    Good call on Superior Spider-Man. I grew up reading Spider-Man, dropped out of comics, but when I started testing the waters again seeing an old character given a new twist was interesting. Also, amazing call-out for the Marvel Indiana Jones series! Growing up, I loved those books. Like you said, nothing but new Indiana Jones adventures which, to a kid growing up in the 80s, was the best thing ever. And probably still would be today.

    I like seeing other peoples collections. I'm always shown just how personal collecting is, we all collect for our own reasons, and have favorites for no other reasons than we like them. I like your vids.

      Thank so much! I I’m very glad to hear you are enjoying the videos on the channel! I couldn’t agree more with you! Collecting is very personal. I always tell people to collect what they like and not what is worth mucho dinero. If you get what you like, you never lose! I appreciate you watching the video and reaching out to me. Hope to hear from you again soon! Cheers!

    Great vid! Long but enjoyable! I'm happy to say I have alot of these in my collection! And of course there's lots you showed I don't have. Nice copy of Hulk 181... I wish I could find that one.. And New Mutants 87... Can't find that one either. And I like how you said you had a tough time finding Batman 357... Cause I'm finding it hard to find as well.

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your positive comment! I appreciate it... yes sorry for the length of the video... I’m glad you enjoyed it nevertheless. Yeah, with a lot of these books you have to be patient to get a good deal... I waited literally almost 4 years to find a nice deal on 357... finally last fall, I was able to get it in a lot for a good price. Be patient and keep an eye out... eventually 181 and 357 will pop up for you.. thanks for watching and commenting :)

    Ok, the thing about ASM 252 is that it very much is the first appearance of the black suit. What happened with Secret Wars was kinda weird. Heroes and villains all went missing one issue only to return the very next issue with stories of going to Battleworld/The Beyonder. Secret Wars told that story but it began the same month the heroes "returned", so for us at the time, we had to wait until the issues came out in Secret Wars to explain why Spider had a black suit and She Hulk took the Thing's place. Interesting times as a reader were the 80s. Kinda ticks me off finding out years later that Secret Wars was created solely to sell toys. To their credit, they did a bang up job on the story. I had long thought Secret Wars was Marvel's answer to DC's Crisis. But nope...they were trying to cash in on dc's Super Friends toy money instead. To be fair, there was and still is money to be made from licensed characters in toys.

    Cool vid. Defenders 1st appearance is in Marvel Feature 1 I believe. You forgot to mention that Ghost Rider 1 also happens to be the 1st appearance of Son of Satan. Giant Size X-men 1 is also the 1st appearance of Thunderbird. Hulk 182 is technically the 3 appearance of Wolverine but only in cameo. Quick question though. Where did you get the info about Skull The Slayer 1 having a low print run?

      Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Also thanks for that info... yeah, I wasn’t sure about the defender 1st app. Thanks for that. As far as skull.. I don’t remember exactly.. I believe in the first issue Marv Wolfman wrote about his experience creating skull and I believe he mentioned something about not printing too many to test the waters. I would have to check it out again.. I remember reading or hearing about it from somewhere... thanks again

    Damian’s been in the DC animated movies and he died a couple years ago in the comics so I’m sure both of those are big reasons why he’s popular now. He’s also in Supersons with Superman’s son and that’s a popular series out of Rebirth.

    • @Dante19883

    There are actually a few Spectacular Spider Man key issues. Obviously #1... Also 7 and 8 (early Morbius appearance), 27 (1st Frank Miller Daredevil), and 64 (1st Cloak and Dagger). Those are really the only issues worth having.

    Great video, I'd only add that you should do a little research on your "favorite" books so you know more about them. Nice diversity though, some great hidden gems in there (Skull The Slayer #1). You have one of my favorite comic book channels! I have most of the DC stuff you show. I was in my heyday collecting in the 80's and 90's so they were all bought 'new'! I haven't seen you mention anything about graded comics. Do you slab any of your favorite stuff?

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! For your support! I’m so happy to hear that the channel is one of your favorites! The best part of youtube is connecting with the viewers for better or worse! I wish I was a littl older during the 80s and 90s. I feel that would have been an exciting time to be a collector. As for slabbing, to be honest, I don’t care much for it. I prefer the books raw because I like to be able to go back reread them or even simply look through them. One might say you can just look at a digital copy, but it’s not the same for me lol thanks again for watching and commenting!

    Hey Geek with Dante D. Great video, I really enjoyed it. Just wondering if you could possibly help me out with something. Back in the 80s (way back in my childhood lol) I used to read a comic book series that had a boy in a cyber wheel chair who had some cool powers as well as being a genius I believe. He also had at least 2 or 3 other characters on his team per se. I know there was a woman and a man and an android/robot character. I do not believe it was from either DC or Marvel at the time. It just wasn’t their style. And the artwork was out of this world awesome for the 80s. I only got to collect 3 or 4 issues, then we moved to another state and couldn’t find anyone who sold that comic again. And we didn’t have Google back then lol. Sadly I lost track of those comic books and don’t know what I did with them. Just wonder if any of that might ring a bell and sounds familiar to you. It wasn’t Wizkid, it was more serious than that. Do you happen to know the title of the comic book I’m describing? Thanks.

    Ka-Zar is a copy of Tarzan. They did so well with Conan they decided to branch out with other literary characters but DC had the rights to Tarzan, so they brought back a golden age character that was in the same vein (jungle man) but made him so much cooler with the addition of dinosaurs and sabre-tooth cats. He also had a tribe of 'savages' that he fought with/for that had black and white men in it but the black men painted white stripes on themselves and the white guys painted black stripes on themselves because all member of the tribe were equal and didn't want to get into the whole black/white strife America had going in the 70s. Sort of a statement of the Civil Rights movement at the time.

    • @Dante19883

    X-Men #1 cheated to get those sales. There were like 4 or 5 that became one big scene if you lined them up. This was at the height of the speculator boom and it had worked really well with Spider-Man #1 and all its gotta have variants.

    • @Dante19883

    I enjoyed this video and your mish mash of titles and books. Where are your non-Marvel and DC favorite titles? Golden-age? What I like most about your videos is you rarely focus on big keys which are becoming so overrated among the community.

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there! I really appreciated this comment... thank you so much! I’m glad to hear from a person who can appreciate my lack of focus on big keys. I find that many videos on TH-cam focus on those big keys. It’s to the point where every collection video is focusing on the same keys lol As for the golden age.. I can afford any books that I really want for the golden age lol as for non marvel and DC, I don’t have a lot. Some Image, but I have mostly marvel and DC. Spawn is prob my fav. Non DC or marvel title. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I love Anarky !
    Flag Smasher and Anarchy in the MCU are dope, too. Any leftist inspired comic characters are my jam. Pisses me off that they are villains bc let's face it, if these characters were projected into the real world then Batman would be even more of a complete fascist pig of a billionaire that he is, siding with bootlicking cops that protect the state's monopoly on violence and perpetuation of inequality within society. Socialismo o muerte !
