    Planning on getting an MC-101 to use as a sound module with my Akai Force. Awesome jam, instant sub!

      I really appreciate your comment and compliment! It's an excellent sound module for that Roland vibe. There are so many useful presets on it, and to be perfectly honest, the Partial Editor isn't that hard to use with some practice, meaning you can also use it as a nearly endless sound design module. 😊

    2 little boxes and the same massive sound as JMJ at Bratislava (and great music). Now just add 40 meter high light and video rigs and presto. We have come a long way in 5 decades.

      @@sinewaymusic struggling a bit to get it all in order atm, i.e. does syntakt control mc101 or vice versa, I also run my stuff into MPC live 2 in the end, so I'm sort of struggling with routing, and if it should use a track of syntakt, or be controlled by mpc. How did you run them in this video?

    • @sinewaymusic
      @sinewaymusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tafonyreynolds Ah, I haven't routed them into MPC Live 2 here because I use the DAW instead. I think the answer to your first question is easy, control the 101 with the Syntakt (midi out from Syntakt to midi in on 101). This is because the Syntakt has the better sequencer and the higher number of tracks. You can also of course leverage both sequencers for 16 tracks in total, but I haven't needed that so far.
      As for how I did the recording, I recorded the Syntakt using Overbridge using the standalone MacOS app, this is just because I get latency issues when using the DAW plugin. Then I recorded the MC-101 audio tracks via USB straight into the DAW. So all of my audio is recorded as separate digital tracks straight into my computer. If you're recording into the MPC, you have a few options but you can't leverage the track separations so you'll have to live with one or maximum two separate stereo channels instead. In terms of midi setup, at that point I'd consider sequencing the MC-101 straight from the MPC since it can even power the MC-101 via its USB host outputs.m and has the vastly superior sequencer. And then I'd probably just send a clock signal to the Syntakt too via USB midi, from the MPC. Then use the MPC audio inputs 1,2 for the Syntakt and 3,4 for the MC-101 while recording into two separate audio tracks simultaneously. Or, if you want more separation, do multiple recordings with a few tracks at a time if this isn't a live jam situation where everything needs to be done in one take. Hope this helps and let me know how it works out!

      @@sinewaymusic was pleasure to listen it.. yeah they both sonically perfectly cooperate, can't imagine two brooveboxes which complete better in terms of sound, 101 deliver exactly the sound spectrum which is missing on ST and vice versa...

    • @sinewaymusic
      @sinewaymusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raysubject I 100% agree! About the only thing I miss in this setup is a way to quickly sample/resample. I actually bought an SP-404 MKII for this purpose but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. But in terms of which device provides nearly the perfect yin-yang ☯ pairing with the Syntakt, it's definitely the MC-101.

      @@sinewaymusic there are multiple possible solutions for sample / resample, SP404 is good choice, also 1010 BlackBox is interesting solution, and then, of course, if money doesn't matter allmighty Octatrack :)

      @@raysubject For me, money definitely matters, but in the case of the Octatrack, it's also that I really prefer portable devices. I love the fact that the SP-404 runs on batteries and is so easy to carry around, it's quite liberating. 😊

    @hosedog99 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video! This is my current setup. Can explain a bit more about how you setup the sequence? I’m guessing the Syntakt is sending clock to the 101. Did you program anything in the 101 or is it acting more like a sound module? If everything was sequenced on the Syntakt, how many tracks did you designate as midi?

    • @sinewaymusic
      @sinewaymusic  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey there Brian, sure thing! I sequenced the MC-101 from the Syntakt and dedicated 3 tracks for this. One for the pad chords, one for the "horn" lead, and one for the stab chords. There's a fourth drum track with some one shot samples for textures that isn't sequenced from the Syntakt. Indeed, the MC-101 clock is synced from the Syntakt too. I find the sequencer of the Syntakt to be so much faster to work with that this is my preferred method of doing this. Even though the actual sequences are quite simple, it's just more convenient to have it all controlled from the Syntakt. Also, by doing so, I don't have to worry too much about syncing clips and messing with program change messages over midi, since all the information is stored within the Elektron pattern.
      Congrats on a great setup! I find the Syntakt and MC-101 to be a great combo, they complete each other very well and it's easy enough to just unplug the MC-101 if I want to continue to build out a song structure without everything hooked up.

    • @hosedog99
      @hosedog99 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sinewaymusic This is super helpful! I'm curious, if you were going to add in a Digitone into the chain, how would you set it up? DT into MC-101 into ST? Excellent channel! Please post more jams...

    • @sinewaymusic
      @sinewaymusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hosedog99 Thank you so much, I really appreciate your encouragement to publish more jams! Work has been taking up more time lately but I have more Syntakt jams lined up and I will publish them when I get some more time. 😊
      A Digitone would probably replace the MC-101 if I ended up getting one because they'd sort of fill the same general gap, which is lush poly synth sounds and pads/chords. I still find it less inspiring to jam on the MC-101 in standalone, so a Digitone would probably be a better standalone device for melodies and chords for me. But to your question, if I ended up having all three, I'd probably stick to a MC>DN>ST routing when jamming and sketching in standalone. When I do the actual recording for TH-cam, I always use Overbridge so the routing doesn't really make much of a difference since all tracks are recorded separately into the computer. But if I were doing a live performance in front of an audience, the above routing would definitely be my preferred choice. To be honest though, I still much prefer to jam on just one device at a time, it's just easier for me and it allows me to pick the device up and noodle more quickly than when I'm messing with a multi-device setup with lots of cables. But that's just me. 😊 What do you prefer?

      Thanks Lou! You were completely right, the MC-101 excels as a sound module in a setup. Have to say that the Partial Editor is straightforward to use too. We used it to design that flute/trumpet/horn-like sound from an init patch and it took less than five minutes to dial in exactly what we were looking for. I always appreciate your comments, happy to have you around!
