The thing I love the most in this video is your superb playing in the background! Wow, man! At my best days, I'm not really close to that. You are a very humble and likeable guy and of course a great musician! I'd love to see some longer lesson content from you on a variety of technical and improvisation stuff! Always hungry for insights of different approaches from different players. This is, what helps the most, in my opinion. You often find something of yourself in someone and can relate better. And concerning "SOLO". I know it already from Tom Quayle videos. ;) Cheers, man! Have a great weekend! Markus :)
Thanks for your kind words Markus. I do need to find the time to make some lesson content, I guess its mainly because I struggle with guitar, that I don't feel I'm the best person to really 'tell others' about how to improvise or improve. I can teach beginners and intermediates the foundations of guitar to a professional level, but when it comes to developing creativity and improvisation, that's a never ending thing that's hard to conceptualise. I do have some thoughts around the subject which have helped me personally that might be interesting to a select few people however! Thank you once again for your kind words. And regarding Tom, who doesn't know Tom, and who doesn't know Tom who isn't already aware of Solo! - However, I feel strongly that this app could benefit more people who might not be aware of Tom (rare!) , or the intervallic way of looking at the fretboard, or who may be looking for a useful tool in their practice. Tom and Dave are friends of mine too, so its nice to try to support them somewhat. Have a great weekend!
I've used the app for months now. Everything boils down to interval shapes so I mostly use the random passing tone exercise so I practice every interval type on ever string set and location starting with different fingers for the reference root. Got fast with it now. I guess the next step is to start using this knowledge over backing tracks maybe adding enclosures to the chord tones. Just looking now at how to put it all to use.
Great review! Got the app, it's awesome, but one thing I can't figure out -- how can you practice locating just (e.g.) your basic major triad chords with this? When I scroll through the chord change options in the app, I see only more complex chord options. Even the "basic" examples all seem to be 7th chords at least. I guess I could just select 7th chords and choose to work just on root, 3rd, and 5th, but it seems weird that you'd need a workaround for the fundamental triad chords? Or can you find those somewhere?? Thanks for any help you can provide!
hi, you play the guitar great. Please tell me in the app the modes of the minor inclination are presented as major modes with changed degrees, when I am used to the fact that the Dorian mode is a minor with a raised 6th degree and the Phrygian is a minor with a lowered 2nd degree. It turns out you need to retrain yourself, what do you think about this issue, friend?
