    I'm 48, single, no kids, and I want to go to school in LA and eventually get a job working in the film industry. I have a particular interest in learning how to be a screenwriter. But I currently live in the Midwest, and the thought of even TRYING to figure out how to move to LA to accomplish this, is very overwhelming!

  • @titusnixon

    Tony good advice. I moved to LA with $12000.00 saved up and believe me I needed every bit of that to get going and that was 12 years ago. The Gig economy was just starting. But I was a Cable TV installer and got a Job within three weeks. But I rented out a room in the Valley. I drove over 2180 miles on my own to get there in a Van. So the first week I just lived in my Van a checked out the area before I got a room

    The single reason I think motivation is required that's what someone needs to be creative enough to get things done without funds. Creativity requires motivation.

    Amen! My degree didn’t mean anything here! It’s definitely who you know. I’ve gotten great acting gigs because I knew mainstream actors as well

      @IMeMineWho 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How many years have you been in the biz though? I will bet less than ten. Most motivated actors have some success when they are fresh meat. But in five years most actors from other places go back home because they no longer can get the parts they became accustomed to. Glad on you for your initial success, but to encourage people to come here based on what may be your experience may be is reckless.

    • @Martaviousg
      @Martaviousg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@IMeMineWho first off, people are grown adults. Second they don’t know me. So if you’re basing your experience off of mine. That’s on you. And reckless of them. In no
      way am I responsible for another grown person’s actions. You’re wrong. I’ve been in over 10 years. And the industry changes every time. As a SMART human being. You should know logically your experience and your journey won’t be like mine or anyone else’s. I’m not anybodys guru. I said what worked for me. That’s called sharing MY experience. Whatever whoever chooses to do with that information. Is entirely up to them. I’m blessed to be with a wonderful agency. I’m living on my own here. I have everything I need. The only thing you got right. Was most actors do leave here. But I knew I wasn’t “most” actors. Not everyone that claims to be an actor is talented. So again. Whatever I’m saying worked for me. It worked for me. Nowhere in my statement did you hear me say. “Oh and that’s definitely gonna work for you” that’s laughable to think. I would even need to address this and put any kind of precaution on it. If you’re an actor or wanna be an actor. Do your research, know your sht! And do what works for YOU!!!! What worked for me martavious was doing reality tv first. Is that me telling you to run your butt out here and do reality tv to get your foot in, no!!! Because what God had planned for me. Was for me and is for me. And I’m not new to this. I’m true to this. I pray people can achieve the amazing level of success I have one day. There’s no secrets or short cuts. Hope this helps you understand better. Because you don’t need to be putting words in my mouth. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. Have a great life ✌️

      @@Martaviousg FIRST OFF, IF THAT PHOTO IS YOU, I HAVE NEVER SEEN YOU IN ANYTHING! I HAVE BEEN ACTING AND SINGING HALF MY LIFE AND HAVE CREDITS MOST WOULD RECOGNIZE..a lot in fact, and I know better than a newbie (10 YEARS? LOL. TRY 20+) like you what I am speaking of!! AND I HAVE BEEN PERFORMING BOTH ACTING AND MUSIC FOR HALF MY LIFE..WHILE WORKING IN THE BUSINESS END FOR RECORD COMPANIES AND FILM DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES ALL DURING THAT TIME! WE ARE SPEAKING DECADES. TEN YEARS? HA! TRY 20+ I HAVE FRIENDS WHO WERE SUPPORTING ACTORS ON OZ, LAW AND ORDER AND THE TUDORS WHO WOULD AGREE WITH ME! AS WELL AS HEADS OF RECORD COMPANIES, AGENTS AND OTHERS! ALL MY ACTING FRIENDS OVER THE YEARS WOULD AGREE WITH ME: THE FIRST HANDFUL OF YEARS, YOU ARE FRESH MEAT AND USED A LOT. AFTER THAT, YOU GRIND! MAYBE STOP SPREADING "INFORMATION" YOU ARE NOT YET AWARE OF! THE FACT IS WHAT WITH ACTORS LIKE YOU WHO ARE FRANKLY FILLED WITH THEIR OWN HUBRIS AND DON'T RESEARCH YOURSELF, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT PAID WORK WAS MUCH MORE PLENTIFUL BEFORE OUR MEMBERS VOTED WITH THE CELEBRITY ACTORS YOU SEEM TO BE SO ENAMOURED WITH FOR NEW MEDIA CONTRACTS WHICH PAY EVEN THE PRINCIPALS 150.00 (A PITTANCE FOR A FULL DAYS WORK) AND DO NOT EVEN HAVE TO PAY SUPPORTING ACTORS ANYTHING! MY FRIEND WHO WAS A SUPPORTING ACTOR ON THE TUDORS, GUEST STARRING ON OZ FOR 3 EPISODES AND LAW AND ORDER REMARKED WITH DISGUST THE LAST AUDITION HE WENT ON AND WAS OFFERED 200! IN A MAJOR DISTRIBUTED TV SHOW! FOR A SUPPORTING ROLE! ONE ENTERTAINMENT ATTY I WORKED FOR SAID HE WAS GETTING OUT OF THE BUSINESS AFTER MORE THAN 40 YEARS AS THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE $$ IN THE BIZ NOW FOR A MUSIC ARTIST WAS TO GO ON A REALITY GAMESHOW! HE REPPED SUPERSTARS FOR DECADES!
      WHY DO YOU THINK ACTORS ARE ON STRIKE? NOT ALL OF THE 166K MEMBERS (MANY WHO GOT THERE LIKE ME WITH SUPPORTING OR PRINCIPAL ROLES, NOT THE VOUCHER SYSTEM) ARE UNTALENTED!!! BECAUSE ACTORS LIKE YOU ARE BEDAZZLED MORE WITH CELEBRITIES AND VOTED AGAINST THEIR BEST INTERESTS BY SIDING WITH THE CELEBRITY ACTOR-PRODUCERS WHEN IT CAME TO CONTRACTS (KEYWORD: ACTOR PRODUCER! AS IN PRODUCER=PROFITING AT THE EXPENSE OF OTHER ACTORS!) MAYBE JUST MAYBE YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. HAVE A GOOD LIFE YOURSELF.

    Dont come to any big city, but in particular, dont come to L.A., N.Y., S.F.without a VERY good job or parents or friends you can stay with, a house or apt lined up with at least one year rent paid. I cannot tell you how homeless people there are who came to big cities who believed they had what it takes to make it big and ended up homeless. Just because you were big in your hometown as a jock or actor does not mean you have what it takes to even be able to afford a basic lifestyle in these big cities. Check out the median income of members of Actors Equity in NY, in SAG in L.A. or can afford the rents in S.F. Educate yourself with more than just random videos and a few people's experience. Sorry to burst people's bubbles but my friends and I have seen the results of these "come to the big city" videos and most dont end well. Most longterm successful artists will tell you they have had good years and bad years, but we have not seen years like this before with rents for a one bedroom apt averaging 2500-4000 a month for rent, groceries sooo expensive, etc. Years ago I caught my first glimpse of the warnings of what its really like with re the entertainment biz when I saw a costar of a very famous sitcom in the unemployment line as well as another one doing focus groups to make some cash. The film For Your Consideration is a satire but it is based on the realities most actors (and musicians face) coming to L.A. or N.Y.

      excellent advice, Atlanta is a good market for actors and more livable, I'd go there, build a portfolio and then go to LA later

    • @IMeMineWho
      @IMeMineWho ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelsix9684 Yes, however, bear in mind the average salary of all actors in SAG in Los Angeles (and you have to have lines (as well as the initiation fee to join SAG or 5 SAG vouchers to join SAG) is still about 35k..and that is from Tom Cruise to the lowest background actor. There are 166k in LA SAG so if I was coming to Los Angeles from somewhere else, I would take that into account as many productions film other than Los Angeles. I would come to the big cities only after amassing a years' worth of rent, bearing that to get a nice studio or one now is about 2900 a month!

      Lucky you for your good fortune. You will need a good car, and if you do not have to worry about $$, research tge different spots in LA. Most people in the Valley rarely venture over the hill, most people in the beach areas do not often venture to the city. If I did not have to worry about $$ I would choose a condo, but if you choose to go the apt route, try not to only be bedazzled by layout and ask about plumbing, etc. Many Hollywood and Who apt buildings advertise sexy looking buildings, but some are ok and some end up a nightmare! Check out crimes stats too. And the areas of town you like..each part of town is different: the Valley favors people who get their first home; Hollywood is full of starstruck wannabees or might bes, Weho is still Boystown and the beach cities are for the laid back. Even in Hollywood or Weho, since the pandemic things are quite tHan they used to be.

    Tip #1: Go to Austin instead.

    • @michaelsix9684
      @michaelsix9684 ปีที่แล้ว

      Austin is very pricey, overcrowded and very HOT in summer, traffic is bad now, and you will need a car

    • @brotherted9212
      @brotherted9212 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelsix9684
      Pricey compared to what? Los Angeles? No. And while LA does have better weather, LA gets over 100 every summer too. And it’s relative. I’ll take Austin’s 2-3 months of hot summer to NYC’s 3-5 months of cold winter any time.
      Regarding traffic, compared to what? LA? LA traffic is immensely worse. This video is about Los Angeles.
      For sure nowhere is perfect, and even if a mythical place were perfect for you, it may not be perfect for me. But Austin & LA are comparable in more ways than most cities, except that Austin feels like the future version & LA the legacy version.

    Tony I'm sure you're trying to help by suggesting a savings minimum of five thousand dollars but your wrong. What's required is motivation. Poor people have constantly surprised others with their actions. Above all, motivation will conquer all. However since I'm born here I'd never suggest someone to move here.
