0:45 Speaking of remembering the first level of games 😅. Back when FF7 came out and I was 8, it took my forever to finish disc 1. By then my disc 2 got destroyed and couldn't play it. So I played disc 1 over and over and over and over. Finally found online saves and played Disc 3 and, to this day, when I replay FF7, disc 2 feels like such a chore while Disc 1 and 3 are an amazing nostalgia trip.
@whoaskedyoutolookatthisn ow that they are making their own assets and not reusing Bethesda assets, which is what gets the project canceled more than futurama has been canceled. I'm sure Bethesda will co.e up with another reason to sue, they have to protect their IP, it's part of owning an IP and keeping it.
I still remember the Just Cause 2 demo that came with an Xbox magazine. It was basically a repayable timed demo that let you do anything you wanted within the world alongside a mission or two from the campaign, once that time was up of course, you could always do it again and explore within that limit. Best advertisement demo for an open world game, just letting you have fun and yearn for more, needless to say, when I had enough money from working when I was 15, it was one of the first games I bought with my own money.
Yeah, it was something like 45 minutes or whatever, wasn't it? I think there was one or two super early on missions, but other than that it was just "go nuts"
The Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition for nintendo gamecube had a similar demo for Wind Waker. You got three saves at different points throughout the game and had 20 minutes to do what ever.
@assm0nk the Mario guy and the grey beard guy are well known. Admittedly they aren't tentpole actors like Bean or Stewart. Fallout4 had the og wonder woman
OMG PLEASE do Legend of Dragoon! I remember playing it on a display console at Best buy as a kid but I never got to own it. Please do it on Josh Strife Plays!
omg, I loved the old OPSM, I still have my old demo discs, little disc book binders full. nostalgia. I actually reminisced about the Silent Bomber demo while I watched your video, thanks for bringing those memories back.
I've only watched i think 3-4 hours of various elder scrolls reviews from Morrowind to Skyrim with separate reviews for the DLC for each. I'm also in the process of watching a 3 hour review of Skyrim that's apparently the first of 4 3-hour videos each focusing on a different aspect of the game.
I didn't have demo disks, but I had demos of other games on games that I bought. There was an Empire Earth 2 demo that I played a lot that only had the renaissance period in it, and I ended up getting the full game years later
Same here, I thought it was so cool that there were cannons and musketeers and whatnot when that trash old game AoE2 (you may have heard of it) only had bows and swords. Populous: the beginning was another RTS I loved. It went the other way back in fictional time to cavemen worshiping obelisks and an OP as F shaman who could cast absolutely epic spells. Played thru it again recently, loved it, but not as hard as I remember. the later planets you conquer are definitely a challenge tho
I really like your main channel Josh but then I noticed on your plays channel there are so many more games I played and interested in, now a third! Need to check out some videos in this one
Aww. you mentioned Legend of Dragoon. One of my fave games of all time. So much nostalgia and great storytelling about the winglies and the dragoons, And then Rose and Zieg, Would love to see you play that.
Akuji the Heartless was a great game. I really enjoyed it. My Demo Disc moment was Hot Shots Golf, my brother and I used to play that religiously every weekend. :D
There 's basically like this big content war and platforms are demanding content creators produce mass quantity of content which looks great to shareholders and investors. Even if quality content is better in the like long term: many users are trained to just consume and will drop out completely of watching your videos. This leads content towards things like reality TV over the the more informative or well written shows, IMO. TLDR, humans are mostly short-term thinkers and watch quick and instant gratification that leaves them overstimulated and content creators overstressed

FF1 and 2 are short games, can be beaten in 10-15 hours, the story is pretty barebones so it shouldnt take long. I understand the time limitations though, i wanted to suggest dark cloud review but the game takes a while to complete Jade empire was pretty good i played it on the pc.

I have a demo disk memory I'd love someone to try and identify. I don't have many details but what I can remember is a central building with green grass courtyard that was walled in pretty closely, and I think a modernish city as the 2d backdrop far far away. you could go into the building but I don't remember much about it, I think it all may have been a church and graveyard? I don't remember much about the character although I want to say he was almost like the noid (take that with a grain of salt) and could move quickly and jump and such. I believe the game had platforming and enemy attacking type gameplay in a 3d world. I also do not think it was the game Medievil as I have other memories of that one not from demo disks.
As a random person you dont know who enjoys your takes id love to see how you feel about Legend of mana, being a game riding off the snes success of Secrets of Mana. @@jbidd135 yeah anything with a class system or starting customization, i always make new characters over and over again, because what if this class is more fun? etc.etc.

Man, this really makes me want to go back and play ‘Grabbed by the Ghoulies’ on the Original Xbox. Have so many memories playing the first few levels at my grandma’s house whenever we would visit
If it's about pleasing the algorithm, would making it several videos be worthwhile? a [Game] after 10 hrs video focusing on first impressions, a video on character progression and story setup in the midgame, etc, and then conclude with a final review. To be honest, I'd love more than one video for a single game.
We played the first level of ratched and clank on a demo disc like it was a whole game. We managed to get the expensive weapons as well because we played it for such a long time
Even with a longer production time it's bold to project these Elder Scrolls games won't attract as much an audience. Despite multiple releases there's a reason as to why Skyrim is still relevant.
Morrowind's combat system is misunderstood and horribly underrated. It's weird and unintuitive, but once you understand it, it's much more enjoyable than the hit-sponge marathons of Oblivion and Skyrim IMO.
I know exactly what you be saying. When I was a kid I had a plethora of demo disc from Pizza Hut, magazines, mail. I had more demo disc than games. I don’t know if I had any games. All of my ps1 memories are demos. I remember them like they were full games. I played the same demos over and over and over. Never got tired of them.
I have a friend who, when first meeting them in a TeamSpeak call, I broke the ice with because when they were talking with a mutual friend about a game they vaguely remembered from their childhood, wondering if it even existed, or only dreamt it, 'a really bad pacman clone' and humming like 6 notes of the music, I recognized it immediately as being The Incredible Coneman, from the Net Yaroze stuff on those demo discs. Mostly because those 6 notes were like half of the song, it was very repetitive shoutout to Demo Disc 42 (PAL version), for catalyzing a friendship
【Shades Finnish Pirates】I actually watch these videos of yours since you really deive deep into the game, i came out of every video feeling like i know every notch from a game i never have tried (or have tried ages ago) and i must add that you have good sense of humor & you have actually a pleaseant personality 7:16 i'll admit it your a good looking man too, without kissing the arse maybe a friendly encouraging slap but thats it xD nah just putting the truth out there while joking and your teacher & actor backround really makes your channel shine. How about a review for Alice?,it has one of my favorite quotes "when is a croqeut mallet like a combat club,I'll tell you....whenever you want it to be".I had the cheshire cat as a screen saver for ages and had to take it off because my mom came home from work one day while I was out and came into my room tried to turn my bedroom light on and it popped and the cheshire cats big bloodstained grin came up on my screen and scared the absolute shit out of her.
Quick Skyrim review - TES V Skyrim is one of the most immersive roleplaying video games thus far devised by mankind, which largely accounts for its enduring popularity, the game design lends itself towards ample replayability and the modern casual- action combat system enhances immersion in the medieval fantasy world, without detracting from the many accessible RPG elements. The action combat system also lends itself well to the many mods that are available, which can create unique gameplay experiences, the downside of this is that gameplay difficulty and fun factor can be inconsistent, and straying too far from the initial outline of intended gameplay can make controlling your characters actions difficult to the point of becoming tedious, while your character may also become overpowered ( a problem Baldurs Gate 2 often suffers from at higher character levels ). The creative experience of applying various mods to your game is comparable to the appeal of Minecraft and this is something uncommon within PC games that allow mods. The games quests, writing and story complement the incredible worldbuilding, but don't expect to feel intense emotions from the games narrative, or come away from it with new favourite characters. Some gamers have criticized the games departure from the more complex deep RPG systems seen in previous TES titles like Morrowind, and the removal of some features like Spellcrafting and the acrobatics and athletic stats, as well as complaining that the nordic location is not as exotic and interesting as Vwardenfell.
I know that 1 level feeling about Demo disk's, I had a lot of them because I bought gaming magazines to make a 2 hour commute bearable. There were times I had trouble getting through the 1st level or third (in my recollection, which may or not be true, it was often the third level) of the full game because I was already so sick of it.
There was a fighting game I played on a demo disc, it was called Destrega and I remember it being the most unique fighting game I had seen at the time. The battles took place on an open map and your characters used some type of magic.
Speaking demos with one or a few levels, one game I've been hoping to see on Was It Any Good? I'd Brave Fencer Musashi for the PS1. Definitely would be one of those that take longer, but I feel like it's one of those games where everyone had the disc with the demo because of Final Fantasy VIII but not many people owned the game.
I'm not the only one clamoring for a Cloud strife hayes(get it?) interpretation of the original FF7. I thoroughly enjoyed the Chrono Trigger video btw so good!
JOSH I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE DINO CRISIS VIDEO. I literally sent it to all my friends and took the time to type out the quote of my favorite joke of yours there. “That sounds like a really bad system!..” “Heh, it is.. a lot of people have died.” 🤣🤣🤣
I remember playing a strategy RPG named Kartia as a kid, that seems to have dropped off the earth. It was similar to FFT and I remember it had some nice character design.
Everytime a new review comes out I watch it, and then rewatch a previous one. Ive seen them all a few times at this point. Thats how interesting and relaxing they are
I remember every month on the first Saturday I'd go pick up a game magazine from the newsagents. Like holy hell this unlocked deep memories I wish I could return too because some covers went hard
Would love to see reviews of some of the Ultima games. Ultima 8 in particular is the one that I have a lot of good memories of, though I guess Ultima 6 or Ultima 7 are probably the more highly regarded.
After over 30 years, I play Morrowind again at the moment. Took me 2 full days to make it look acceptable in OpenMW on my widescreen monitor - only bug fixes and nicer graphics so it feels like vanilla. But it was worth it, I'm having so much fun as a sorcerer who just joined House Telvanni. I probably wouldn't watch a 4 hour review, my time is better spent ingame.
Funny enough, I loved Skyrim and Morrowind but my experience with oblivion was awful lmao the only things i managed to do before essentially getting softlocked out of my own game was beome a vampire and like half of the thieves guild? cuz i turned in a quest to martin got locked in a dialogue and was stuck in a loop of respawning and dying in this chat so i just quit the game and went back to the superior Morrowind lmao
Morrowind is my favourite game of all time. I have wanted every review of it and I can say the game at least to me and many others is perfect. I can say I’d watch Josh’s review multiple times. If you haven’t played it give it a proper chance. It’ll change your view on gaming.

a [Game] after 10 hrs video focusing on first impressions, a video on character progression and story setup in the midgame, etc, and then conclude with a final review.
The Chrono Trigger video really got me interested, so I'll pick it up if it ever gets ported to Switch!
Mostly because those 6 notes were like half of the song, it was very repetitive
shoutout to Demo Disc 42 (PAL version), for catalyzing a friendship
I would watch a video review series that covered just one longer RPG (like Morrowind) if that's what it takes to satisfy the youtube algorithm.
Speaking of, I loved your Dino Crisis review. Thanks for that.
Nailed review, i just agree like and idiot to a man wiser than me by aeons :S
Oh my god, akuji the heartless! I've been trying to remember what that game was called and I just couldn't, thanks a lot!
9:56 Underrated editing joke
Getting 3-4 hours review videos would be epic
How about a review for Alice?,it has one of my favorite quotes "when is a croqeut mallet like a combat club,I'll tell you....whenever you want it to be".I had the cheshire cat as a screen saver for ages and had to take it off because my mom came home from work one day while I was out and came into my room tried to turn my bedroom light on and it popped and the cheshire cats big bloodstained grin came up on my screen and scared the absolute shit out of her.
The demo (Life of the Party) of Thief 2 was endlessly replayable and enjoyable. Fantastic level!
That was the basically dragon ball z one, wasn't it?
“That sounds like a really bad system!..”
“Heh, it is.. a lot of people have died.”
🤣🤣🤣
I remember playing a strategy RPG named Kartia as a kid, that seems to have dropped off the earth. It was similar to FFT and I remember it had some nice character design.
I remember that game. I think it got overshadowed by other tactics games on the PS1.
Not enough people have played Morrowind? What a grand and intoxicating innocence.
Omg I'd be SO DOWN for a Jade Empire review. I have so many fond memory of this game
Never heard of moro wind, I'd watch a video about it
I didn't know a "Was it any good" review of The Legend of Dragoon was something I wanted until he name dropped it.
jade cocoon. such a blast from the past. Put a lot of hours in that one after school, looking forward to the video if you feel like making it.,
Oh, god, the talk about demo disk reminded me of the german game "Technomage". Pretty neat adventure rpg for its time.
Love the moment in Morrowind where you say "It's morrowing time" before killing god
We're all 100% here for a 4/5 hour JSH Morrowind review
Jade Empire!
I miss that game. It's a damn shame it didn't sell more copies and get sequels.

Awesome transition
a true gentleman and a scholar
Morrowind is my favourite game of all time. I have wanted every review of it and I can say the game at least to me and many others is perfect. I can say I’d watch Josh’s review multiple times. If you haven’t played it give it a proper chance. It’ll change your view on gaming.
Super boring game for some
Would love to see jade cocoon 1 and 2 videos for sure! but i dare say they will take some time to play! :D
Shadowman was and still is one of my favorite games of all time.
I remember playing this with my dad when i was a teen :)
3 old rpgs I want to revisit as an adult, breath of fire 3, wild arms 2, and saga frontier.
Every review from you of any Elder Scrolls game would be a dream come true
