Kira is, in fact, using the Freedom in *precisely* the intended role and range most of the time: Area suppression and disabling of priority targets at range.

They essentially tried to pack the fire support capabilities of a battleship into that thing (even though it's fast enough to be used as a dogfighter in a pinch) so the Multiple Lock On System may very well be derived from a battleship's FCS, which most definitely can handle that many targets. And given that context, him just beam spamming things into oblivion actually makes a fair bit of sense. It's funny, but the Freedom was *made* for that.
The reason why Kira spams so much is that the Strike Freedom has pretty much the best targeting system of any gundam series. So if you have a gundam that has rapid-multi-auto lock plus infinite ammo, wouldn't you also spam it like hell too?
I think lore wise the zabanya wins over SF in terms of multi-lock number. But its disadvantage is that unlike the SF where only the railguns can run out of ammo, the zabanya's rifle bits may need to replenish their GN particle reserves. The SF DRAGOON may also run out of power, but he still have the twin beam rifle and the beam cannon which in itself is quite powerful

People QQ about Kira way too much, everyone has a battle style, some go close range, like Athrun, some go long range, like Kira, Kira is not a close range fighter despite having two beam sabers, so why do you expect him to battle like that? I know this is six months later but I have to point this out. The problem with the Strike Freedom being OP is the fact that because of how OP it is Kira becomes INVINCIBLE once he gets it. Never losing a fight and doesn't even get scratched at all by the ending. The closest he did get to losing was when Rey and Shinn double teamed him during the Second Battle of Orb, but Athrun eventually stepped in to help him out. It was also in an environment where he couldn't really maximize the Strike Freedom's full potential either. In comparison the 00 Gundam, while strong, wasn't really that OP as it suffered from being unable to maximize it's potential thanks to the inability to use TRANS-AM without malfunctioning. It takes being upgraded into the 00-Raiser for it be truly OP, but even then it's still possible to match it as eventually proven when Ribbons takes it on with the Reborns Gundam, a mech that's arguably inferior to the 00-Raiser thanks to its Pseudo-GN Drives, and even suffers from a double KO at the end. That's a lot more than what could be said about the Strike Freedom and it zero loss record. Hence why some people are more accepting of it even despite S2 of the 00 series being more Super Robot-ish than the usual Gundam. (G-Gundam don't count of course. That's a special one right there)

In SRW Z3 Kira/Strike Freedom actually kinda sucked, He was still good but he kind of joins at a bad time, You already pretty much have your whole team planned out at that point for me, he just ended up being Shinn Asuka's wingman
Um what, he's the one of the best characters in the game by far. His map attack is straight up broken, combined with giving him basically infinite turns.
SEED gave 20% evade bonus (ACE bonus gave another +20%) and upgrade bonus gave +15 to evade stat. He ended up being one of the most dodgiest character with high crit. His skill stat is high too, you can give him attack again for extra punch.
Fuck Zeta and 00 Raiser... What about TURN A? That beast had a Colony Laser, Full Teleportation, Moonlight Butterfly, just to name a few. But unlike them, 00 Raiser gets beaten even with that much power, so does Zeta... Plus, it requires a special pilot for these two. And let's not forget, Kira has been succeded in Beamspamming by Matilda Cruz (Puru 12 from Unicorn Gundam).
