Auditions can usually be done on public transit but once you're booked you might have a 7AM call time in Santa Clarita and if you're living in Burbank or Hollywood that's going to be tough. You really do need a car unless you're self booking with no agent and look VERY carefully at every single casting notice.

I moved to Los Angeles back in July of last year. I watched your video one of the first weeks after I moved out here and I just wanted to personally thank you! I have booked a bunch of things on casting network over the past year and other sites and I now qualify for SAG (haven’t even hit the year mark yet) I am hoping you are getting all the good karma/blessings because you truly deserve it for making this video and helping others who truly have no idea where to begin. You have no idea how much I needed this! I’m 17 years old living in a town where acting and movies/tv shows are unheard of. I live in the UK too so my plan is to move to LA by the time I’m 20 and that’s all I know. I have no idea how I’ll become an actor I’ve never had experience in acting (school plays when I was 5) and I’m scared to think about failing. It’s not an option. I appreciate this video so much because I’m only just now really serious about this ‘dream’ of mine and I’m researching how I can make this work. I hope I can achieve this goal of mine primarily to prove to myself and those who have never really believed in me, but I know it isn’t an overnight thing. I've been on one heck of a journey. I did an audition for NYLA and out of 300 only 5 passed. I was in the top 5, but I had to pay this fee. My mom said you should never do acting gigs where they make you pay, but I really wanted to do it. My mom couldn't afford it and so I couldn't go. If I had paid, they would've made me move to L.A to be in their agency. It's been a year since I auditioned and I've been practicing and trying to improve my acting skills and dancing and singing just in case I'm in a musical one day. My bsf wants to be a famous fashion designer and she applied for an apprenticeship at Louis Vuitton and Prada. They both accepted her but she chose Prada. We want to become big celebrities together at the same time. We're both 16 turning 17 soon and we won't stop till we reach the top. We've both failed before, but we got back up and we're gonna keep trying. My name is Abbrienne Emerson (Abbie) and I'm white with brown hair. If you see me as a star one day just know that i made it!! Wish me luck!!

I came into this video expected half realistic points and half “if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere” “just don’t give up” bullshit but to my surprise, this was stupidly realistic and very well thought out. Every single point is valid and something everyone should take into account. Brilliant video and definitely going to subscribe! Hope all the acting is working out for you and you get a massive break through soon. 👌🏼

You just have to put alot more effort to it. Now it's harder for me to understand how people dare to call the arts and easy job and not a real profession when artist tend to be very self-sufficient and self-taught people. Thank you so much for your advise. I hope you the best of luck and success with your career and personal goals. Keep hustling Bro!
Definitely helpful 💯💯 some things that were uncertain prior knowledge to me were confirmed, but ALOT of it was new information as well. I wish you the very best in your acting career , tysm ❤
These videos are not usually helpful for me, but this is an exception! Thank you for all of this great information. I will definitely be referring back to this when I start acting.
Excellent video Will with fabulous information! You are so right...Waze is a terrific app for navigating LA. Giving oneself lots of time to get to auditions is so important. Time is money in the biz and first impressions are everything!! A great side hustle is working for a casting director as a reader. You’ll get the opportunity to know what happens in the audition room, you get to meet some important folks, you get to learn from more experienced actors and you get to see what works and doesn’t work in the audition room. Don’t be afraid to hire a private coach or dialect coach to help you prepare for an audition. And network, network, network! LA can be cut throat, so surround yourself with positive loving people who you can trust and call on for support and encouragement!
I have a tip for getting headshots for free! If you or a family member has an iPhone 7+, IPhone 8+ or iPhone X use the portrait mode in the camera to take super good headshots. In this mode, it will focus on your face and blur out the background to make it look like a professional picture. Most the time they even look better than the professional ones🤷🏻♀️❤️
No, absolutely not. Always get professional headshots. That faux depth of field from portrait mode can be spotted five miles away. Not to mention, there’s a certain style to entertainment headshots that these photographers specialize in. Do NOT use an iPhone to try and imitate a real DSLR/DoF. It’s not professional.
Thanks so much for this clear video. This is the path my teen wants to take and as a parent it's reassuring to hear the steps and reality in your positive and balanced video. Thank you!

Oriana Young well I’m currently in the 10th grade I just got into acting so I’m planning on taking a theater class for my junior year and choir too.My plan is to model for a small company or maybe if I get lucky enough a big company like vans etc or any clothing line in general the trick is to get people’s attention and I mean any people that way people can recognize you I’m planning on doing this while I get a bachelors or degree in acting that way for when I audition it would make it more easy since people will know you and what you are capable of and they can also have a look at some features from you
Thanks so much for this informative video! I think this is my second youtube comment ever, and the first that’s this long! I’m so glad I saw your video. You seem very honest, practical, positive, driven, and patient. Lots of great info. 👍 I’m going to LA in October for 2.5 months for some acting and tap dancing classes, and to test the waters of how it’d be like to be an aspiring asian actress there. Would be even more of an impressive video if you could mention some tips or links on obtaining different types of working visas in the acting circle in LA. But I know the policies probably change a lot in the states when it comes to foreigner policies. Anyway, you’re great! Hope to see you more on the big screens. Best of luck!
Give Thanks thank you for your long lovely comment! Unfortunately, I don’t know a lot about visas, but I’ll keep my eyes open for anybody willing to talk about it. Have fun during your trip to LA! And don’t take it too seriously, have some fun and take in the city 🌃 :)

Ethan 84 thanks man. I’m trying to keep it real. This industry can be glamorous no doubt, but it’s a whole lot of work and time. I don’t want people to get the wrong idea. 🤙🏼
This is awesome. Thank you. I sent this to my brother when he was moving and it helped him alot. Fast forward years later and he is now a working actor. Big ups, respect Mr. Will.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm moving to LA in a couple of weeks and this was a very well rounded list of tips to help Actors like me make it. GOD bless!
I don't often comment on TH-cam, but that was a really well thought out video, and you spoke about a lot of practical stuff that others don't talk about. Awesome job.

Break legs!
This video was so helpful and informative. I’m thankful that I found this video it’s a blessing! I’m gonna try and take all the advice
Your video was like help sent from heaven to me. I had so many doubts about persuing a career in acting and know i don't. You help me realize that acting is like any other job.
Cool, thank you
How to not get an audition 101
Not even close unless you have good editing skills. Best to invest in pro ones still unless they ask for a selfie style one.
Thank you!
I’m so happy it helps all these years later!
I plan on moving to LA soon to become one of the biggest actors in history.
Edit: thank you everyone I honestly appreciate the positivity and support 💜
Edit edit: I’d greatly appreciate if y’all just checked out my channel and leave a comment on my acting videos and subscribe 💜 thank you everyone

Hey !!! I’m from India and I’m planning to move to LA for making an acting career. I obviously have no idea about how things happen there. After watching your video I surely know a lot . I’m going to work on all of this one by one. And be prepared before I move there. It’s scary but a feeling inside me tells me to do it.

I’m from Ireland and I really want to be an actor. I want to move to la and start my career but it seems very overwhelming as there is a lot to know . This video explains a lot so thank you. Does anyone else have any tips to start.
Oriana Young well I’m currently in the 10th grade I just got into acting so I’m planning on taking a theater class for my junior year and choir too.My plan is to model for a small company or maybe if I get lucky enough a big company like vans etc or any clothing line in general the trick is to get people’s attention and I mean any people that way people can recognize you I’m planning on doing this while I get a bachelors or degree in acting that way for when I audition it would make it more easy since people will know you and what you are capable of and they can also have a look at some features from you
Ani Robledo wdym “Just got into acting?” Like a class for acting or?
Apersonwholikes Cats yea for my junior year which is the upcoming school year I signed up for theater arts

Thanks so much for this informative video! I think this is my second youtube comment ever, and the first that’s this long! I’m so glad I saw your video. You seem very honest, practical, positive, driven, and patient. Lots of great info. 👍
I’m going to LA in October for 2.5 months for some acting and tap dancing classes, and to test the waters of how it’d be like to be an aspiring asian actress there.
TheWillyDubz Thank you🙏🏻 Will stay safe and enjoy every day there. 👍
