It's cool to hear Paul go full Gnecco near the finish.

Oh... This song is a nice surprise! I really like the pre-chorus as well as the chorus! I like Paul's voice and I sometimes wish he sang less restrained because he has the vocal abilities to get out of his comfort zone. A little late... dear Matt and the A-HA family, I wish you a beautiful and Happy New Year 2025 full of Music and above all Health!

Oh thanks, Matt. Now Handsolo is going to be raging at me for stretching out the Savoy timeline.
I did send this note to Matt a while back: "(My) Weathervane" was originally a collab between Jimmy Gnecco and Paul from 2011 (Jimmy on vocals). This is a re-recorded version with Paul on vocals. You can easily hear the difference in their voices when you listen to the two versions. I wouldn't say I prefer one over the other. If it's not obvious to me then I guess they're both pretty good. I suppose Paul singing a song he wrote for someone else is like the Bee Gees singing "Islands in the Stream".
So now we're at the end of "See the Beauty...", here's my list in reverse order. I feel there's three poor songs and everything else is solid to excellent. But that 4-7 order has not got a lot between each track.
    10 Bump
    09 January Thaw
    08 Sunlit Byways
    07 Shy Teens Suffering Silently
    06 Falls Park
    05 (My) Weathervane
    04 Month of Sundays
    03 We're the Same Way
    02 Manmade Lake
    01 Night Watch

I think Matt should listen to Jimmy's version next, before going back to Savoy's Songbook. Don’t you think? I can send it to him. 😉 And I have been waiting for the end of Savoy's deep-dive to send him the Waaktaar & Zoe album, do you know / like that one? Waaktaar Wednesdays won't end soon. 😂

I know this better as the song from the movie of Jo Nesbo’s “Headhunters” novel. I don’t mind this version with Pal on vocals, although I prefer Jimmy Gnecco doing the singing. Pal’s voice isn’t all that different in fact from Jimmy’s, but still enough to hear it and have a preference. I actually do like the song…and as all Jo Nesbo’s books are great, I enjoyed the film…and the song when I first heard it on the film track.

I can't really fully appreciate this song for what it is in Savoy's version, because the "template" in my head is the 2011 version, sung by Jimmy Gnecco (who sang "The Breakers" on Savoy's self-titled 2004 album, remember? 😉), and my brain keeps hearing it while listening to this one. 🤪 In comparison, the 2011 version is a more powerful synth-pop song, it has more punch and has a faster tempo, and Jimmy's vocals are indeed stonger than Paul's, so this rendition sounds a bit too "mellow" to me. I don’t really know how I would assess it if I had not heard the original version. 🤷‍♀
The 2011 "Weathervane" was released as a single that was supposed to be the foretaste of a Paul/ Gnecco collaboration album that never came into existence (but, funnily enough, Paul ended up releasing a Waaktaar & Zoe album with Jimmy's daughter on the vocals, and I think you will have to react to that one some day 😇) and it was used on the soundtrack of the Norwegian movie Hodejegerne (Headhunters), as Marje has pointed out.
As for the lyrics, they are indeed about Paul and Lauren, portraying a situation not much unlike the one you mentioned, when Lauren had gone to London for a week, while Paul was left "home alone".
I had never thought about the title until today (you make me think of things I never really paid much attention to before 😁), but now it seemed very clear that "weathervane" is used as an image for someone who has shifts in disposition and mood, as in a "changing with the wind" type of concept. 🙂🙃 And thus, by inference, Paul is calling Lauren "my weathervane". 😉

Oh, RIP to Tony. He wasn't on the American Whose Line but I remember seeing him on the UK version a couple times (I've seen far less of the UK version, naturally).
