    I recently discovered your channel Nate. I researched and decided to check out your stuff on TKOR channel. Really, really enjoyed your presentation style and your partnership with Callie. I am scratching my head wandering why on earth they’d discontinue a winning format. You and Callie make a great partnership. I am now enjoying Nate of the internet. I’m a fan and I’ve subscribed. Loved the Q&A and love each of your projects. Just keep doing what you doing and you’ll soon be The King Of Experiment Universe!

    Nate.
    From someone who used to work In a recording studio I have to say I like what you made.
    One thing that I would suggest is making sure that any doors near the booth don't rattle, it'll come through on the recording.
    😀👍

    The only thing I would suggest to potentially improve the recording isolation booth, would be if instead of using those foam tiles, which would be a bit "busy" and "unsightly" for a video podcast, you used either some sort of heavier "tapestries" to absorb standing sound waves, or even if you hung sheets of cotton/nylon batting for stuffing blankets, and just replaced the cotton/nylon batting with the lights behind the batting for an indirect light source/glowing effect. I also wonder if a more direct, singular source of light, like all of the light coming from the ceiling, or at least above the chair level, would make it easier to see, since we're used to having a single light source (the sun) in the sky, and the majority of reading lamps have a single bulb, and not an array of light sources....Also, an exterior door would be better insulated both thermally and acoustically. The door used looked more like an interior door, for a bathroom, or a closet....But it depends on how insulated you need your booth to be acoustically insulated....You may want to consider adding a second fan, near the top, blowing outwards to better control temperature, especially for longer recording sessions, with body heat, and equipment heat building up. just some things to consider...Maybe a portable upright AC unit for the room, even if it's on it's lowest (slowest fan) setting, it shouldn't have a problem with maintaining the temperature in that 12 square foot space...And you could always baffle the output air stream from the AC unit to eliminate any noise, with the compressor assembly outside the booth....

  • @dchall8
    @dchall8 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, um, now that your project is finished, I'd like to suggest a way to do this at a very small fraction of the cost. The panels that go into hanging ceilings cost about 50 cents each, and they have an insulating feature which would obviate the need for extra insulation. You could prebuild them with the aluminum piece parts and attach it all to 2x2 framing for support. Use clear lenses on the ceiling to let light in from the room, and add LEDs as necessary for more light. Attach some panels to a 3x7-ft piece of luan plywood for a door. It's not going to look fancy, but if your budget is limited, this is another approach. Thinking about it a little more, you could build a 7x5 size or of 2x2 stock wood, and hang the ceiling panels wall panels with zip ties attached to each other (after drilling holes for grommets). The recording room doesn't need to be air tight if you already have a quiet room, and then you would not need the little fan through the wall.

    Nate the super small sound booth builder..
    If you build more maybe getting prehung doors ( speed things up ) maybe a slight bit bigger so you can do more then sit in 1 spot or maybe invite your favorite cohost over and do your podcast together without having to sit in the same chair.
    Lastly build into 1 of your walls a power strip so that you can unplug the entire room with 1 plug just because

  • @AtreyuGost
    @AtreyuGost 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You've got me wanting to do the same thing. My room has two HVAC vents in it, I could totally just build a booth around one with a vent on the outer wall of the booth to flow into the room as well. I may just do this.

    A few years ago I took a day class with a VO school. We all laughed when the instructor said most people start recording in the closet! It's true though because the clothing and other soft items inside muffle the echo. It's something I haven't pursued yet, but now that I have moved I might consider it.

  • @jonathanbates9928
    @jonathanbates9928 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely an unorthodox way to install a door. But, like you said, function was the goal, so hey go for it. Also, sometimes there's a little tab on the bottom of the knob where a small flathead screwdriver can be used to remove the knob.

    When I heard you say “2X3 boards”, I shuddered. My bro-in-law convinced me to use them when I built our basement. Never again. If you don’t use them immediately (like a week) you end up with Twizzlers. It’s 2X4’s for me from now on. 🙂

  • @dailythenoob
    @dailythenoob 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm surprised you complained about the room being echoey and then built the studio with the painted part pointing inward.
    I don't know, just guessing, but wouldn't it make sense to put the painted side out so you have more internal volume? That way you could get thicker foam pads and it wouldn't take any room away from the useable inside
    Also would look prettier from the outside

    It looks great and I'm sure it's functional but you have to make the outside look a bit nicer!! It pains me hahaha. It'd also probably look better on the inside if you got maybe some higher quality flood lights, removed the current wall string lights, and put the sound dampening foam all around so there aren't white spots sticking through.

    • @Pikawarps
