You have to start out as friends in order to get to know each other first. Some of my friends talk to me about being friend zoned and they become bitter and angry. Being friends isn't the end of the world. You never know what the future holds. Being friends keeps the door open for feelings to grow. Some relationships take years to cultivate and each one starts with being friends. Being friends doesn't tie you down. You still have the freedoms to be who you are and keep an open mind on meeting other people gaining new friends along the way. I personally would have more faith in a relationship that grew then a love at first sight. Just remember, you have to love you before you can expect someone else to love you or be interested in you. I can't tell you how much time it could take to get out of the friend zone. Everyone is different but if you really love someone you have to give them the room to be themselves and not pressure them. Just ask yourself this, would it be better to have someone you love in your life on the daily or try to pressure them or give them an ultimatum and lose them? Never to see or talk to them? Loving someone should be a selfless act. Does it make you feel joy doing for or giving to the person you love or do you get upset and hurt because you expect them to do or give something in return? I’ve been “Ugly Duckling” status and dated guys with mediocre hearts … little ambition, or little to look at. One or both would be happening. I also didn’t have the most amazing personality at the time. You attract what you are and it took me a long time to understand that.
With some life experience and time, I grew up, got prettier, & cleaned up my act. While in the process and still learning, I attracted more “bros” than anything. I attracted guys that did not share my values were drawn to me… They did not respect them nor cared about what I wanted or needed. On paper they were successful and attractive… and that’s all there is to that.
I’ve been in a relationship with someone I had thought and hoped would be the one for me - a friend I’ve known since the pre-teen years. There was adventure and excitement and what seemed like a “too good to be true situation,” ..and it was a too good to be true situation. People change. He chose to do his own thing without me.
My last relationship lasted approx 4 years. The guy I was with then talked about marrying me. He “checked off” all of the boxes. He had a very unique job & a prestigious job. I got to meet some important people which was cool… The problem was, is that I ignored the last box: The “is he actually, truly good for you?” box.. and I could not check off that box because the guy was often angry, obsessive and controlling. That relationship hurt the most.
Now I am in what’s probably the healthiest relationship that I have ever been in. He’s humble and kind and empathetic. Not Bragging but when I ws in relationship with my ex, I had all the mentioned qualities except the quality number 10.
But my girlfriend was always selfish and she barely made me feel loved and used to argue a lot over little things.
I doubt that she used to respect me.
After 6 months we stopped talking.
She never appreciated the relationship I think.
I missed her a lot for around 3 months.
Now I'm reluctant to get in a relationship.
So If you are a guy with these qualities, chose your girlfriend wisely, not everyone appreciates kindness.
