You can always tell by the price. KOs are always about 1/3 the price of the official. If it feels too good to be true, it's probably a knockoff. Otherwise you're good. Also the monobrow is a dead giveaway.
For me the big difference is THE PRICE !!! The quality of KO is very very good, & the price is excellent. Takara the price is crazy, not for me. Thanks for your video. ;-)

I just got mine from AliExpress. Was marketed as a KO but I think I got a legit Takara. The vertical corrugation, the glow, the stamped number, the heavy encased plastic the KOs don't have, the monobrow, the centered Decepticon logo, no scuff or chipped paint anywhere, the shinier eyes et al. It's all there, everything sharper and brighter. Could it be I got an official figure by mistake? And at a hell of a price! Anyways, this has always been my favorite Megs and I finally got him, worth the two-month wait. Thanks for the awesome review!

I meant to buy a KO as even a KO Masterpiece Megs is pretty good so I leave that decision to you. Make sure you specify that the box is well protected. After struggling with the silencer myself, I found that there's a rotating lock ring that the manual makes reference to. It's like the last two rings before the extended barrel. They rotate to make the suppressor iron sights line up with the gun and that locks the suppressor in place. The reverse removes it.
The one I have is pretty much perfect, except the paint is darker than these ones. Zero paint chips, quality design, no engineering issues, etc. I really like this figure. It would be my number one decepticon if it wasn't for the fact I also just bought Fan Toys Galvatron, which is just a leap in class IMO.
I no longer have this, so if its not in the review then i cant say for sure sorry. I do know though that the ko takara has improved slightly over time.
David Trofimov Agreed, especially when buying KO items. It's best to purchase them from known sellers like Show.Z Store and TF Direct. These sites will cover you if anything is wrong with the item (defective, broken, pieces missing, etc.). The really cheap items on EBay might be a terrible version of the KO version of a figure.
I've got problems around the same area in the gun mode on my official MP-36. As for the silencer, the middle bit where the bulge is turns around so that it can slide onto the gun barrel easier. It... still usually scratches it, but anyway. Trying to line everything up perfectly is actually impossible, as I found out when I was last playing around with him. And now I regret ever trying to line it up perfectly or even transforming it again because it scratches so easily. It's not everywhere but it's enough that it's quite depressing to play with. Seems like this KO has all the problems that the official one has but is a fraction of the price, so... I mean, it's better to buy this and be disappointed that it scratches than pay for the official one and be disappointed when it inevitably scratches. Trust me...

I'd say the slight differences are worth saving the extra dollars spent on the official release. Doubtful of ever transform it into gun mode more than once regardless of which I would own, so that's not an issue for me. I'm curious to see how the others stack up now.
Brian Borst absolutely. Mine came with the normal eyebrows, in the box with lines up and down. He's Kos SEMO most to good... I have a few others period. Finally just got Megatron, was worried about the face eyebrows but pleasantly surprised that it was normal like the original. Very happy
I ordered my Ko on amazon thinking it was a takara and was confused because of the small differences and was scared I had bought a ripoff megs. This video prved me wrong and now I can't wait for my KO to arrive.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this or if you noticed this later on but the sides of the box actually are different. There's an autobot insignia in the transformers logo instead of the decepticon insignia
To fix the lose barrel in the back is take some super glue and move it back and forwards and hold down the bottom and top where the barrel connects and it should tighten up
Funny, I just got my KO in the Box has lines up and down, the figure face has the regular eyebrows thank goodness... It's great, like my other K oh I've gotten. I saw another Video math said the same thing you are... But mine is obviously different. Different batch? This thing's awesome 90 bucks
It looks pretty good, but you're still paying a good chunk of change for the KO. I bought the Takara version because I know it will be good and it will be worth quite a bit later on. If you really don't care about selling your Masterpiece later on, then this KO is just fine.
Great job on your video as always. I like the little touches like the disappear FX and the fun end poses. I noticed you had some trouble with you display floor because of the uneven surface it provides. A sheet of glass cut to size might help, but it might also reflect some glare. Your videos have a really nice look abut them and are very informative.
+Cardboard Bots Yeh I've thought about a sheet of Perspex, but like you've said, will probably reflect too much light. I actually had a little trouble with the official. The ratchets in the ankle. From default they click once forward, then from default click twice back. The KO is the opposite and made it substantially easier to pose on my surface.

K.o. Megatron is the best.. I actually have one the monobrow(Unibrow) is there everthing is find minor scuffs here and there but hardly can see it unless close up only paid 99 bucks U.S. dollars

I got my ko today, fixed a lot of the issues. The legs are still hard as anything to moved . My one does also have some paint issues. But still amazing

I think for the price the ko is better. I was told the knockoffs are made better sometimes. They are produced exactly like the official ones. The differences are hard to tell. If you have to look that closely at something to tell then all that matters is price!! I bought 2 ko yesterday and I feel like I bought official ones. The strength of the barrel seemed stronger on the ko. Its funny watching the video because it seems ridiculous to think you need an official one and lm not a third party type of person. But when it comes to these masterpieces, I will buy the ko versions all day long saving myself some cash! 💰🤑 Last thing. Both have their pros and cons so they are equally good so I'll choose the one that costs less.
KO's are Ko's if its it's not bn official it's not worth collecting. All Ko figure start off cheap and the resale value is through the floor. Only official for me. I'd rather pay a lil more than sacrifice quality and collectability
My KO was excellent until I transformed it. Now I have all the same exact issues you do. The barrel is floppy and the same shoulder is floppy now and won’t tab in. Very disappointed because it is the best Megatron I’ve ever had

Its very strange, I bought one of the "ko takara" style mp-36 for $75, every review ive seen goes through all the differences where the packaging and the figure are concerned. Most are subtle differences such as the amount of gloss or the direction of the cardboard. My question is this; I have checked my KO over and over and it has NONE of these differences....the cardboard goes vertical, the gloss is the same, every supposed difference is NOT present on my KO. Could I have accidentally been sent an official by mistake(very unlikely) or do you think the KO manufacturers are just stepping up production in order to better match the official (far more likely)?
It's made by the same company...anything made in China is immediately ripped off by the manufacturer and sold half price while they're still making your design. But most companies know this so it's still profit even tho they're getting ripped off by that very company.
@@troyskinnard1393 the 3rd party Apollyon masterpiece Megatron is far better in many ways to MP36. Only real downside is the absence of alternate faces for him. Plus the shoulders come loose real easy unless you use the replacement joints which have to be broken in....watch any tutorial video on it.

I see no point in paying for the masterpiece when they have Ko's that are just as good maybe minus a few points but it's not worth that Masterpiece price I would get the KO unless you're some serious collector and you just got to have the official

I bought what I thought was the KO version, but after seeing this video, I’m not so sure anymore. The box has vertical corrugation, and the unibrow is present on all the faces. It has the same slightly blue tint paint in the sides of the feet, but the serial number on the box looks like it was cut, or possibly stamped, and the red paint on the side of the body doesn’t go all the way to the edge. The strength of the hip joints match the official and the mind control helmet looks like it has that extra paint. But the Decepticon symbol is slightly off Center. So what did I get, a KO or the official?
Mine's similar as yours. the only thing that stands out being a KO is the serial number and the front left/right section of his diaper. A stamped serial has a rectangular indentation (based on this video) that surrounds the cut. Based on the review in the video, the 2 flaps at the front of his diapers are very tight. in the genuine version, you can move the flaps like 45 degrees without breaking them This said, my Targetmaster Hot Rod MP-40 looked genuine although it's sold as a KO. It has the serial number indentation, additional instructions in Chinese added into the box outside the plastic bag, and a big hasbro.com.cn warning sticker "not for children under age of x".

I will never understand why people shake their figures to test out joints no ones going to display them shaking around all over the place if the joint can hold on its own without outside influence then the joint is fine especially if a leg which is going to be on solid ground most of the time

Theres only the Collection Kingdom ko MP10's. Which are a little problematic, but in my experience better than this mp36 ko. Go with Infinite Transformation or thf Megs ^_^

I just received my KO and they seemed to fix all of these issues. The paint job is superb. No bubbles in the plastic. They even fixed the eyebrow!

Another noticeable difference is on the box. The Takara has a Decepticon logo whereas the KO has an Autobots logo.

Anything is possible. Most reviews (like mine) are from 2017. So it's entirely possible stock manufactured 2018 no longer has these differences.

@@troyskinnard1393 the 3rd party Apollyon masterpiece Megatron is far better in many ways to MP36. Only real downside is the absence of alternate faces for him. Plus the shoulders come loose real easy unless you use the replacement joints which have to be broken in....watch any tutorial video on it.
Hey B&B Super random but any tips on painting my MP Seeker eyes? Id like them to be a bit brighter. Should I paint it silver 1st then red or jus a red and be done with it? How bout clear coat.? Any help would be great to me b4 I mess it up lol.

Did they correct the monobrow on newer KOs? I'm curious because i've seen an MP36 for sale and its box has horizontal corrugation but the figure itself has a monobrow.

Official MP-36 is on Amazon Japan for only 140 USD now. Just copped on myself and don't think it will last at this price. Thank me later.
I see no point in paying for the masterpiece when they have Ko's that are just as good maybe minus a few points but it's not worth that Masterpiece price I would get the KO unless you're some serious collector and you just got to have the official

Sure, you’re not buying straight from Takara Tomy, but there are still tons of people who are, and Transformers, Hasbro, and Takara are not going anywhere soon.
KO's seem a solid buy for my kids TBH - these are amazing as a Lover of G1 and it'll give my boy an awesome thing to mess around with.
I bought what I thought was the KO version, but after seeing this video, I’m not so sure anymore. The box has vertical corrugation, and the unibrow is present on all the faces. It has the same slightly blue tint paint in the sides of the feet, but the serial number on the box looks like it was cut, or possibly stamped, and the red paint on the side of the body doesn’t go all the way to the edge. The strength of the hip joints match the official and the mind control helmet looks like it has that extra paint. But the Decepticon symbol is slightly off Center. So what did I get, a KO or the official?
Mine's similar as yours. the only thing that stands out being a KO is the serial number and the front left/right section of his diaper. A stamped serial has a rectangular indentation (based on this video) that surrounds the cut.
Based on the review in the video, the 2 flaps at the front of his diapers are very tight. in the genuine version, you can move the flaps like 45 degrees without breaking them
This said, my Targetmaster Hot Rod MP-40 looked genuine although it's sold as a KO. It has the serial number indentation, additional instructions in Chinese added into the box outside the plastic bag, and a big hasbro.com.cn warning sticker "not for children under age of x".
Ko box has a chrome autobot logo in the 'Transformers' sign on the side. If youre still unsure, pm me photos on my facebook page.

I will never understand why people shake their figures to test out joints no ones going to display them shaking around all over the place if the joint can hold on its own without outside influence then the joint is fine
especially if a leg which is going to be on solid ground most of the time

This one has no brand, it comes in a knock off takara box.
However, I'd highly recommend the Infinite Transformation ko mp36.

Theres only the Collection Kingdom ko MP10's. Which are a little problematic, but in my experience better than this mp36 ko.
