    It's always struck me how well Columbo was written & acted as being so empathetic. He doesn't simply "get in the heads" of the murderers, but actually understands their motives. .... Loved the music on this episode, too.

    Another unforgettable episode. I doubt I have seen this full episode in the last 30 years. But it is still so vivid. Especially the lines at the end between the two of them. Absolutely classic.

      It's true... these late 80s/early 90s episodes were very well done. I remember so many of them even though I haven't seen them in decades.

    I found it interesting that she is not worried about getting caught or going to jail but more worried about what Columbo thinks of her.

  • @walterlv01
    @walterlv01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    What I loved about the Dr. Allenby character was that, unlike most other Columbo villains, she really did seem just like a normal person who snapped. She wasn't an ice queen, a nasty person with a bad temper, a schemer, any of that by nature. And throughout the episode she is nervous and jumpy as most everyday people would be if they committed a horrible crime like that and were trying to hide it.

    The thing I enjoy the most about the Columbo series is that despite everything the killers have done, they are still people, and this episode really shows that hidden aspect. The heart to heart talks between Columbo and the killer is often touching. His last line says it all

      Columbo was one of the only TV detectives to regularly show genuine empathy and kindness to the very people he was investigating, and even admiration for them. I don't know if any other actor could pull it off, but Falk was flawless in showing this.

    Lindsey Crouse is an exquisitely good actress with a clear talent for making such vulnerable female characters, like in House Of Games and here in Columbo, so realistically sympathetic.

    I can't get over how good the writing is on this series. Not like today, when writers use big words that real people wouldn't use, these older shows are easy to follow because the writing seems so real, and the actors give a great performance, also you can hear what they say without background noise or over the top music in an attempt to hype up the drama, like they do today!

    She’s the first killer I almost felt bad for…. Killing is never justified, but I can fully imagine the absolute rage she felt. NOT necessarily just about seeing them cheating, (although that would be really bad) … But because of the insults about her and they were joking about it.. That is absolutely the most cruel of betrayals when combined together. I can’t even imagine.
