- Discord woke up and chose violence. Well in this case, chose to anger a bunch of Discord users.
Because they decided to patch my tutorial on how to get the old Discord mobile UI / version. And while doing so, they completely disregarded doing something that would make us Discord users happy. C'est la vie I guess. Discord struggles to make a good update.
But for the rest of the news, I talk about what's coming up on Discord. And ironically, there is a really good experiment coming out for people who want Discord to be minimal. Your Discord server's member list will no longer be a cluttered mess. And what's that, more things to spend your money on in the shop! (I made that sound exciting, everyone broke dawg). And finally the Discord mod view. Which isn't AR glasses to the nearest fast food, it's something different. Rip my hopes and dreams ig.

New UI does incredible things tho! Like, seriously! I love the new features where Discord now includes massive blank spaces after messages for no discernable reason, or when it just doesnt send messages; hides features that used to be easy to find... Destroy the usability of the friends list in the messages tab... Integrating a swipe to reply which is completely pointless...
10/10 Discord experience.

@@theai_1 my favorite is when you are in a voice chat with someone and the UI controls don't appear when you tap, swipe, or do anything. Want to disconnect? You can't! Friends forever!
And we can't forget massive amounts of lag! It teaches the user patience
Ngl, many issues like messages not sending, infinite "connecting" and things like that happened for me in the old UI too. At least now it doesn't randomly disconnect and loads faster - at least that's my experience

I'll be honest, the UI looks like whatever, literally my only gripe is just around the fact that swiping right to left does that dumb reply system I rarely ever use (and if I do use it I just long press on the message I want to reply to), when I used it so often on the old UI to view the online list, so if they can get that experimental feature into an actual feature I'll be a little more okay with the new UI
Long pressing on message to reply is time consuming so swipe to reply is better

I do wish you could pick different styles for it instead of just color themes (that don't really work)

Honestly the worst part of the new mobile update is how disconnected everything is. Making you have to do more motion, taps etc to get to things you could have got to with less movement and taps before.
I use both Desktop and Mobile Discord, but the new app is literally a downgrade. Everything is unresponsive, broken, reduces functionality and makes the end-user jump through hoops just do simple things.
Exactly. Unresponsive and broken are my main complaints. Can't open the emoji search or try to attach an image to upload without the app becoming super sluggish, unresponsive, and/or crashing.
oh yeah mobile favorite gifs don’t show up either and it’s so garbage lol. Mobile UI is still garbage, search is broken, can’t see images in pings and pins, recent mentions list is ugly, etc
I swear the way they organized their new ui is so confusing and just broken asf.
Idk on my end Discord works fine and did not yet had any crash 🤷♀️
Before - Swipe right and see all my servers and notifications and swipe left to go back
Now - Swipe Right, get put onto my messages or servers tab, swipe up to find the server I'm looking for or have to tap on the server icon to switch to the server menu and then scroll, then have to tap messages to go back to my messages and then tap on the message I want to return to

Discord should give us an option to switch back to the old UI

they won't, at best they will make the new ui slightly less worse but they will never add an option to toggle back
The old ui is still on android tablets, most likely because they havent yet made it for android tablets.
I have a little bit of the new ui on my android tablet, but its basicalky still the old ui.

At this point, they’re prob gonna make it worse by making the desktop ui look like the new mobile Ui.
You can still get around with the desktop or browser ui using some extensions so it wouldn't be much of a problem compared to mobile

Honestly my gripes with the new ui, beside the members list, is how they’ve nuked the search function in an irritating way for moderators, and made pins a mess if your server uses threads at all. All the threads pins show up in general channel pins, you can’t search just one thread, but you can only search one channel at a time, and the media has been cut from pins and they’re unnecessarily shortened each pinned message too. Discord how the hell am I supposed to check a members message history to figure out if they’ve had a trend in behaviour or smth I didn’t notice if I have to search all 25 channels once at a time

You can search more than one channel if you use the search bar that’s in the channel list. It’s stupid, I know, but you can do that.

The annoying thing is they recently broke the media uploading, which sometimes gets stuck on the screen requiring an app restart
I noticed it’s a lot more buggy than usual. I’ve had instances where I’ve had to press “photos” multiple of 4 times before it actually opened the photos
I don't even hate the new ui style that much, I just really dislike the change to the member list and server list system.

Worst part about Mobile is servers vs DMs being on two different tabs.
Member list? That’s just muscle memory, that can change. But being able to see all the servers along with the DMs? That was so convenient.

See I relied on the workaround because the mobile update straight up does not work on my phone. Discord has always been glitchy on my galaxy fold but the update fully breaks it. It randomly switches back and forth between versions in the middle of trying to use it. The entire bottom of the app is inaccessible and for me because it doesn't know how to deal wirh the home button.
Honestly, just get something like bluecord.

After the whole new UI fiasco, I deleted the app off my phone, left a negative review (for all the good that’ll do), and started using Discord web version in my browser. The downside is no gifs on mobile anymore, but that’s a sacrifice I’ll happily make to be rid of the awful new layout. At least until they come for those too, which wouldn’t surprise me anymore.

I love on mobile where every day it's completely random whether the plus on the bottom left will be for Images, Files, and Camera, with Nitro Gifting next to it, or if the Nitro Gift button will be replaced with the Images button. Glad that's never been consistent for years

My gripe with the new UI isn't even the swipe to reply - that's pretty standard on a lot of different platforms and pretty useful imo - but that they moved the DMs away from where they used to be. I couldn't find the DMs regularly with the new layout. But more importantly, it's broken. I can't use the camera in app; when I try to take a picture to send in the app, it crashes - and notifications mean nothing; I click on one, but it wouldn't take me to that channel. It would just choose a random channel, randomizing what was marked read or unread along the way.
The favorites section in the gif menu is broken for me. And half the time the emojis menu won't expand to half the screen like it used to, it just displays a half a centimeter which is barely enough to even see what I'm trying to click on. I wish they had just left it in beta for a little longer to iron out these really big issues. It's not some weird obscure thing I'm trying to do, I'm just trying to select an emoji.

i've just been using an old version of discord since forever and it works like a charm
Theyve not only reverted the setting, but theyve also totally unconviniently separated the file picker from the image picker
i see absolutely zero problem to wayback for old version (206.11 or lower)
and on pc i use betterdiscord with DTM-16 theme (returns very old interface)
I am so happy I am running version 74.10. responsible, no lag, etc. Only downside is no stickers and that I have to check for threads manually

I still use an older version of the app with the sparkles emoji trick. This UI is the best for phones in my opinion. I can see the latest news on the channels and can easily access the member list. And the server list is closer to the thumb and for me it's easier to navigate this way. It's hard for me to tear myself away from this version.
vendetta allows you to use that tabs v2 ui with new features, maybe its best to switch over to that. theres a few things you have to enable first though to get it to show up (you can find which experiments those are in the announcements channel)
though i will say i hella disagree that its the best for mobile discord, i much prefer vendetta with tablet mode plugin which is basically the first mobile ui/pc ui

Ever since the new mobile update, there has been a nasty privacy bug. For those who are always on invisible mode on Discord, every time they launch the Mobile app the status icon on your profile turns into online phone icon for a split second or so, and this is not visual, I confirmed it with few friends that every time I minimize and then open the app again my icon changes to the default which apparently is Online mobile before it loads the status you last set. Thats major flaw for celebrities and such who can potentially get stalked by someone 24/7 watching their profile status etc

If you're on Android, enable developer mode by tapping the build number 10 times and set the dpi to at least 600. That enables tablet mode and sets it back to the old design. You have to enable OLED in phone mode if you want it in tablet mode too, as it isn't available there.
Honestly, it did take me a while to get used to the new UI and disliked it at first but its easier to navigate now and new mechanics are also introduced like swiping to reply
The “swipe right to reply” is the only rescued thing off it

Btw for android users theres a modded APK called vendetta that supports plugins, one of which brings back the old ui
I have auto-updates off on my phone and updated discord right before they implemented the new mobile UI. I use Discord on mobile almost exclusively. Until this old version is completely unusable, I’m keeping it. The only features that I can’t use right now(like making stickers and buying profile decor), I can do on my computer.

The new mobile uui isn't awful, but the members and threads being hard to find is just, bad. That's like the only thing I would change.
I dont mind the UI (in fact I like being able to switch to dms instead of scrolling through my servers) besides the swipe right and the old search, the new one is just appalling
For me, I actually just got the new layout recently, and for some reason it converted back to the old layout like 3 days later, so, I dont know what happened, but I am back to the old layout.
I'm glad I'm not using Discord anymore

Swipe to reply was - and still is, on 215.24 stable - working with the old UI, if you manage to get it, that is. Swiping left replies to messages, swiping right then left opens the user list. As convenient as ever, and without needing to burn the search pop-up button into my screen because that is the only way to get into the search with swipe to reply enabled that does not melt the system navigation gestures.
Tbh, if discord listen to the community, discord would be the best or great community / chatting app.
Roblox did that once since 2009-2012 they still mocked roblox.

i’ve gotten used to the ui (still hate it) but now switching between desktop discord and mobile is a pain because everything is in a different place
one of my issues with the swipe to reply isnt just my muscle memory of swiping to see the member list... its that its WAY too sensitive and keeps activating a reply when im just trying to scroll through a chat. because depending how youre holding the phone, thumbs dont always move straight up or down on the edge of the screen, they might move in an arc, sliding a little bit to one side while going up or down as the thumb moves along its range of motion. and i frequently have that result in that *tiny* side movement result in opening a reply to a totally random message i happened to be scroll by. its a pain!

they should also fix the dm glitches where it doesnt actually remove the ping when you click the dm so you either have to click the X (right next to video call button) or click on another dm and then click on the dm you wanted to read.
It took me a bit to get used to it, but I don't mind the new UI. They've fixed things that bothered me for years (for example it's faster now on my phone). There are still some broken things, but that may be because I'm enrolled in the beta program.
Also, how did people only get the new UI in February? I've had it since like December.
