - I 'm looking to get my first buggy and was tossing up between the Hobao Hyper VSE/SSE and the Arrma Typhon. Any suggestions on which to go for? Also what is the difference between the Hobao VSE and SSE it's not so clear as they look very similar. I did notice the SSE is slight longer in dimension but otherwise seemed similar - which is the better buggy between the 2?

    • @rgqban6380
      @rgqban6380 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ketan Soni You can’t go wrong with the Typhon brother. Arrma is a way more durable than Hobao for my experience. And I do own both RCs

    • @user-dz2jv4in5z
      @user-dz2jv4in5z 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      RgQban G. Arrma’s metal bends like wire, these just have a minor weakness with the plastic hinge pin brace, not going to break if you don’t bash too hard. Also, there’s the metal upgrade for the hinge pin braces. These (rtr version) come with sävöx servos and corerc radios, the arrmas come with unreliable servos and radios with massive delays. Do you even own a hyper vs if you think it’s that brittle?

    • @rafaelylamaki4527
      @rafaelylamaki4527 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t broken mine on 6s and i got it in february. The parts are cheap anyways. I think the vse is a newer and better version of the sse.

    Wonder how this compares with the HPI buggy in terms of metal durability, etc. Went to their site. Curious to see how their monster truck would do.

    • @bigdaddyd82vapes92
      @bigdaddyd82vapes92 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe DeJohn
      Which HPI buggy? I'm assuming you mean the Vorza?
      The Hobao vehicles have some beefy plastics in most areas. Arms, shock ends, rod ends. The Aluminum on most is decent stuff. Some models come with machined aluminum out of the box. My hyper SSTE has machined towers and motor mount. The diffs are really nice . Shocks are butter smooth, I believe they use machined pistons and spacers. And I am certain the VSE is lighter and more aimed toward club racing than a Vorza. However it is definitely bashable. And there's a good ammount of hop ups available through nitrohouse.com

    • @TheRCNetwork
      @TheRCNetwork  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BigDaddy nailed it on the answer...HPI is a little volatile these days...little to no parts, etc

    • @joeddejohn
      @joeddejohn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bigdaddyd82 Vapes Sorry should have said the HPI Pulse 4.6. Shopped quite a bit at Nitrohouse. Thanks for the recommendation and sharing your hard won knowledge. Little behind in r.c. due to work and airplanes for a while. I'd rather have heavier for bashing if it's more durable etc. skeptical on HoBao durability but keeping an open mind.

    • @joeddejohn
      @joeddejohn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bigdaddyd82 Vapes I thought Ofna quality was awesome. Assuming that merged into HoBao. Anyway Aussie rc Playground just reviewed their monster truck and it seemed to have diff. Issues.

    • @bigdaddyd82vapes92
      @bigdaddyd82vapes92 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe DeJohn
      Hobao manufactured most of the Ofna branded vehicles. Hong Nor did some as well.
      Now a days Hobao represents it's self in the us market. And since Ofna has gone Hobao have updated and upgraded many things on this latest generation of vehicles.
      Yes you will get diff issues in most vehicles if u run 6s and do not shim your diffs properly. Take all of your diffs out and fill them with the oil that suits you . Then shim them nice and tight. Not bindy tight but almost. And you will have way less chance of an issue. My diffs have not given me one single issue yet after 2 dozen 4s and 5s packs mixed. Also thr hyper MT has no slipper or center diff so all that stress is soaked up by front and rear alone.

      Considering most 1/8th scale E buggies are between $550-$900, Just for the kit, this Hobao kit gets you running much cheaper than those others. It does cost a lot to run 1/8th scale, but it’s a trade off in performance and durability over 1/10th

    • @jamesandonian7829
      @jamesandonian7829 6 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @gorillazombies189
    @gorillazombies189 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The hyper sst has horrible dog bones. Even the upgrade shafts are garbage. The rear chassis brace is a joke allowing the center rear drive shaft to bend during every run. That said I own a hyper 9 buggy and this thing is unbreakable. Drive shafts are the most solid I've ever seen thick stainless. The shocks are 10x better than the hyper sst 17mm. The hyper sst is a major lemon. From a company that makes the hyper 7 and 8 8.5 9 and the hyper 7 st truggy. Which are awesome budget rc models. Just heaver.

      Not sure, as I haven't owned the SST....I know that Truggy drivelines are tough to maintain, but I agree..they shouldn't bend that easy
