Palermo is amazing, crazy hot and noisy. The food is great, and it has some of the most beautiful architecture and mosaic decoration in the cathedral and the churches, some dating from when Sicily was governed by the Normans. Ther's also some fantastic Baroque architecture and palaces. You seem to have missed all that! And the food, Smoked tuna.........I stayed in the centre for three days a while ago before the crazy finally drove me out to quieter places.
Unfortunately you tend to miss a fair amount when just visiting on a cruise - only so much you can do in a day, haha! Thanks so much for watching - I’ll need to go back again!
Really enjoyed this one, Palermo is very much on my to do list. I love that rugged beauty like you get in Naples as well but it is emotionally overwhelming to be somewhere like that. Take care of yourself and know it’s ok to feel it’s all too much at times. Lots of love to you and as always thank you for sharing your journeys
Thanks for this video. You always show us a real sight of cruising. Seeing it got me thinking the homesickness was a result of your experience in a (to) busy city and than a more then deserted (unsafe feeling) beach. (?) excursion for me if I ever get there I learned from this.
Hey Tamara, I’d say you’re absolutely right - I think all of the uncertainty just made me miss my home comforts, being honest. Thanks so much for watching, as always!
I appreciate the way you trust your instincts. It's always a good idea to get out of there as quickly as you can when you get an uneasy feeling. Thanks for being so real in your videos. Everyone gets homesick sometimes when they're away from their family but most people aren't brave enough to admit it.
Hey Debby, thanks so much for this comment - it’s so appreciated. Yeah, I honestly didn’t feel it much the first few weeks, but this day I hit a bit of a wall and just wanted home for dinner, ha! Thanks for watching!
Glad you got to enjoy your cannoli even if the city didnt totally measure up. Think I would now chose an excursion if I get there, so good to know. Thanks as ever for keeping it real in your videos.
I’d probably recommend an excursion - I think there’s some lovely places round here. That said, if you want a city where you dock centrally and can explore on your own, it’s a great day out. Thanks so much for watching, Lesley!
I am a native New Yorker. My pallet was limited (my family are great cooks) by family meals. But when I was 18 I started working at an Italian restaurant- there I had my first cannoli. I seriously believe the heavens shined down, music played and I had the most amazing confection to date (I’m 59 now 😂). I LOVE cannolis! ~ Inge 😸
Hey Inge! I do agree - it’s a taste that’s amazing, if you buy the right stuff! Sounds like you had a similar experience to me - I was delighted, haha! Thanks so much for watching!!
Palermo is somewhere I've always wanted to visit. As a kid I remember a book where the key characters visited there. Needless to say it looks very different/bigger than what I imagined a bunch of years ago.😂 Yum, cannoli!😊
Ahh, that’s so cool - I never actually read any literature based here - bet that was good actually! The eating at this port was fantastic - I’d have 10 of them next time, haha! Thanks for watching, Tammy!
As a palermitana, man you took the weirdest walk about town 😅 That thing you went to is not a beach, pro tip - Palermo is big enough that we can afford not to bathe that close to the harbor. The actual beach in Palermo is Mondello, which would have been a beautiful stroll in this May morning, but it's nowhere close to the harbor... You prided yourself in not doing any research, but if you dock into a city as big as Palermo and plan to walk on your own, you'd be better off planning where you're going. You'd have had a great day in the sun, and frankly, a better cannolo. Anything in via Maqueda is a turist trap. Hope you have a chance to go back and do it right!
Ha, if this was the tourist trap side, I’d love to see the ‘local’ side - thanks a lot for commenting to let us know this! I really did enjoy my visit here - I’m sure I’ll make it back at some point. Thanks for supporting my channel!
I don't have Instagram, so I don't know what you said there. Palermo is the capital of Sicily. My mom came from a little town outside of Palermo in which I seen pictures which is really beautiful. Sorry you felt uncomfortable in Sicily.
Ahh, I’ve heard the surrounding area is beautiful - I’d probably take an excursion to explore a little if I visit again. Hopefully you can make it out there at some point!

I agree - I love that vibe of place - it’s why I enjoy Naples so much! Thanks for your kind note - means a lot, and thanks for following along Joanne!

The beach you wanted is Mondello Beach... Need to take a bus outside of town. Cheers!
Oh, I’ve just searched for this on google - that looks awesome!!

Thanks for sharing a bit about long-term travel feels; great song pick ~25 minutes in that speaks to this!
Hey, thanks for watching, and I’m always happy to share with you all 😊 I really appreciate you being here - thanks for commenting too!

Thanks Fraser, really interesting. Your cabin looks fab. Like an Iona conservatory.
Thanks, Claire - an absolutely beautiful room!

I'll be in Sicily in 2025. Thanks for the cannoli tip. I can't wait to try one and see how they compare to the ones I can find in NY. 😊
Ooh, you MUST go to this place then stop back and let me know how you think it compares - I’d love to know!!
Don't go in summer, too hot .
There is so much to see in Palermo, you really should have done an organised excursion, well worth the money.
Ahh, I’ve seen a few comments saying this - next time!!

Omg sooo many adverts. Really ruins your great videos
Hey! It shouldn’t be showing you too many - there’s a number of breaks, but it should only be showing you a couple. I’ll look into it - thanks!
