Fellow 1970s fan - I'm old enough that those styles were, for me, what the slightly older 'cool girls' wore, and my mother always forbade. Now I'm nearly sixty and I can wear what I like - so I do :)

"And then X was half-price..." starts so much craft chaos, hehehe
That's how my fabric stash grew to well beyond where I'd ever intended it to be...
I think for the most part I get as much out of the cover drawing than the actual partern does because I need to modify anything fitted so much I might as well just draft it from oneo f my blocks. But "couldn't or wouldn't design for myself" definitely counts.
And I'd totally have bought that one just for the sleeves too.
I TOO LOVE THE 70's. Stephanie Canada's always hating on 70s patterns in her hauls and those are always the ones I'm most interested in!

Patterns have been a really valuable learning tool for me. A jumping off point for questions about grain, ease, techniques etc. that I might not have come up with on my own. Kind of like a cheat for the issue of "I only know what I know" - a pattern might show a way of doing something that you didn't know was an option before - for example: if you were only ever taught set in sleeves, a pattern with directions to sew the sleeve to the arms eye while everything is still flat therefore making one long side seam from hem to cuff might be a major revelation!
Edit: "I just want to be comfy" = moto for life

For over 60 years I’ve enjoyed looking at patterns. When they went on sale for $.65, then $.97, then $1.99, I’d go sit and look at pattern books. I figured even if I never made them, it was my chosen entertainment mode and I could look at patterns for an hour or more and it would still cost less than a movie. Then, I could consider the patterns to all be free!

Ash, For looser patterns, grab your fabric, wrap it around your body and play with the ease. Find the width at which the fabric volume is too much … around your hips, around your knees, etc. Compare to the pattern measurement at that region and you know how much to slash and overlap or fold out (or, possibly, spread). Game changer.
Also measure a lot of body points: armhole depth, upper chest width, bust depth and height - and compare to the pattern. I need a lot of shoulder mobility in my garments, and measuring my upper chest width in scapular retraction vs relaxed shoulder is … wowzers. No wonder I prefer stretch to woven patterns, I need way more ease in some areas!
    Awesome haul video.

I’m trying to make more stuff to make room for more fabric but realised that don’t have enough washed mockup fabric, so I have to make the big stuff first so that I cannibalise the mockup for smaller projects. Yes to a pattern library tour!
Those are some good finds. Well done. Nice that one of the Big 4 seem to be listening to us, their customers and releasing vintage patterns we actually want (thank you Stephanie Canada for doing the heavy lifting...). And Mimi G doing collaborations with designers is marvelous.
_Storage suggestion_ - I have two lawyer-style vintage briefcases that I use to store my patterns. I sort them out by decade and for things like pj's or blouses. It's nice to be able to flip through a vertical stash.
Good for you for shopping for different styles and approaches to the patterning you selected. I tried to do that when I was shopping for mine (they range from the 1920's to about the 60's/modern and I _tried_ not to buy similar designs). Because I'm presently on the hunt for a third lawyer briefcase... I have officially reached the "I have more patterns than I can sew in one lifetime" stage, rueful lol. Enjoy the coming projects. You'll get to these outfits when you can. Cheers.

      Another vote for pattern tour...
Working off from a pattern that you hack and slash into something close to what you want... for me it's the only way to go. Eventually I figure I'll do one of those pattern block thing-y's.
Hey Robin! How's summer treating you so far? How's the fam? How's the Grandkid?
I got lucky and I'm sharing a community garden plot with a neighbour on our floor. Garden is only 3 blocks away and I'm enjoying mucking about with vegetables. Been dragging my feet but I'm finally going to be picking up my renewed fishing license. I want to go stand in a river for a while and fishing is the best excuse I've got, lol.
Also doing slow progress with that dolman sleeve blouse I've been working on. I'm trying to be as fancy and as high-level-sewing as I can. So far I've pad stitched the cuffs and collars and put in two of the four gussets (those things are weird).

@@stevezytveld6585 hey Cathy. So far summer is going well. Trying to figure out everyone’s holidays and figure some trips. Watching the forest fire near my daughters place it’s contained but anything is still possible. They have their to go bags packed incase.
I’m glad to hear that your garden plot is so close. It’s such a great idea to have them in your area. Much more area for things that aren’t easy on your balcony. Fishing is fun I haven’t been in years. My son goes out fairly regularly I should join him and the kid. Of course I’ll have to find an old style rod and real. I’m not figuring out the weird thing he uses lol. I should ask my dad he probably still has mine.
The blouse sounds lovely. I haven’t really done anything but trying to keep up with regularly scheduled crap. My thyroid feels off. So I have the energy and motivation of a mushroom! Fortunately I have a thyroid appointment towards the end of the month. So we will figure that out. I’m so tired of everything changing with it every few years. I’m becoming cranky about the whole thing! There are a couple of doctors on TH-cam suggesting diet changes might help it would be hard. I don’t have the energy to try right now. Something else to work on.

@@robintheparttimesewer6798 Fire season. I hope and pray that fire stays contained. Documents, photos and pets at the ready - that is so much to be living with. I'm so sorry she (and you) are going through this.
As for the garden, we got things in late. And we're still planting seeds. So, I dunno what kind of production we'll be getting, but it's nice to have an excuse to wander over before sunset to water the plot. Now all I have to do is set up the balcony veg & herb garden. Hopefully there are still some plants left...
Definitely talk to your Dad about your old rod and reel. Vintage is the only way to go. Those bate-caster plastic things just look like a hazard - bird-nests to end all bird-nests. And you have the Kiddos to go out with - Huzzah! Kids are fascinated by gears these days - Grandkiddo is going to love it.
Go easy on yourself, yes? You're allowed to not run at "normal-for-you" speed. Save futzing with the diet stuff until you see the doc. If you're low energy already, if he want's you to make more diet changes you'll just feel that much more tired. Or, at least that's how it works with my brain.
Yeah. Recently went through a prescription rebalance for the whole mood situation. Took a month and a half to get my brain back. Which is a long way of saying... pace yourself? And take a bubble bath with candles and music. If you're a mushroom, be a comfy one?? lol...

I've used Butterick, Simplicity, and McCall's patterns most of my life. I haven't tried as many Burda, New Life or other smaller companies as much but do have some of their costume patterns. New Look was a 90s favorite also. For my body shape I find Butterick fits me best with minimal adjustments but I do love having commercial patterns as a starting point for any dresses or costumes I want to make. I remember many of these styles through the years! My mom made many of my clothes then until I started making my own, especially for Easter or special occasions. As for patterns still in print--they will keep them as long as they are selling. There are some patterns that may not have lasted past one season that I missed but others I don't want (knits!) will be in stock for 20+years.
